  • Yeah yeah, they can talk whatever they, these boys are bowling faster than anyone of them, let is be Holding, Roberts, Imran, Willis, THomson, they looked more dangerous because of lack of protection for the batters, no helmets etc.

  • @indianspartacus I totally agree

  • Slight exaggeration by JT in the fastest bowler competition in 78 (on you tube if you look for it) he was the fastest for sure and was clocked at 151 kph Now this may be as he stated not from just out of the hand like they do it now days But he was also clocked in a game using special cameras from out of the hand at 99.9 mph so that in my opinion that would be similar to what you see from Tait and co today I think anyone that thinks he bowled 110 mph + is dreaming Look at baseball 104 - 7mph max

  • Timed @ 99mph over the whole length of the pitch, but did it hit the pitch to slow it down to account for the 10% average loss in speed?

  • @funk192 Thomson didn't bowl many full tosses mate.

  • Brave batsmen in those days

  • grow out of it and just admit it... Jeff Thompson and Michael Holding were much faster than Lee and Akthar... Don't forget the most complete fast bowler, Dennis Lillee

  • @JFK2684 We can't compare, because there were not the same facilities in order to measure their pace... just say that they were the fastest of their respective 'eras'. Some peoples put Harold Larwood at 130mph. Says a lot about 'personal' views.

  • @JFK2684 absolutely, finally someone with some brains.

  • He's just proven to everyone, Jeff Thompson and Michael Holding were much faster than Akthar and Lee.....

  • @JFK2684 Is that proof? Don't think so. He might be right....but that isn't proof

  • @cockywatchman1976 Yes true but is the speed measurer always correct??? we've been proven its wrong in so many occasions. Don't get me wrong, im just replying to what you said..

  • @JFK2684 EXACTLY!, but try telling the pakis that!, they worship the fucking guy!.

the fastest ever Thommo delivery was 161.45, nobodys beaten that!.

  • that was because pitches were quicker at that time

  • The only footage I have seen from that 1980 series is available in that cheap PTV production called "Imran Khan - Aik Khwab Aik Haqeeqat". I still cannot understand how you call that a great one - There was no Roberts and no Holding. Garner was a stock bowler and Imran hardly bowled apart from the last test in which he took 5 for 62. Go for the 1986 series. I can tell you that the Faisabad test was amazing.

  • @kamranwasti I have been looking for the 1988 pak vs windies series for years now. Does anyone out there have any clips of imran´s bowling from those test matches ?

  • @murkygreen Nopes. The only photograph I have seen from that series is one of Abdul Qadir having a fight with someone from the crowd during the last day of the Barbados test with Hafiz Shahid (a medium-pacer who was on that tour) trying to calm him down. This I saw in the Pakistan Cricket Annual that used to be edited by Qamar Ahmad. That particular edition carried a photograph of Shoaib Muhammad on its cover.

  • @kamranwasti Thanks for your reply Kamran. It really is a pity that it is only in word and thought that one can relive the 88 series against west indies. Has anyone seen marshall´s dismissal of Gavaskar in the bicentenary test ? Or that famous delivery which changed a few things forever in the world of one mike gatting ? I miss the cricket of old. It was the real thing. The modern version however is all candy wrappers & bubblegum.

  • no way, thomson wasnt faster than akhtar,...

  • @ustadbadoo How can you say that when he was in his pomp before you were born? Watch the videos, he was lightning.

  • @ustadbadoo sir he was... akhtar was quick but not as quick as holding or thommo.

  • @murkygreen , sir if u dont know then just try searching it , shoaib akhtar was da most dangerous and fastest bowler in cricket , ,,he knocked out many legend players, he was fast and accurate and also swings alot,,!no doubt thomson and holding was great and they are legend, but shoaib akhtar was too faster than both ,!

  • One things though you really think that Jeff was 20 km faster than Akhtar - that is a freakn' joke . No way

  • what name did he spoke of a batsman who can play fast bowler well, whats his name thomson said

  • @MrEddyfreak

He's talking about Arkle - aka Derek Randall. Very good England bastman, also famously eccentric.

From his wiki page: "During the Centenary Test of 1977, Randall scored 174 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, against an Australian attack led by Dennis Lillee. He famously doffed his cap to Lillee, after narrowly evading a savage bouncer, stating "No good hitting me there mate, nothing to damage." "

  • plz upload thomson videos

  • May be you could consider putting in the wickets package?

  • I am also in the hunt of some footage. The 1980 series wasn't all that great. I have some footage - Viv was great but Imran was mostly bowling with spinners and was allowed very few overs (10 wickets in 4 tests). I personally feel the 1986 series and the 1988 one were the best. Imran at 41 wickets in those tests at 15. Miandad played his greatest innings (in my view) at Port-of-Spain (102 when chasing 372 against Marshall and co.). Wasim Akram came of age (6 for 91 and 66 at Faisalabad).

  • @kamranwasti watching all those great placers in 1980 series is great to ME. let us know if you find it

  • @ AIMANALI when you realise the following facts:

Eng vs Aus in Aus (w/o Packer players) in 1978-79 - 5/1 to England

Eng vs Aus in Aus (with Packer players - 3 test series in 1979-80 - 3/0 to Australia

Mike Brearley conveniently chickened out when West Indies were to play England. A year later he returned for Botham's Ashes - it would have been two humiliating defeats for him had Botham and Willis not turned in extraordinary performances against the weakest Australian team to land in England.

