My problem with you is the assumption that successful blacks feel that that the problems of our less fortunate are not our problems too. Don Imus doesn't seem to have anything against black women a -- he said so just listen to him "the girls from Tennessee they all look cute" - both teams seemed to have about the same number of African Americans on them. So I don't see his statement as Racist. He is not referring to the color of their skin but the choices they made in their appearance. People need to see that if you are judged by your actions that is not racism -- being judged by your color is and that is not what he did.

I do feel set apart from other black people who are not as accomplished. My problem with you is the assumption that successful blacks feel that that the problems of our less fortunate are not our problems too. This kind of talk is alienating I have spent both time and money going to the poorer black neighborhood. I've tried to mentor, I've created jobs and hired, but I want you to know that it's been a disappointing experience. I've tried, I haven't given up, but I am very discouraged.

My ancestors were irish and were called that name too but we didnt embrace the word and call each other that name. We fought aganst it and won. Some, I suppose we've been taught to hate ourselves and undervalue ourselves. People who are sick will always give you a "reason" or "excuse" to be able to treat you poorly. I guess many have an issue with Africans dancing and certain tribes having no clothes on. I guess this can be seen as "slutty"? But, then one does not want to look in themselves. Have you ever heard of the Willie Lynch (Syndrome)letter. It will shed a lot of light on our situation as African Americans. I kinda agree with symphony about the rappers and all but we have to also look at the record companies and corporations who market and promote our music. On the other hand our music isnt as bad as it used to be. Remember the 90's and Gangsta Rap. It is refreshing to see people dancing again. Everyone is making good points with the exception of a few.

You're right, it's wasn't blacks' attitudes which inspired the word.
