love the black crowes so much saw them play with oasis best concert or maybe the time with tom petty actually everytime was the besttime what am i saying lmao
I was hooked and landed after the summer of 1990 when I picked up my first cassette of the crowes...was a big fan through the decade and then came LIONS and a few years back my wife bought me the double cd live from the filmore for Christmas. Good life...Great wife.
@dalyryg I know what you mean man. I watch this -- quite possibly the greatest musical performance in late night TV history -- all the time.
The thing about this performance is, this band could've played something off of Amorica in order to promote that album at the time. But no, they come out on national TV and just absolutely rip this cover to pieces.
Marc Ford's tone at 2:18 is absolutely earth-shattering. Freak 'n' roll.
@trav4freedom I think they were having issues with the new material ("Amorica" came out of the whole "Tall" project that didn't pan out), which is why I'm assuming they chose to do a cover.
The Crowes are doing this song occasionally on their current tour ... just saw them last week, and they blew the roof off the place. I'm the biggest Marc Ford fan on the planet, still follow him with the Neptune Blues Club ... and Luther Dickinson is flat-out amazing, and is tailor-made for the Crowes. Incredible. F*cking. Band. See them on this tour if you can, you won't see any better.
Thanks for sharing the video. I've had that version on a CD years, but I never saw the video until now. Joe Cocker does a killer version of this one, but I personally like the Crowes groove a tad better. I think this version of it is about the best take on it yet. Rock on!
Definately this is horrible.... Thanks God for traffic was created that amazing song, but the best version belongs to GrandFunk Railroad.... I am sure about it!!!! listen to this version and compare..... this video is a big shit.
@PAULLONDEN First of all genius the word is Cacophony... And if you can't hear the separation of sounds, you need a better stereo, however more likely the case is you need a better ear. This is the Black F'n Crowes. The sounds they were throwing down was just to powerful for you to handle my brotha... That is just that... You either get it or you don't... And evidently you do not!
I stopped a Black Crowes concert with my dancing. Chris Robinson stopped the band in the middle of Jealous Again and told security to let me dance. "Let her dance" is a phrase I will never forget. This band is amazing. Good soul music.
i like the original, don't get me wrong...but damn...chris makes this song killer...he just...has such virtuosity with his voice....he makes this great song even better...i love this version....

These dudes lost a great chance ,to be imagewise next to The Stones,
After their great first album ,they became bored scruffy looking hippies.
PAULLONDEN 1 year ago
@PAULLONDEN That was the problem with their first album, too Stonesy. "Southern Harmony" and "Amorica" are what the Black Crowes are.
ovneb 1 year ago
@ovneb
That's a funny comment.."problem...;]
Oh whell...if Southern rock is your thing, they fill that niche nicely.
I think ,their sound here was becoming one big cacaphony,no separation at all.
I've heard this kinda stuff done a thousend times better.
Clapton, Skynyrd ,Allman Bros.Stones Exile.
PAULLONDEN 1 year ago
@PAULLONDEN All those bands you mentioned sound completely different from eachother. And the only one that really resembles southern rock is Skynyrd.
I've always seens them as more of a "Humble Pie"-esque band mixed with Stones.
Image-wise next to Stones? Don't really know what you mean. But everything they did on the first album was done before. It's a good album though.
Just let the music speak for itself.
ovneb 1 year ago
