Parroting Rothbard's FairTax is a 'permission to live' tax" is ridiculous! You can read an excellent rebuttal of Vance's, in detail, at: hellomichigan {daht} blogspot {daht} com/2010/06/can-tax-be-fair {daht} html - a bastion-blog of shoddy, anti-FairTax diatribes amidst other pretty good stuff!
@zeo285 must be those dern gubmint schools - go on and check out the hellomichigan FAIR TAX DEBATE - the Comments should illuminate those who think the FairTax is bad . . it's what we need!
Under the fairtax what about imported good? like from other countries? Couse it seem clear that if we in the US put in the fair tax, that all imported goods are just going to go up in price by 23%.
I've read the Fairtax book and theres no anserw I found in there. I hope you can help
*ALL* taxes are evil; that is true or a truism... But if you gotta tax, at least use taxation to discourage _consumption and waste_ rather than _production and wealth_
Now, give me an equal shot at your soapbox and we'll take the issues apart one at a time. Either man is free to call *bull* when the other is clearly shoveling.
@ctyankeestxvi Of course. Now were you going to comment more, message me or make a video? I would just like to know so I know what to be on the look out for.
@zeo285 I have no idea how to make a video, nor am I fond of speaking into a microphone; the written word is my media of choice, unfortunately YouTube is a rather limited forum for that method of communication. ;^)
All I would ask is that people that have not read the FairTax should refrain from making statements that are inconsistent with the facts. Plus, there was something disingenuous about the speech being portrayed under the Ludwig von Mises banner that forced me to rebut the assertion.
According to Ron Paul and Tom Dilorenzo, if we abolished the income tax and replaced it with NOTHING we could still maintain the 1997 budget.
Last time I checked the FT is a 23%-30% national sales tax. Pretty much all taxes, starting immediately after institution, keep going up and up and up. The income tax was originally 1%. How do proponents of the FT know the FT won't just wildly increase like all other taxes and end up being a 50%-60% sales tax?
But won't it be easier to reduce the budget of the fed gov, once the percentage of our spent money is placed on all sales receipts? I see the FairTax as a stepping stone to lowering the budget.
I could pick this guy apart in a debate. I promise you

Two issues (at least) are being intertwined.

@AustinW90 "...How do proponents of the FT know the FT won't just wildly increase like all other taxes and end up being a 50%-60% sales tax?..."
how do you know the current tax rates won't do the same?

@timin770
I don't advocate any tax.

I dont see how that is at all. Taxes allways go up, so I think abolish the incometax and all others, and replace it with nothing.
