Subaru Forester MY 2009 Engine startup to idle

The 2.5 engine sounds very bad when cold, you can't hear it from inside the car but outside it sounds like crap until it warms up. I hate the car more with every day we own it.

I have owned the car for a year now and I'm pretty happy with it. Taken it to all kinds of off-road terrains and it never "betrayed" me. As you said, the engine is pretty loud until it warms up, but after that it's one of the quietest engines I've ever known.

But 900 r/min is still too high isnt it? i have about 600 r/min at idle in my 2.0 N/A MY09.

i usually wait for the blue light to come off before driving the car. i have a 2010 xt. the blue light means your engine is warming up. it usually takes +/- 30 sec before it goes off.

why ur check engine light is on ?

why is your engine lite on? do you wait till the blue light fades before driving the car?

The engine temp light comes on as soon as you turn on the engine. I don't necessarily wait for the light to come off before driving.

@pharmd718 I think it shows engine temperature. It stays on until engine "warms" up.

@pharmd718 Actually you should wait until the light goes off, otherwise you're wearing off the engine excessively because it will be working @ high rev. with little lubrication and at not optimal engine temperature.

Gabrielnov14. Don't wait until the light goes out. As soon as you start the car the lubrication is good. All multigrade oils today can handle a cold engine. Most engine wear takes place while the engine is cold. If you drive gently around 2000 to 2500 rpm you will not damage your car.
