There isn't any shortage of "best songs ever written," but I'd put this song up against any of them. To say it's "country" isn't really accurate, although Johnny Cash does the quitessential version of it. It's The Blues, pure and simple. I love this version of it too, since it's kris doing his own, but Sean Mullins does a kickass version too.

I believe this version is from a CD called "The Austin Sessions", songs that Kris either wrote for other folks or were covered by other artists. He sings them all with guests on backing vocals and instrumentals. One of my absolute favorite CDs.
Ha! Back when I was about 17 or so, I partied a long weekend with Kris and Bob Dylan. 3 whole days. On Sunday night, Kris decided he was going on a walkabout, left everything. FUN WEEKEND!!
