  • whoever sung the title had a great voice.

  • Raggedy just spells terror and horror to me. I can still remember a very bad dream I had involving him 38 years ago

  • @fallingstar888123

While I don't think I ever had a serious nightmare about Rupert and friends, this does seem the stuff of nightmares.

  • CRACKING tune ! "There's a million stories to be told ..." (tee hee). People who make children's stuff deserve a medal every year !

  • I always found this creepy when I was young!

  • if you watched this t.v show and lived in kensington or sloane square it was called " Wupert ' the bear ! heheheh

  • Some of the most unintentionally terrifying puppets ever made.

  • Wow, i dont think ive seen this since the early 70,s. The two characters that i remember well are Raggerty and the old gypsy lady with traditional caravan .

     Good memories, thanks.

  • luved this as akid...remember the flying egg...

  • RAGITY IS QUITE DISTURBING TO BE FAIR

THEYVE MADE HIM NOW MORE CHILD FRIENDLY IN MODERN TIMES

  • I hated missing this show every Wednesday because I had to go to school. No video recorders in those days.

  • Love it

  • Great theme tune. Raggity gave me nightmares.

  • Was this British? It looked cute, If I were a child then and lived in Britian. I would probably love Rupert The Bear. And if they had them, a Rupert The Bear teddy bear.

  • @Sheri451 Yes, British tv show from the early 1970s. The theme is sung by the great Jackie Lee, and it actually made the UK top 20 in early 1971. She also did the theme to White Horses, often voted the greatest childrens tv theme. She took that one into the top 10 in 1968. Nice memories. I feel old!

  • @allanscot1 Thank You for the information.

  • 0:22 and 0:26 still freak me out decades later. Horrifying. Did David Lynch do these credits?

  • Well I've not seen that for 30 odd years. Amazing ! ahah

  • Rupert the greatest bear ever :)

  • The catchiest kids tv theme ever

  • @MyMandaM Indeedy! I used to sing this round the house...Mega catchy! I love Rupert Bear and I got his annuals for Christmas and books, too. I even had a Rupert Bear toy!

  • Jackie Lee - I have mixed emotions about her voice she sang the theme to Rupert, Pipkins and White Horses . I love all three but her inflection and tone evokes too much emotion that I find myself misting up every time I hear her voice. Apart from Karen Carpenter no-one else does that to me.

  • WHAT THE FUCK IS THE THING THAT LOOKS LIKE A RAISIN WITH TWIGS FOR HAIR!!!!!!

It used to scare the pants off me as a kid. Well, I am a big boy now and I will knock him the fuck out if he gives me any more nightmares now that I have seen it again after 35 years. Wanker.

  • @EMJAYFAB That's Raggety....a sort of....twig man.....I always thought he looked like a beetroot.

Actually, that is quite seriously trippy isnt it.

  • Should not have watched this stoned. Creepy as fuck.

I feel like a Victorian being shown John Merrick.

  • i still havent come across this on dvd

  • I remember this show, and i still remember i sang it at bargoed( former mining town in south wales) infant school with a girl named wendy, i got it wrong! i kept singing,..'' robot, robot the bear'' and wendy had to correct me, funny how things like this brings it all back to you, great memories, sadly bargoed infant school is no longer there!

  • @Loverboy19691 That is so funny, in fact I like your lyrics better, Ha ha ha.

    Jackie Lee.

  • @MsJackieLee Thank you jackie, i'm so pleased that i had a reply from you, didnt expect that, i'm honoured!, whenever i hear the rupert song it always brings back memories of my childhood in the 1970's, especially the moment when wendy and i sang it at infant school in south wales and i got it wrong!, when i told my friend nick in salisbury he thought it was funny to. great days, happy times. Andrew Dexter.

  • @Loverboy19691 Hi Andrew, the pleasure is all mine. I must be honest and fess up to forgetting the lyrics of the song myself at inapropiate times.

    Jackie.

  • @MsJackieLee Hello jackie, ive been reading about your career, i was amazed to see that you are on cliff richards cinderella album from 1967, i met him in cardiff in 1988, genuine nice man! i got his autograph!,..would you be kind enough to send me a signed photo of you please?, my email address is ' andrewdexter69@yahoo.com'' i could give you my home address on there, thank you. great to hear from you yet again, really delighted!

  • @Loverboy19691 Yes I agree with you about Cliff, such a nice person. I dont think he has ever changed. I will most certainly see to it that signed photo is sent to you.

    Jackie Lee.

  • Vulpes217 - Raggity

  • @getalife1071 - Cheers mate. I think he was put there just to keep the little buggers in check. ?

  • Vulpes217 - Raggity

  • What was the little freaks name that lived in a tree?

  • @Vulpes217 Yea that raggity scared the shit out of me as a kid.... Beat's me as to why they though it was a good idea to have a psychopath in a pre-school kids tv show..

  • This used to frighten me as a kid. I had nightmares about dismembered animal heads flying towards me

  • @mrspivvy Fuck I had that. Not good.lol

  • earthshaking

  • strange and creepy characters.

  • @mcwolfus Indeed a forerunner for Chucky.

  • takes me back....

  • SHIT!!! This is a good song!!

  • @micallmighty Ha Ha Ha, that is funny, thanks a lot.

    Jackie Lee.

  • I vaguely remember this program and thought it was strange. I remember the theme song, though; and it's probably the only thing I actually did like about the series.

  • Oh my gosh I remember this like it was yesterday!

  • as little 1's, me and me bro use to be scared of raggety root, he still looks a bit odd now

  • man these suckers gave me the creeps. Gladly the 'million stories to be told' weren't.

