  • What Kind of tv?

  • Hey is it possible to use a one time only write type of rom? one that you cannot erase and solder it in the super nintendo game cartridge pcb?

  • Great job man.

  • You're the BEST MAN! I love that mod! I think I can provably load EMULATORS onto the almost any cartridge! HEHEHEEH! THANKS ..

I m ebaying for the EPROM Programer as you read this!

  • wow thats really cool

  • Also another question, did you just solder the ZIF socket where the old EPROM chip was? It that's how easy it is?

  • Can that take Flash EPROMs too or just EPROMs?

  • I like your monitor.

  • hi i have nigel mansell f1 challenge and a mate of mine would like a game called

    BS Kaizou Choujin Shubibinman Zero

i have programmed the eprom but need to rewire the cart for the eprom please help me thanks?

  • Great hack, do you know of any resources with information on this hack beyond the Nintendoallstars link provided in the description of the video?

  • I NEED this

  • your only 15 years late with this release.

  • Awesome job there. Could you make another video going from a start to finished product. There are lots of small details that you don't show. What model eprom did you use? Where did you get that snes extender cart? Did you have to remove the header on the rom file? Did you have to split the rom into 2 parts? How did you connect the ZIF to the cart chip board? This is very cool but you got to show more information so that someone else can do it too. Thanks!

  • @Educationscience

Thanks for the comment, a "making of" video is a good suggestion and I ought to have done that if I had done a bit more planning. I'm partially getting out of video games so I might not have many new videos, and I'm unlikely to make another SNES cart. I do have plenty of parts left over for another, so if I have some time I could certainly try again.

  • hey nice hack you should check out my review of the ea sports games for genesis

  • Hey man, it's very nice, but.... how do you load the games on the chip?

  • @PanterAmetal100

You have to buy an EPROM burner which hooks up to your PC - I am using a Willem 3.0 (or something) - and this comes with a software which writes your downloaded ROM onto the chip, as long as you have everything connected and set up properly.

  • Can I take the EPROM chip from the cart, put a new game on it, and then re solder the chip instead of buying a new EPROM chip?

I know you have to erase them.

  • @thatguyontheright1 It's a ROM chip inside the cart, not PROM, so it cannot be erased or rewritten. The part that makes me feel bad is that it's hard to get EPROMs now, and soldering them in for clean cart conversions instead of using sockets makes another EPROM gone forever (kind of).

  • @iatneH Don't EEPROMs work?

  • hey, i wanted to buy an actual clock tower cartridge, and modify the rom so that it is the english version. is there a way of doing this without opening the cartridge/switching eprom or other parts? i'm really new to all of this.

  • @andrewdaniele

I don't think so. Most if not all of these translated carts are done in this same way, but with the EPROM soldered in so that it doesn't stick out the back. I've seen translated carts on eBay so you might want to see if somebody has or can do the work for you.

  • Awesome little glitch you found! I just am a little worried about your snes, it's Turning yellow.

  • its a good work that you ve done there, i ve looked for years for a solution, since i discovered the powerpak, i solved all, its simply awesome

  • Nice video mate.

  • Can you give me the link (via PM if you want) where you bought the EPROM programmer and the chips? I really want to make a few cartridges of games there were not translated to my language.

    Thank you.

  • were can I buy the Eprom chips, Eprom Programers and the sockets?

  • @killdoser666

The EPROMs and programmer just came from eBay. The regular sockets and my first few ZIF sockets came from a local electronics shop. Later on I bought ZIF sockets from eBay since it was cheaper.

Keep in mind that it's nearly impossible to find brand new EPROMs. Anything you find will most likely be pulled from some other old hardware, but it's no big deal.

  • @killdoser666

You might also want to get an EPROM eraser (mine also came from eBay). I left a few burned EPROMs out on my windowsill for a few days but the sunlight was not strong enough to erase them.

  • @iatneH allright cool thanks for the help

  • 1:18 At first, I thought that said Christopher Walken.

  • nice video. I'm working on a similar cartridge for the NES but I think I will use regular sockets and EEPROMs

  • i dunno a lot about this stuff so i hope i don't get flamed but.... I wonder if u could mod an old cart like this but instead of having to swap out chips, u could have a large storage unit that holds hundreds of snes roms that u could pick n play from a start menu....

  • @andresq4545 that is an awesome idea.

  • what does this hack do exactly?

  • i dont want to bother, but can i ask you which type of eproms have I to use for make one like this for me. I have heard about "Hi-rom, Lo-rom" carts, which one is recomanded to use ? Thanks in advance.

  • I cannot remember the manufacturer, but the model number is 27C080. This is 8Mbits per chip, and there are different models with varying read latencies. I think you should be able to use these for both HiROM and LoROM games, that should be a memory addressing feature of the donor cart itself.

  • Nice. commodore screen. that one has really nice quality video

  • Thanks, I really liked the 1702. Unfortunately I moved recently and could not keep it. It will be missed!

  • Nice..

  • crazy fetish stuff :D

  • Oh my god this is so cool!

This would be excellent for running coding projects on a real SNES. Do you code demos for the SNES?

  • It would be better to just go to Tototek and get a Super Flash Cart 64Mb w/programmer for like $95. You also need the CIC chip ($5), T Connector ($10) for the US SNES. Make sure you have a USB cable and a parallel port cable. You can store up to 4 games on there at once, big 48Mb games like Tales of Phantasia and it has battery save for 4 games. Can't go wrong with this. I am getting one soon.

  • I agree, but I think around the time I was doing this, Tototek did not have any stock on their SNES cards, just my luck. It has been a while since I checked but I think I can just yank the CIC chip from any one of these carts I busted up.

  • @Disposition021 I was just wondering why you need a parallel port cable with that system. I want to buy one as well so I can play TOP and Star Ocean. So, why do you need one when you have USB? I just need a good explanation on how that thing works. Thanks

  • # Need EPP printer port to flash the cart.

    # Using the cable same as GB Xchanger to connect to computer,***Need both parallel cable + USB A to B cable

  • Yo great work! What eeprom programmer are you using? I was going to use my AVRISP MKii but I don't think they use atmel eeproms.

  • Hmm I'm not exactly sure, and I packed it up somewhere and cannot find it anymore. It is definitely a Willem, but I cannot remember if it is a PCB v.3 or something newer. Probably a v.3.

  • Thanks man. I'm going to get one soon.

  • This is got to be bitch for battery pack games.

  • Actually, not really. As long as you choose a donor cart with its own battery backup (Donkey Kong Country is a good one), you can build a cart that can play and save battery backup games.

  • i would not say this is useless. it is a good project to learn about electronics and the dirt basics of computers. flashing roms is an art in and of itself. if you like gaming and electronics give these projects a go.

plus this may be the only way to restore and relive rare abandonware.

  • It's not that hard to build a programmer yourself with just some cheap components and a LPT or COM cable. Software for this is on the net (google).

I'm going to try to make this for the NES. Putting mario forever on there :).

  • I wish EPROM Programmers were not so expensive...

  • 60$? really expensive..........

  • I heard WildGuns 8D

  • also, I do have a crazy fetish for playing on the original hardware.. plus i gotta finish up my RPG collection lol

its no fun playing it on wii... not even a challenge to get it working :(

  • thats wicked. im honstly gonna do something like this this summer... i was gonna do it last summer but gave up lol

  • owned!

  • Ur smart to figur this out i could never do this the onky thing iv dun is burn dreamcast games to cd-r

  • awesome :)
