Even after from when I first watched this, I have always found the blad thin creepy guy who takes down the bets to be the scariest mand I have ever seen. But still such a good film.
I've always seen the stereotypes in this movie to be satirical in nature. You look at someone who is obese or too small, or someone who eats frog, and make assumptions about them by appearance, then you look at Madam Souza and the Triplets. They look like frail old women, but they can take down mob syndicates and cross the ocean in paddle boats. It makes you look back at all the stereotypes in the movie and think of who the people really are.
I'm french, and after living twenty-two years in my country, I NEVER came across a single frog in my lunch...It's more like a myth nowadays, you can only find this in expensive restaurants.
@ThePiaflus I'm as french as you are, and I do eat frogs from time to time. It isn't a regular meal, but it IS still eaten in France. Just not on a regular basis.
ok this movie is fucking rasict to america its saying all of america is fat ok in know most of america is fat but there's fucking skinny people also so wtf is wrong with the french making fun of us?
@wadaledu Loads of movies show the wimpy french villain, the french mime (the french mime actually is a cliche, because we had once a mime that was famous), etc...
Jokes make fun of the french smoking, running away... I'd say the americans love to make fun of the french, but they have more to work with! But I don't mind that, it's good fun :)
Besides, this movie makes fun of both french AND americans, so there is nothing to complain about :p

2 quotes:
1. The horse sound as the shot is fired at the down cyclist at the beginning of this sequence - refers to "They Shoot Horses, Dont They"
2. The fight of the old lady with the mobster, without music, refers to Paul Newman fighting the Stazi agnet in "The Torn Curtain"

@ChrysLT And Belleville is a mixture of New York and Montreal. When Bruno steals the beggar's sausage he curses him in French with a Montreal accent.