  • Isn't it funny hearing certain theme tunes bring back so much emotions

  • Blimey - nostalgia overload! I remember having the Rupert Bear theme music on vinyl when I was a nipper. Used to love dancing and singing to this with my Mum. Ha ha!! Hats off to Jackie Lee - great memories.

  • wow I never knew they had rupert in the 70's (I adore the 90's show). Correct me if Im wrong are those 3d images/scans ....wow they were on to something.

  • @mutalix Whole thing was done in stop-motion. Sadly it got dumped...

  • Awww I love Rupert :)

  • Raggerty was the funniest character by far , so bad tempered and naughty .He used to have me chuckling my little 8 year old ass off ! I cant believe some kids were scared of him !

  • Oh coooooll! This song was the first 7" record I owned, and I still have it.

  • Bert the Badger looks frigging scary!

  • @willpurry I didn't like that dog thing int he top right corner, used to have nightmares. And that Raggety thing that looks like a turnip.

  • i used to watch this, loving this

  • wow, been searching for this, many thanks

  • Quite sinister opening titles!

  • @darrowby1972 I agree severed heads floating in mid air wtf

  • this is the best rupert, remember willy wisp and raggety

  • I love this

  • I used to have a Rupert scarf

  • @JohnSardine Where is that scarf now? I was never aware they made Rupert apparel. In fact a fan sent a Rupert doll to me recently and I just love it.

    Cheers,

    Jackie Lee.

  • @MsJackieLee Sadly, the scarf is long gone now. I might keep an eye on Ebay to see if one shows up. Great tune by the way, and "White Horses". You don`t hapen to know the guitar chords to "Rupert" do you ?

  • @JohnSardine Ah the lost scarf, too bad. As to the guitar chords of Rupert, I am sorry I do not have them or never did. Although I do know a good friend and fan who has them so maybe he could let you have them. I will put in a good word for you.

    Cheers,

    Jackie Lee.

  • the rupert in the 90s was better then this one

  • @girlygirl850 Each one to their own I say.

    Jackie Lee.

  • I used to cry when this program finished... how sad is that?

  • @BertyTheFashionQueen Ah, thats so sad, you must have been rather young at the time.

    Bests,

    Jackie Lee.

  • I used to have a pair of rupert trousers!!

  • @thesnowdens Do you still have those Rupert trousers? Maybe if you did you could start a new trend, Ha Ha Ha. Thanks for you comment.

    Cheers,

    Jackie Lee.

  • @MsJackieLee Annoying that ATV couldn't keep the Quad tapes it was on...

  • @alcockell Yes I do agree with you. There are many things that have annoyed me about a lot companies even record companies who record over priceless master tapes, thats another big annoyance.

    Jackie Lee.

  • I do not like Rupert and this is frightening

  • that raggity thing scared me

  • Still gives me the willies, 35 years later.

  • Who remebers Drizzil and Mr GrimNasty from this program?

  • WOW.....that brings back memories

  • So I'm not the only one who was shit-scared of that twig faced thing....

  • It made me laugh that everyone has said Raggerty scared them me too!

  • I grew up with a bendy toy of rupert, He`s up in my loft somewhere, but it was great to hear this theme song again.

  • @MrOnion44 yes i had one of those it had wire inside and a foam on outside ( i still remember the taste of it)

  • I loved that theme tune as a baby (aww how sweet hehe) - it was sung by a lady called Jackie Lee and got to # 14 in the British charts in early 1971 :)

  • good old ragetty

  • great show

  • That thing is scary though!

    Captain Pugwash too!

  • raggerty scared me......he was so twiggy

  • raggaty wuz my fave very naughty

  • Raggerty must, MUST die!

Hated that thing as a kid.

    Loved the show though.

  • 2 people who who scared me 40years ago...Raggerty and Una Stubbs she was in a typhoo ad at the time wearing curlers and she did a back flip over the settee it scared me to death!

  • oh man i wish i was10 again :(

  • Sung by Jackie Lee who also sung the original theme for Pipkins!!

  • This explains my nightmares of little black monsters chasing me.

  • fuckin hell ! i even remember the song !

  • My god! How scary is that? I remember watching that but I don't remember that strange creature thing!

  • omg yeah ...wtf was that? ..freaked me out i'll tell you!!!

  • raggerty! i was fucking terrified of him!

  • good christ that was weird not seeing that for about 39 years... i must of been 1-2 yrs old watching that on my mums fake veneered tellybox, i liked the tune... the heads of animals zoomed in, mental

  • Raggety - the stuff of nightmares....

  • Oh god this is one of the earliest TV shows I can remember!

  • What is that creature?!?

  • oh god the memories of this RUBERT the bear ^_^

  • Oh my! This was cartoon animated a few years back, was it not?

  • I agree 100% Looking at it now those puppets were quite frightening.

  • What is that thing????!!

  • Thankyou, I loved this

  • This programme stopped me bunking off school. I preferred history and geography to watching Rupert. I seem to recall the characters being less like string puppets and more like highly-visible-rope puppets. Eeee, the memories!

  • Not really pixielmon. The crew were the nicest people you could ever meet (ex Thunderbirds). If you like you can go to the national film Theatre in London on the 19th March 08 were they are showing some episodes of Rupert, and afterwards the director will be answering questions.

  • And me the intro scared the hell out of me. Loved the programme though.

  • i used to be scared of rupert. what a sissy

  • So did I! Raggety was evil!

  • was raggety that purple thing with the spikes on his head? terrified of him still HA!

  • Yeah, me too but I wasn't going to admit to that! In the new Rupert and Friends, he is really cute - more like a little elf. I am sure programme makers in the 70's tried their best to scare us kids!

  • Snap! I was a big rupert fan- the books and the like, but the animation/puppets on this version used to scare the crap out of me- especially Raggity.