  • @kamranwasti so you are like me ....you know this stuff. Cool . well I hope we can get our hands on some Packer matches and post them on youtube. Did you see or have footage of the 1980 Pak vs W.I in pakistan series ? Viv, Clark, Miandad, Imran all at there best.

  • so thommo could of been bowling 170 kmph because the speeed was recoreded afta it went past the batsman??

  • Good ending to the video

  • Imran has written about this match in his second autobiography, All-Round View, as well. He writes that it was played on the Sydney Showgrounds. Actually it was played on a Perth Ground.

WSC West Indies 72 in 26 overs (Imran Khan 4 for 29, Sarfraz Nawaz 3 for 26) lost to WSC World XI 5 for 42 in 15 overs (Andy Robers 2 for 18, Michael Holding 2 for 9) on faster scoring rate.

  • @kamranwasti mmmh so you know. I actually found the score card of that match on the web. Perth, WSC, Rain re adjusted target, WSC bat second etc etc - yes that was the match. how did you get the score card ? . I am also hoping to see the match one day. I am sure it out there in Australia some place.

  • @AIMANALI I first read about them as an 8-year old from the collection of old Cricketer magazines (Pakistani ones) that I had gotten from my aunts and uncles. That was in 1986. Then, as an 11-year old in 1989, I read about the match in "All-Round View" (Imran's second book). And then video came up. You'd probably be able to get hold of the match if you can get to the Channel 9 Archives. Imran had his old open-chested action then.

  • @kamranwasti wait wait ....you telling me that you actually saw the video of that match ? if yes than where did you see it - from Pakistan ? You have to let me know. Yeah know all about Imran evolution and struggle as a fast bowler especially when everyone told him he should be bowling line and length. waiting or your reply. thx

  • @AIMANALI Nopes I never saw the video - however, watching Imran describe that match led me back to where I had originally read about it which was in his book. Imran refers to himself and Sarfraz bowling the West Indians out for a low score - I was able to find the scores of the match in the January 1979 issue of the Cricket (Pakistan - now defunct). The scores should be available on Cricinfo as well. I was born in 1978 - so I couldn't have watched the video then.

  • @kamranwasti I was born a little before that myself. When i was in Pakistan i found a video of a Kerry packer one day match and was wondering how that video was recorded. So I would not be surprised that some of these matches can be found in 'unusual' places. Jan magazine in Pakistan, even that is a little strange cause remember the match in question was a Kerry packer match and not a 'regular' cricket match. These guys were rebels playing in them series.

  • @AIMANALI The only Kerry Packer video you'll find in Pakistan is that of a one-day match involving World XI in which Asif Iqbal (114 not out I guess) and Imran Khan (65 not out) shared a match-winning partnership. You must have watched that one. The Cricketer (Pakistan) covered WSC in detail. While England and the rest were against them, there was a lot of fan-following for WSC in Pakistan. You can understand why England (no issues with South Africa's apartheid) had problems with WSC...

  • @kamranwasti Very interesting. Do you have copies of that magazine ? Actually that was not the match. It was one Aust vs W.I. Australia batted second. Viv was out on like 4 (mis hooking). Lillee gets annoyed with big Bird. All very exciting. So you see I would not be surprised there are a lot more matches from Packer in Pakistan...Anyway where can i get that magazine (second hand of course).

    Thx

  • @kamranwasti I have this match, but its too long to upload.

  • Thommo at his quickest around the mid 70's has not been replicated,The steepling bounce he got off a full length was amazing and petrifying. No doubt he bowled like the wind during his pomp.Akhtar/lee were also very very fast but Thommo had the edge pace-wise with his power and leverage from that unique action. Many times bails flew most of the way to the boundary as well as many many broken bones.Combine the fact that he was extremely hard to pick up and no helmets...

  • @Aimanali the complete lecture by Imran Khan is on our channel. The entire panel discussion with Finn, Onions, Thomson et al was too long to post on YouTube - so we posted selected highlights, like this one (above). Hope you enjoy them!

  • @LordsCricketGround I LOVED it thx a million. when these guys are involved nothing is too long - lol Please post all of it. thx

  • @LordsCricketGround is there a recording of the complete session - I only saw parts of the lecture. ? Thx

  • @LordsCricketGround

Is there any way I can get the complete discussion? I wouldn't even mind paying.

  • where is the complete interview

  • best all rounder in cricket history,an inspirational leader, now is trying hard to eradicate the crooks in pakistan, and he will change i hv faith in him.

  • LOL thomo thinks he still is fastest bowler....sorry dear shoaib, lee, waqar, tait all were faster atleast 10mph than him

  • @BaraLauraKhara with due respect but listen to what was being said. the speed guns are different now ...that is a known fact. Plus people like Riche Benud who did not play Akhtar OR thommo and Holding STILL says that Holding and Thommo were quicker

  • he should be in commentary box instead of battling the jaahils in pakistan politics

  • imran always has funny stories JUST LOVE THE GUY
