  • Here in Britain corned beef is amazing, dunno about american stuff.

  • Back in the days before refrigeration was widespread and affordable, canned corned beef was a storage staple for many people across the Caribbean.

I saute corned beef up in a pan like I would ground beef - with onion, garlic, green/red peppers, corn (if you like), a dash of Worcestershire sauce, & a couple spoons of ketchup (near the end). Spice to taste while cooking & add a little hot pepper or pepper sauce.

I eat it mixed with plain old rice, or mushed in with some mashed potato.

    Yum.

    ;^)

  • that Corn Beef isn't very tasty, however it will make a very good potato soup.

  • I like spam fried real crisp, but the LITE spam is TERRIBLE! there is a huge difference between them. Because you are growing potatoes, make a potato and spam bake, it's pretty good. Always cook spam very thin, and use only a small amount when doing a mixture of foods in one pan. Always use less oil because spam is oily, and you can fry it first too, takes some oil out, and it's better that way. If chopped real fine, add celery and onion like you make tuna, that's ok too.

    Best is with potatoes.

  • @Sheila6325 Thanks Sheila. I didnt think about frying thin with potaotes. I tasted it plain and it wasnt that good but maybe i will give it a try like that. Its so convenient to have on hand that i really would like to be able to rotate it. Thanks again! :-)

  • I have a ton of spam which we are slowly cyclying through the only way i like spam is spam fritters you used to get at the chip shop (in the uk) but i have yet to manage to make one as good as i remember, prehaps since i only ate them as a child my tastes have changed :(

  • For corned beef, mix with potato and stir-fry. Spam, egg product and onion chopped and made into an omelet is fantastic. Another thing for both, sauerkraut, pickles, some mayo and mustard + a slice of onion on rye with whatever cheese you have on hand is a glorious, albeit stinky sammich. No cooking needed. Maybe a touch of oregano and garlic salt to take away from the raw flavor a bit.

  • corned beef is just the method by which its cooked and canned..which makes the corned beef an extra long life storable food.. of at least six years or longer i don't know the brand you show there..hereford but the hormal and libbys ones are excellent and you might like them.. 8)

please use a cookbook for ideas and garnishments because as you say they are a great storable and inexpensive food..but it all comes down to buying and storing what you will eat .i fry spam and get it crispy!

  • its canned so just leave it you'll get 30 years easy..

  • typical americans...

  • @elhae2 HEY! There aren't any cheeseburgers in this video!

  • Great point, Ms Anna. I live with dietary restrictions & millions do as well. Those of us with health problems still cannot eat our "restricted" foods, even if we were starving. People, please don't stockpile it if you cannot eat it!!!!!

  • I LOVE SPAM!

  • Your kids starvn thel eat that like pizza

  • sorry but what IS that? a squeezed hamburger or something? haha

  • SPAM....mmmmmm.

Spam and eggs, spam and smash potatoes, fried spam, fried spam and mix vegys, spam burgers...mmmmm

When you start to go hungry it'll taste better

  • donate it, or feed it to the dog, or use it for barter in a shtf situation.

  • Mail me spam!!! :)

  • How can you not like corned beef, YOUR WEIRD :(

Get a recipe book and look up some, corned beef hash is nice, proably plenty of other recipes you can use too.

Even with some basic herbs and spices it's the king of meats.

    YUMS.

  • You can always use that to barter with. And I can my own meat when its on sale. And the corned beef does make good corned beef hash with lots of potatoes top with over easy eggs.

  • With the corned beef I would (going on a food storage pantry) take dehydrated cabbage leaves and rehydrate them. Combine the corned beef, dehydrated carrots, potatoes, maybe onions, (after re-hydrating all of the veggies of course) and seasoning in a bowl. You can take that mix and stuff the cabbage leaves and bake them probably at about 350 for 20-30? Just long enough to warm it all up. Or for a breakfast you can make a corned beef hash with the corned beef and re-hydrated potatoes and fry it.

  • Donate it to a church or a food bank that feeds the poor.

  • .

Trade it all out for some M1 Carbine ammo.

    .

  • Give it to a food bank!

  • Excellent video. I think a lot of people think about what people eat in hard times then run out and buy that stuff. It takes a while to realize that the point in prepping is to prevent having to eat like that.

  • Spam in homemade split pea soup is really quite good.:)

  • I'm not fond of Corned Beef, but we do have quite a bit of Spam in our storage. Our daughter really likes Spam....she would eat it all, even if the rest of us don't.:) I have a number of canned hams, bacon in the little glass jars, salmon, tuna. Now I want to try canning my own chicken, beef and pork in pint jars. Seems like the best idea to me, so I can control the quality of the meat and salt content.

    Thanks you!

  • I personally like spam. Just cannot eat to much because its so rich. I usually eat it in the top ramin. They also have turkey spam may want to give it a try. Just a side note on canned meat I was going to buy some canned chicken untill I seen the price almost 5 dollars for a small can. I went to sams club and the price was way way way less.

  • Thank you,my family likes it ...

  • Always store what you eat and eat what you store.

We store both the corned beef and spam. We also store the small canned hams.

The only recipe I have for the corned beef is hash. I really like homemade corned beef hash (roast beef too) I make it with rehydrated potato dices.

Slice your spam thin and fry it well (no added oil) and see if you like it that way. Spam in small cubes (fried) is good in potato & split pea soups & chinese fried rice etc.

Frying changes the texture & flavor.

  • How do you cook it? Maybe Im doing something wrong....

  • @MsAnna4040 fry it like bacon. its great.

  • Send on my way my kids love it, lol:) Sorry it didn't work out for you:(

  • I would agree with you not good at all.

  • Never had the corned beef, but if I was hungry enough, Spam is not so bad. Not a regular menu item here, but edible.
