Having just seen this episode on GSN today, I remembered something that bothered me about this version of Squares (before the 60-second bonus round and H2 eras started), and that was the fact they rarely (if ever) showed what the contestants and celebrities were wearing from the waist down. Seriously, what if Alex was wearing a nice skirt or nice pants? I would have liked to see what they looked like.
THey're only showing the Bergeron version for now, starting with the 1998-99 season. putting Hollywood Squares 1977 in the search box will lead to Parts 1,2,3 of the 10/3/77 daytime episode from the original broadcast with original commercials(cuts off midway through the end-of-show fee plugs)
GSN is bringing back this run of Squares on March 30th, starting with the first aired week. This is the second aired week of shows. Assuming the shows air in order, this episode will air on the week of 4/6-4/10, and the celebs(and Flojo's estate) cleared their appearances.
Flo Jo was a famous track and field athlete who holds world records of the 100 meter and 200 meter races in the 1988 Seoul olympics. She died from asphyxiation, which means blood went into her brain (I think).
Neat how the contestants' names were Alex (my name) and Sean (my twin brother's name).
I think at the beginning of each episode that week, Whoopi came on saying those week's episode were dedicated to Flo Jo's memory. I believe she passed away at the beginning of the week she was on.
Is it me, or has Tom Bergeron hosted nearly everything? I like the guy, I was just wondering.

The week with this episode is rerunning on GSN.
However, GSN skipped the first taped episode of the week...I certainly hope this isn't the skipped one.

It was aired today and I taped it congraulations on winning Alex

Awesome. My fears were for naught. ^^
I echo the congrats!

Thanks so much !! It was the easiest show to do ( really no work from the contestant)

So you won $5K by doing practically nothing.

Golly gee thanks !!

It's on at 3:00 pm as well.

Probably not. An unverified rumor says that when Peter's run was on the schedule in the early part of the decade, it didn't pull in good ratings.

Whoopi Goldberg is a Paul Lynde wannabee
pacmannick 2 years ago
No, in fact those daytime ep.s before 1970 are pretty much known to be erased.
Hondo20132 2 years ago
Oh, and it looks as if the order is taping, as I noticed they aired the first taped ep. first, thus I have no idea when this will air.
This copy didn't happen to come with a slate, did it not, Alex?
Hondo20132 2 years ago
What do you mean a 'slate" You mean of Whoopie's private intro concerning the death of FloJo ( FloJo ) died a few days before this aired
AlexPurnell 2 years ago
I meant a slate as in the clapperboard containing the show#, tape date, and air date. Only studio copies contain this.

I've always found Tom Bergeron funny, he has a natural flow to his hosting and always seems relaxed.
janmarpi 4 years ago 3
Back in 1998 no one knew who Tom Bergeron was but I do remember how relaxed and at ease his style of hosting was
AlexPurnell 4 years ago
The first season w/ Whoopi was good until they started having her face in everyone else's questions and her ego got bigger.
