  • Nitrous on a diesel...you're already running at least 40psi of boost...why on earth would you add nitrous into the equation

  • @GTI6speed Because it cools the intake charge, adds oxygen and judging by the smoke, it has enough fuel to take care of the additional oxygen. All that, and it goes faster.

  • kind of sounds like he over reved it and on commonrails can cause a fuel pressure drop or turbo's drive and boost pressure wrong before the nitrous. or boot blew off as Diesel4me2 said. but sound and smoke color not right from start and the driver can't stage and spool very good. Quick truck but like a 5 sec R.T. sucks.

  • haha my plow truck with a cummins in it did that no fire tho dont have nitrous but it coughed and weezed for about twenty mins untill i figured out that the air box filled with snow i pulled the air filter and about a 4 lb chunk of ice yea that cost me a rebuild

  • You're right, but I think some flame is passing the exhaust and or the intense heat in the pipe made it pop. Obviously the diesel wasn't tuned up hence all the black smoke.

  • @nuts2chinguard ok I agree with you about the 6.4, and 6.0 powerstrokes but the 7.3 was a damn good motor. However I have a Cummins and I do like it better than the powerstroke but the 7.3 is worlds better than the aluminum and forgien desined D-max .

  • Dieseil being a compression ignition engine in itself, I am surprised that it would hold up to extra pressures from ntirous as I would imagine that would esceed the structural strength of the head! But it was evidently too much for the "Alfred Büchlli" (Our Swiss inventor of the turbocharger in 1924 for the SBB in Swirtzerland)..

  • Intercooler boot probably popped off, & the excess nitrous charge caused the rest of the story. I'll bet his head, & intercooler were in pieces after that.

  • it didnt blow up because it was a dodge ask anybody that really knows dodge the cummins was there best creation..yeah there bodys are junk but nothing will ever beat a cummins..there are many things you have to take into consideration..was it properly installed?..did they get the right system for the engine?it does take cummins about 100K miles to "break in" if you will.but i would take a cummins over a dmax or powerstroke anyday.i aint puttin down dmax or powerstroke..but wouldntyou picthebest?

Go to most of the drags sometime. The Dmax does well, but not that well. Think about why most all have the Cummins. Anything will pop with too much Nitrous, specially a turbo. A lot of things can kill a turbo. Drive pressure, heat, etc... Know what youre talking about before you post your ignorant comments!!

  • Many race setups run both propane and nitrous injection, and usually alcohol as well for cooling.

  • In Diesel Power mag they have shown a truck owned by a guy named maddog who has a ford truck with cummins motor in it which at one time ran 160 psi but he has since put more effecient turbos and is running like 110 or 120 but still makes the same power
