  • @WAH10ler tha japanese space agency, jaxa, sent a mission, Hayabusa, to a passing asteroid, itokawa. Once landed on itokawa, it probably took dust samples, collected them in a little pod, then left the asteroid to come back to earth. THeyre not sure whether they got a sample because of technical difficulties on the asteroid. What you see here is the spacecraft carrying the pod with the sample in it coming back into the earth's athmosphere and burning up. The red dot that flies on is the pod
