The Japanese did, They didn't give allowance on American cars, but the Americans allowed Japanese cars into the programme, and I seem to remember that more than 50% of the new cars sold was manufactured outside the U.S., or at least foreign brands produced in the U.S. The Americans should save themselves and bring as much cash into U.S. econ. as possible and let this programme stimulate buying American cars with lower emmision.

I guess that as with UK scrappage the majority of cars traded in under cash for clunkers will have been fit for scrap. In the UK scrappage got our factories back to full production at a time when the market was tanking.

That is a real shame, what a lovely car to have destroyed. If I worked in that garage I would buy it and sell it on. They tried a similar scheme in the UK to help out Vauxhall and Ford because their overpriced new cars didn't sell. It was a total failure in the UK. No requirement to disable the engine.

I dont understand this? I had a 2003 XJ8 and was getting 24mpg highway and about 20mpg city. This car is not a clunker. Bet that civic behind it only gets 30mpg highway and thats the kind of vehicle this Jag is being traded for. 6mpg more vs a Jaguar.......... NO!!
