@Hammerlit In my opinion (and remember that this is my opinion) Sedykh lands earlier after all three of his single-support phases and therefore has longer double-support phases. I Also think Sedykh overall have better form and a better position before using his right side to give force into the hammer when starting his double-support phase. He is also in perfect balance.
This is all based on his 5th round throw from ECH Stuttgart 1986 of course. All of his throws are obviously not perfect.
@Hammerlit It's identical to the fact that both are extremely good. I just think that Sedykh had a little better technique and that your father was slightly stronger, thus throwing almost as far.
@Hammerlit No, unfortuneately I haven't seen any of them :( But I would love too. I've just done some research and studied hammer technique for a while. As I throw hammer myself, I love to study and compare the two greatest hammer throwers of all time :) That's what I like about hammer, you can practise technique in your head when not training, just by studying throwers on youtube and stuff like that :)
I was there when he threw this, I thought there was something wrong with the scoreboard, i thought Sedykh had thrown 76m a good throw then, almost world class, then the penny dropped ! and then Litvinov threw 85m, wow, but i never thought that i would not see anyone throw farther ! that's 26 years ago!
Barkie (sorry, I can't quite remember your user name),
Compare this Litvinov throw to Sedyikh. Notice, despite my man's comparatively short and slender frame (this was when he was only 23; four years after he beat me by 40 feet; he had the world junior record (19 or younger) at the time at around 230 feet) [to be continued . . .]
[dylanlives comment continued] But, I have to marvel at your man Sedyikh too. Wow! Does he still have the WR? AT this 1986 throw mark? I think someone took it away on a fluke throw, didn't they?
I haven't seen this clip since I was in college in 1998! Litvinov is in my opinion the greatest of all time. I wish I had this footage when I still competed...inspiring!
i love his speed

The World record is 86.74 thrown in European Champs 1986 if I am not mistaken. Held by Sedykh.

I love how the slow motion is faster than the full speed videos of the majority of throwers.

haha yeah my full speed is just abit faster than his slow motion one. (I belive it's 1/2) - and I have a lighter hammer aswell :(
