I guess my point was that the rich should be taxed at a higher rate than the poor, which Warren Buffet himself admitted regarding his paying 15% tax because of all his profit being from the stock market. So, the system needs to be changed a bit and I'm not quite talking about communism that I know of. For example, in Germany the people pay 50% in tax and they have the highest rated cities in the world (3 out of the top 10). That must count for something. U.S. cities didn't make that list.

Something to think about people: there are over 1000 billionaires in this country. If each of them gave 1,000th of their income ($1 million) and that was in turn redistributed to the population of this country (350 million people) each person would have an instant fortune of $2.86 million. To put that in perspective, that's like a person who makes $25,000 a year giving $25. So, the problem with poverty in this country is lack of appropriate taxation of the rich and the mega rich.
I have to disagree with your math. If each of the billionaires did give $1 million and then distributed to the 350 million people it would not be $2.86 million per, but instead it would be $2.86 per. What you fail to recognize is that these "billionaires" provide jobs and incomes for millions of people. Consider the amount of jobs lost if guys like Bill Gates or Warren Buffett cashed in their billions of dollars and tried to re-distribute the wealth. The money would run out quickly.

I guess my point was that the rich should be taxed at a higher rate than the poor, which Warren Buffet himself admitted regarding his paying 15% tax because of all his profit being from the stock market. So, the system needs to be changed a bit and I'm not quite talking about communism that I know of. For example, in Germany the people pay 50% in tax and they have the highest rated cities in the world (3 out of the top 10). That must count for something. U.S. cities didn't make that list.

If each of them gave 1,000th of their income ($1 million) and that was in turn redistributed to the population of this country (350 million people) each person would have an instant fortune of $2.86 million. To put that in perspective, that's like a person who makes $25,000 a year giving $25. So, the problem with poverty in this country is lack of appropriate taxation of the rich and the mega rich.

I have to disagree with your math. If each of the billionaires did give $1 million and then distributed to the 350 million people it would not be $2.86 million per, but instead it would be $2.86 per. What you fail to recognize is that these "billionaires" provide jobs and incomes for millions of people. Consider the amount of jobs lost if guys like Bill Gates or Warren Buffett cashed in their billions of dollars and tried to re-distribute the wealth. The money would run out quickly.

well if it works well then that's good, but Clinton presided over an era of unprecedented prosperity while eliminating the deficit, something that hadn't been done in 50 years even by Reagan! But that is true, Carter wasn't a very good president, I'd take Reagan over him.

Well considering the fact that the poorest states in the union are republican states, the highest incarceration rates are in republican states, the most death penalties are in republican states, the two were economies in american history were republicans-(herbert hoover, george bush) The largest act of terrorism occured on a republicans watch. Newt is fighting ghosts of the past, when problems were framed in black and white terms. Now, America is more self aware, issues no longer appear black and white, but more complex and inter-connected. People on both sides of the politics try to use that old frame to solve todays problems but end up frustrated and scared when it doesn't work. Newt is one. Don't believe me?
