ya but still, its not worth getting the tesla. wayy to expensive, unless your rich, are you rich? anways it would take years!!! YEARS! to get your moneys worth.
plus, you can only go so far with an electric, takes to long to charge, and could break down just as easily, cost alot to fix it. not worth it.
and i did watch that documentary, and i say so what! have fun traveling no more than 100 miles or less, going about 60 mph, and waiting 6 hours to charge up.
The money you spend on gas = more money going outside the US to the Saudis and other f'kd up countries with no moral values, so put it this way, hummer= Anti-American, tesla/toyota hybrids = Patriotic, surprised how many people feel Patriotic driving their gas guzzling SUVs around with all that extra gas money going outside the US. It's not about the cost of the vehicle is about changing who benefits from them once people buy them. - wake up people
It looks like corolla because the dna is of Toyota. It looks nice and great though. It worth another 15K on top of corolla. I am going to add this to my wish list :)
The IS at around 30 grand should be the lowest. LS got really up there, but for the electronics, technology, performance, and the luxury it provides, it should be. I like to pay the lowest buck to get the biggest bang. And yea, I guess class should be a thing of the past. You pay for what you get, that is fair. ABCDEFGHIJKLNOPQRSTUVWxYZ class. No more, "We only sell to this income."
Lexus should only produce engines 6 cylinders and up, and make this HS 250H a Toyota brand. Lexus is a luxury brand, and luxury brands should be performance oriented, advanced in technology, and quality oriented throughout. Yes it appears that Lexus as well as many other auto makers have taken an environmental approach to making cars, and it is great! Bodies are lighter and softer but less wasteful. Also there will be less power of impact in an accident.
If Lexus is to be a global brand, it needs a couple smaller vehicles for urban markets. Just take a look at the BMW 1-series or the MB A, B and C classes. That's the general direction Lexus is heading with this HS and the sportier IS sedan.
My concern is whether or not this vehicle features Lexus-level interior design and execution.
Well, I do not know Lexus intentions. But I guess name, keeping the luxury brand name, is not as important as sales or global marketing. Either way. As long as the car looks good enough, big enough or expensive enough, a person driving their luxury car wouldn't be dissapointed in the brand. I myself thought of the previous generation IS as Honda Civic looking like and not appealing. What has Lexus become? But I didnt mind. This 250H should have Lexus detail and thats great. Go Lexus!
About your comment over 2 years ago. The BMW 1 series is the best entry level luxury car in the market. Its time to see luxury companies build cars for people instead of for name. Mercedes and Lexus are also heading to that approach. As a matter of fact, their interior designs even look better.
LEXUS CARS ARE BEAUTIFUL IN TERMS OF DESIGN. BUT NOT THIS. IT LOOKS LIKE A COROLLA FROM THE FRONT AND AN AVENSIS FROM THE BACK. I DONT KNOW WHAT THEY HAVE DONE WITH THE BACK, and the INTERIOR HAS TO BE WORST. QUALITY LOOKS EXCELLENT BUT DESIGN IS RUBIBSH.
I personally think That this LEXUS WILL NOT SUCCEED.
I LOVE LEXUS MORE THAN ANY OTHER BRAND. I THINK THEY HAVE SPOT ON DESIGN, NOT FLASH BUT NOT UGLY. THE BEST RELIABILITY AND QUALITY OF ANY LUXURY CAR MAKER (thats a fact by the way).
BUT THIS NEW HS IS NOT VERY GOOD LOOKING, HAS A RUBBISH INTERIOR DESIGN AND DOES NOT PROVE ANYTHING. IF THEY WANTED THEY SHOULD HAVE MADE A HYBRID IS.
The problem I have with this vehicle is that Toyota simply shoehorned the Lexus L-Finese design language onto the short Prius platform. It's time for Lexus to recieve platforms that aren't shared with existing Toyota vehicles.
I think the word you're looking for is "fugly." I don't really understand why the car sits so high. I mean yes, yes we get it, it's a hybrid so it's not going to be performance oriented. But does it have to look so slow?
why is it one person doesnt like and more people just say they dont?jeez man those taillights are beautiful, the headlights are pretty damn good, and u morons, its shaped weird cuz ITS A FREAKING HYBRID!!...damn..
If Toyota wants Lexus to be sucessful on a larger scale, then it will have to introduce smaller, more nimbles cars in markets outside the United States. Lexus, for the most part, is eating it in Europe.
True, but if your typical 20somthing is driving around in a cheap model then your 60something with money is not going to be so willing to shell out over 70 grand on an LS because of the lack of being exclusive.
When Lexus was first introduced in the 90s in the US it was like being a part of the club to own one. The entire Lexus brand was created for North America because people like to feel special here. Otherwise, the cars could have just been sold like Toyotas like other places.
Well, Lexus itself doesn't really cut corners in terms of quality, so I don't think the HS is going to be a disaster on that front.
Toyota has had a legacy of offering up relatively cheap vechiles under the Lexus nameplate. Neither the ES 250 available at the launch in August 1989 or the first-generation IS 300 put a dent in LS sales.
The first ES is the blacksheep of Lexus...they just needed a filler car to market with the LS at the time until a new camry came out and a new ES could be co-developed. The LS was the make or break car for Lexus in 1990.
The IS was not suitable to be a Lexus IMHO...shoulda been sold at Toyota dealers.
Normal wheelbase LS prices will hit $100K within 7-10 years. The snooty factor will be there way more than before.
I do agree that Toyota will not cut corners either way.
If there will ever be one, hopefully the next-gen ES will be moving to its own Lexus-specific platform.
Toyota would have to monumentally change the LS and even the automotive design tenets of Lexus, for it to have a BASE price starting at $100k. That's more than the sticker for a base S-Class or 7-series sedan.
Hopefully, in the next iteration, the LS uses even more higher quality interior materials.
Well, not really. Engineering is egineering, workers are workers, departments are departments. If you take Lexus and build an assembly line of its own, that should be enough. And of course among other things such as marketing department etc. A few workers in every department. Engineers and artists can stay and new ones can be hired. Materials used? We may all use the same. The only way to know about the quality of materials between brands is to ask.
Good god, a Lexus that doesn't look ugly from the side. Hybrids are for people that want to be seen to be green, but for whatever reason won't buy a diesel. If car makers were serious about being green, they combine a small diesel with the hybrid drive, then we'd be seeing real low fuel use.
Ok. I see current generation Corolla in the profile and Ford Fusion, Edge and Flex in the grill!! Is that three slat horizontal chrome grill doing anything for anyone??? Cause this car may certainly be a quality, overpriced, ugly piece of machinery!!!
reminds me of a Ford Focus with a 3-bar grill...not a bad thing if you like the current focus(not a big fan but...) But I think Toyota could have done A LOT BETTER...but then again...it is Toyota...!
the main problem i see with this car is that it doesn't look like a luxury-level car, meaning no one is gonna pay a lexus premium price to buy this...
and wait...whos gonna spend and 47,000 dollars to save 1.25 a gallon on gas? The purpose of a true hybrid isnt just to "save on gas"...its to SAVE MONEY. Spending a crapload just cause its 'hybrid' defeats the purpose..I dont get it

How is buying a Toyota hybrid patriotic? Buying a car engineered and built in Japan, where the profits go to Japan.
I'll go with the Escape Hybrid which is engineered and built in the US and the dollars stay in the country.
