Pulling the flywheel was a learning experience for me, only a home made puller would work properly. the crankshaft seal is obsolete, but a guy can find them at engine shows (Portland, Indiana) Mine is on a little wheat sowing tractor built in the 1940's. I also bought a manual at a show that consisted of several sheets of copied paper.
The best way is to dismantle it and free off. Here's a short cut. Set the piston to tdc on compresson stroke and with a soft mallet gently tap the valve closed, having squirted some oil onto the valve stem. Once the valve is closed rotate the engine until the valve opens and repeat the first step. 9 times out of ten this frees the valve. As always the best way is the long way. Remove valve and regrind the seat and re gap if necessary.
oh right thanks. i have been told other ways like soaking it in diesel and getting a valve spring compressor to remove it. but when you say tap the valve closed you do mean to tap the valve head dont you? will any kind of oil work?
Good penetrating oil let it soak. take the head off and tap lighty with hammer hitting a peice of wood between the valve and hammer. It should work loose.
no if your not cutting grass or somthing thats make dust come in its ok anyways its an bug engine it will take sand to kill it dust is hardly any harm
how did u free up the exhaust valve because i am doing the same rebuild on mine and it is exactly like mine. its not stuck open but its not tightened down all the way. thank you
Hi, I find the engines at farm auctions, by word of mouth, and looking around old buildings (with permission). The engines are getting harder to find as the old-timers die off and buildings are torn down. John

Only the fan shroud is missing and the oil bath air cleaner, these engines were rated about 7 hp.
Mine does not have the gear reduction unit.
She runs great! Thank you for going to the trouble to post the video.

Hi, I have the shroud and aircleaner off from when I tinkered with the engine to get it running.

do you have more of the parts for it? seems like there are some shrouds and stuff missing, it sounds like it's running top condition tho :)

The motor is complete but I do have the flywheel shroud removed from working on the engine. JS

your valve is bent
z50hondaguy 3 years ago
The valve is not bent. Just a minor carb tune up is needed from what i hear. If it was a valve it would pop.
