МОЛОДЕЦ ! Хороший ролик и байк, красивые места, мне очень понравилось, только надо было еще сюда музыку, чтоб не слушать как трещотка шумит и порыв ветра и учащенное дыхание. А в остальном все очень хорошо.
@instinctdonniedarko both. I like this kind of bike because it is faster, more comfortable, and thus it makes much more marvellous miles. when i rode upright I had always 2 dumb fingers, often suffered back and neck pain
@LibertaerUeberAlles yes maybe. I am trying it just in these days. (last year I laid me down even more, because I liked the speed on flat, always more than 40 km/h, but I suspect this is a bit uneffective on climbs. So now I am trying to ride more upright... (I have a test climb to do. Once I'll get used to the new position I will do it measuring the time)

Does anyone here know if recumbents are a bit unstable. Ive just built my first one and I can ride it but its very twitchy. I cant ride it hands free, it instantly goes to full lock. Can any bents be ridden hands off? Do I need more rake at the forks? Im an expierienced cyclist and unicyclist. You can see a vid of my machine on here.
Oh ye, that Slyway looks the bollocks, can just the frame be bought on its own? Is there a dealer in UK?
It's all in the design, the good bents are stable once you know how to ride them. Never tried riding them hands off, well except when I had a trike but that's just cheating.
Regarding seat angle, I prefer a more upright seat because it helps on the hills and I like to climb hills, plus I find it a bit more comfortable. Granted you gain a bit of drag on the flats but it'll still be more aerodynamic than an upright.
Oh and about UK dealers, I don't know about Slyways specifically but it'd be worth giving Kevin at D-Tek ( Cambridgeshire ) a call, he has loads of stuff in stock and has endless knowledge about all things bent. Plus he's a top bloke and quite a character!
That sounds like 'wheel flop' caused by too much rake and/or too much trail (the distance between the line extended through the steering axis to intersect the ground and the point on the ground vertically below the front axle.) As the wheel goes slightly to one side, the C of G of the steering rapidly pulls it further over. A smaller front wheel and less rake are likely to be most effective in correcting this.
@treeefrogUK ... and smaller (circumference) front wheel = increased rolling resistance. This machine is designed for performance. And it beats road bicycles when going uphill. There is a reason for using both (front/ rear) 700 cc wheels.
I am very surprise by your pedalling cadence, I timed and found about 60 RPM that is very slow for a recumbent for climbing. I climb at 80-85 RPM on my Optima Baron except in very slopy part > 10%. On recumbent you have to maintain a high cadence to climb well, so I am surprised since you seem to do well
I think now my cadence is higher. the movie had been shot in 2007. Last year on the same route it took me more than half an hour less to ride the same 55 km tour and I think I rode at an higher cadence.
Ha ok, a high cadence is really what kick ass whne climbing with a recumbent, but be able to maintain a cadence above 85RPM requires traing since it is not a natural way to pedal, and the heart rate goes higher
Slyway bikes are very well enginereed bike, But the seat is too high in my view. I don't like to seat too high on a bent, that's why I ride a Low racer
You do not like to seat too high because you do not feel safe?
I think low racer are a little disatvantaged on climbs because they usually feature a very low seat angle so that when you need to push hard you slide backwards
Humm, I can climb pretty well on the Baron, I am not convinced by this theory that a more closed body position is better for climbing. I climb not in a pushing mode, but more on a push/pull mode then I am not pushed in the seat because both action self-balance.
I do climb the same way as yours, but it looks like pulling is not as strong as pushing so the two forces are not balanced. I can adjust the seat to a very laid down position on slyway. It's a blast on flats but when a climb begins I start sliding up and down the seat. Maybe this is due to the seat shape too.
The shape of the seat definitely matters, it is true that on the Baron I push against the shoulders because the seat as a pronouced bent shape agaisnt which I can block my shoulders. But when you spin fast enough this problem is not that important. Also in a more reclined position you can pull harder than in a more closed position and then balance your push on the other leg. Anyway on bents, people achieve similar results using different bikes and techniques, so it would be mistake to generalize
if you want to ride on dolomites and have a recumbent you are welcome, (you would be much more welcome if you brought your guitar and your teeth too...)
Hehe I must be the world's only Heavy Metal recumbent rider! I have a Bacchetta Corsa myself and it climbs as well as any upright bike I've ridden. However I don't think I'll try playing guitar with my teeth during a 50mph descent!

Wouldn't a more upright seating position be better for mountain riding? -- >45- degrees?

bellissimo video!
Visto che siete italiani mi sapete dire dove posso trovare una recumbent che non costi un'occhio della testa, magari usata?
