That seems really useful mate. Have you tried recording into GarageBand via this method? If so how did you find it? My own experience (without using an external keyboard is that it gets quite laggy). I'd be interested to know if you've tried this, cheers
Thanks for posting this video. I've been looking for confirmation if this type of setup would work -- Do you have any details on the type of USB/MIDI Cable your are using? Are you connecting through a powered USB hub as well?
@awerhane I'm using a printer USB cable (the one with the square end) into the back of the FP-5 (which is the MIDI port) straight into the iPad's USB camera connector kit. Worked perfectly - no hub, no computer.
@zcott Thanks for the reply -- I tried a similar cable with my Yamaha S08, but I had no luck. I needed to install Yamaha drivers on my Mac when I connected my keyboard to the Mac, so maybe my keyboard doesn't work with "generic MIDI" drivers. My next test will be to try a USB to MIDI cable.... Thanks again!
@awerhane I just checked and saw the Yamaha S08 is one of the keyboards with the old style multi-prong MIDI connector - the midi in/out/thru. Get yourself an M-Audio Uno, it's a driverless midi connector with USB on one end and midi connectors on the other end. Good luck!
Yes, this is a first generation iPad. I haven't tested it with the iPad 2 yet but I'll try it soon and post back.

is this with an iPad of the first generation? I tried it with an iPad 2 and it doesn't work :-(
Did you have to change anything in the settings of the keyboard or of Garageband?

Do you think that Camera conection kit + MIDI USB cable + roland keyboard will work?

@rodrigomg25 Yes, that's how I set this up.

@ytgibbo I haven't had any trouble with lag. Admittedly I haven't done anything really precise with it yet but I haven't encountered any issues.
