Wow, i dont think ive seen this since the early 70,s. The two characters that i remember well are Raggerty and the old gypsy lady with traditional caravan .
Was this British? It looked cute, If I were a child then and lived in Britian. I would probably love Rupert The Bear. And if they had them, a Rupert The Bear teddy bear.
@Sheri451 Yes, British tv show from the early 1970s. The theme is sung by the great Jackie Lee, and it actually made the UK top 20 in early 1971. She also did the theme to White Horses, often voted the greatest childrens tv theme. She took that one into the top 10 in 1968. Nice memories. I feel old!
@MyMandaM Indeedy! I used to sing this round the house...Mega catchy! I love Rupert Bear and I got his annuals for Christmas and books, too. I even had a Rupert Bear toy!
Jackie Lee - I have mixed emotions about her voice she sang the theme to Rupert, Pipkins and White Horses . I love all three but her inflection and tone evokes too much emotion that I find myself misting up every time I hear her voice. Apart from Karen Carpenter no-one else does that to me.
WHAT THE FUCK IS THE THING THAT LOOKS LIKE A RAISIN WITH TWIGS FOR HAIR!!!!!!
It used to scare the pants off me as a kid. Well, I am a big boy now and I will knock him the fuck out if he gives me any more nightmares now that I have seen it again after 35 years. Wanker.
I remember this show, and i still remember i sang it at bargoed( former mining town in south wales) infant school with a girl named wendy, i got it wrong! i kept singing,..'' robot, robot the bear'' and wendy had to correct me, funny how things like this brings it all back to you, great memories, sadly bargoed infant school is no longer there!
@MsJackieLee Thank you jackie, i'm so pleased that i had a reply from you, didnt expect that, i'm honoured!, whenever i hear the rupert song it always brings back memories of my childhood in the 1970's, especially the moment when wendy and i sang it at infant school in south wales and i got it wrong!, when i told my friend nick in salisbury he thought it was funny to. great days, happy times. Andrew Dexter.
@MsJackieLee Hello jackie, ive been reading about your career, i was amazed to see that you are on cliff richards cinderella album from 1967, i met him in cardiff in 1988, genuine nice man! i got his autograph!,..would you be kind enough to send me a signed photo of you please?, my email address is ' andrewdexter69@yahoo.com'' i could give you my home address on there, thank you. great to hear from you yet again, really delighted!
@Loverboy19691 Yes I agree with you about Cliff, such a nice person. I dont think he has ever changed. I will most certainly see to it that signed photo is sent to you.
@Vulpes217 Yea that raggity scared the shit out of me as a kid.... Beat's me as to why they though it was a good idea to have a psychopath in a pre-school kids tv show..
I vaguely remember this program and thought it was strange. I remember the theme song, though; and it's probably the only thing I actually did like about the series.
Blimey - nostalgia overload! I remember having the Rupert Bear theme music on vinyl when I was a nipper. Used to love dancing and singing to this with my Mum. Ha ha!! Hats off to Jackie Lee - great memories.
wow I never knew they had rupert in the 70's (I adore the 90's show). Correct me if Im wrong are those 3d images/scans ....wow they were on to something.
Raggerty was the funniest character by far , so bad tempered and naughty .He used to have me chuckling my little 8 year old ass off ! I cant believe some kids were scared of him !
@MsJackieLee Sadly, the scarf is long gone now. I might keep an eye on Ebay to see if one shows up. Great tune by the way, and "White Horses". You don`t hapen to know the guitar chords to "Rupert" do you ?
@JohnSardine Ah the lost scarf, too bad. As to the guitar chords of Rupert, I am sorry I do not have them or never did. Although I do know a good friend and fan who has them so maybe he could let you have them. I will put in a good word for you.
@alcockell Yes I do agree with you. There are many things that have annoyed me about a lot companies even record companies who record over priceless master tapes, thats another big annoyance.
@MsJackieLee apols for accidental vote down, am replying on my n900. sadly Quad cost a grand a reel back then. Interesting to note that it was only once companies were recording onto Type C tape did full archives get kept, see TOTP repeats. harder for ITV with constant ownership changes
I loved that theme tune as a baby (aww how sweet hehe) - it was sung by a lady called Jackie Lee and got to # 14 in the British charts in early 1971 :)
