You're right, but I think some flame is passing the exhaust and or the intense heat in the pipe made it pop. Obviously the diesel wasn't tuned up hence all the black smoke.
@nuts2chinguard ok I agree with you about the 6.4, and 6.0 powerstrokes but the 7.3 was a damn good motor. However I have a Cummins and I do like it better than the powerstroke but the 7.3 is worlds better than the aluminum and forgien desined D-max .
Dieseil being a compression ignition engine in itself, I am surprised that it would hold up to extra pressures from ntirous as I would imagine that would esceed the structural strength of the head! But it was evidently too much for the "Alfred Büchlli" (Our Swiss inventor of the turbocharger in 1924 for the SBB in Swirtzerland)..

In Diesel Power mag they have shown a truck owned by a guy named maddog who has a ford truck with cummins motor in it which at one time ran 160 psi but he has since put more effecient turbos and is running like 110 or 120 but still makes the same power
