Let's face it: Medvedev does act independently on many issues concerning Russia, but the West still has this idea of him as a puppet due to media portrayal.

Putin, people in the West are afraid of him, hence they don't like him despite the fact he's one of the best leaders we've ever had. Not to mention the controversy if he runs in 2012.

I am confident Lavrov can steer the country in the positive direction Putin and Medvedev did. I'd be happy to have this man as president.

It seems all he talks about is some idealistic stuff, when compared to Putin or Lavrov who seems to be more pragmatic, it just feels like Medvedev is kinda weak and wanting to sellout Russian sovereignty just like what Gorbachev did, is there really a huge split between Medvedev and Putin?
