frigidaire really does suck i bought a washer and dryer 2 years ago and i also went for the lifetime warranty but they have had to come out and repair many different things about every 4 months and now they just say their done helping us. they wont repair it the arent nice and now i have a washer that wont run and a dryer that destroys all my clothes
i have all of you beat ? i work @ a trailer park. i've been trying figure why all Frigidaire have dying about 13 in 2 years nuff said?lowes / electrolux was offering incentives to their sales staff now i know why. been all over the to fix this/these problems. only fix is to not buy Frigidaire/Electrolux.
I have a frigidaire front loader that only uses 12 gallons of water for the entire cycle on heavy load, extra rinse, that's ridiculous, the water coming out at the end of the rinse looks cloudy, these green idiots at consumer reports and the FTC are screwing these things up with their over zealous focus on efficiency, if you are going to buy one of these things, look for the one that uses the most water, commercial models work fine, the models bragging about efficiency will not clean.
I also bought a new French Gallery Frig. About $2000 plus a $200 extensive Guarantee. We have had 9 different probs in ten months. The main being a temperature discrepancy between a deceptive door readout of 33 degrees and the internal of 45-55 very unsafe for food storage. We are getting as many as possible together for a class action suite for their quality. Let me know if you'd like to join in. We have a group on Facebook called "Frigidaire(R) Sux" Feel free to join us, or ganerd@yahoo.com
I appreciate the video and now understand that although the situation may seem futile, at least with some complaining I might still be able to recoupe some of the money spent on my now 4 year old washer.
Surprising how I'm not really concerned being the thrifty guy I normally am.
Maybe this has to do with the fact that I know I must of washed 1200 to 1500 heavy loads with the maching with absolutely no complaint. I MEAN WE ALL WOULD LIKE SOMETHING TO LAST FOREVER BUT THE TRUTH IS IT WON'T
Try this link for a bearing problem which I think this guy had...???? I am NOT a repair guy and I don't know the person with the link below.. Just trying to help others out is all. youtube.com/watch?v=K4AeUy1V6Vg&feature=fvwp&NR=1
I have been in the Appliance repair business for 28 years now and i tell everyone to stay away from front loaders they all suck. Also any digital appliance, stoves have a vent under the board and it melts the board. Dont use self clean, the first time you use it thats the end of the board. Washers the steam comes up and burns out the board. If you remember all the old stuff lasted 25 plus years they make all this new stuff to break.
I think my point is that the companies are trying to promote "Green" with front load using less water, yet the machines are disposable after 7 years. The steel can be recycled but all the other "e-waste" is negating the Green benefits on a renewable resource (Water). A simple design change would have eliminated the spider arm corrosion.
@dotcom777 - The industry is starting to move back in the top load direction. They'll be more HE than front loaders. They are also agitator-less so your clothes don't get the crap beaten out of them.
FRIGIDAIRE SUCKS BALLS!!!!!! I bought a ffront load washer, top- freezer/refrig, stove and microwave in 2007..., my washer AND refrigerator are both in LANDFILLS!
I have Fridgidaire same washer, going on 10 years+ and we have kids so we load it up full and run 5 loads a week. We also broke shocks but replaced. Lately makes a puddle on the floor during fill, I disassembled and saw water stains from a "air vent" looking hole on the water guide into the drum - I restricted the input water to run it slower, fixed mostly. We have not had trouble with the spider but wife goes easy on bleach/detergent and we have city water. Thanks for info.
Frigidaire dehumidifiers are no better with a 12 month warranty, unit fails at 14 months. Reviews show over 50 % similar problems. Low and behold they discontinue model and refuse to replace it. FRIGIDAIRE SUCKS
my washer is Bosch and my dryer is hotpoint! my hotpoint dryer started making a strange noise so i opened it up on the back and i found that the hearter element was over heating and expanding the metal drum causing it to rub off the outer casing! my hotpoint washer died the same way as yours did but it wasnt over time it was a lode that was too heavy! ! so the hotpoint dryer sits on the bosch no bother!!

exactly the same problem that just happened to mine, I have a Kenmore from Sears but it's manufacturered by Frigidaire. Last year I replaced the broken plastic shock absorbers now the bearing and spider arm is gone 6 years later. Sending her to the dump! DON'T BUY ONE!
Oh and as a side note: My mother (the lady who kills most appliances in 7 years), has had a frigidaire affinity and has loved it.. Knock on wood, 6 years and going strong.. NO bleach, NO tide! Its all in how you use it and how you care for it
We had 24 of these in a Laundromat and they did fine for the most part.. 12 years of hard commercial use.. The key? NO BLEACH!!! NO BLEACH!!! NO OVER LOADING!!! AND, Not USING TIDE.. WE offer free soap and train our clients how to do laundry using non caustic methods and chemicals.. Leaving the door open to air out, not over loading (these machines can only handle 12-16 lbs of laundry) and NO BLEACH OR TIDE!
Normally, I'm not too fond of Frigidaire appliances, but the experiences I've had with these front loaders (and the ones made by Frigidaire and sold as "Kenmores") has been completely positive. They're quiet, etc., and I've NEVER had what seems to be a common problem of "washing machine odor".
i used to run the appliance dept at sears ive actually sold a few of these if you got 7 years out of it you got your moneys worth.to manufacture a washer with stainless and real steel and rubber interals with no plastic parts in the driveline we would have 3000$ dollar washers and 2500$ dryers.my 1974 amana died 2 years ago i replaced it with a kenmore he4 speak of the devil its in my laundry room screaming right now.i give it a few months at least i bought a 5 year warranty and to the yard sale
I would consider italobambino comment. That is true what he metioned also if you are using bleach and you have hard water that can also be hard and any washer and you will end up replacing the drum assembly and basket on any front load washer don't blame Frigidaire. the dryer with brown marks in the back can be caused by overloading them with too much garments and not cleaning lint filter. To my knowlege Frigidaire is pretty good machine what you are saying is your opinion

my dad has a maytag washer and dryer from the 80s and they are stil going strong..built when maytag was maytag..now they are all built with the same cheap parts. Im thinking about getting a model from the 80s and sticking to it and if something breaks ill find the part..instead of ending up like this poor customer in this vid with a catostrophic break down...this makes me angry
they are all made cheaply... get used to it.... as consumers, we demand low price, and dispose them after 10 years of use with no maintenance , do that with your car?.. ....... I own many frigidaire appliances . Same as whirlpool. kenmore etc.. misinformation

My virtually identical Gallery started making LOTS of noise over three years ago- based on the cost/benefit to repair, I ran it until it finally started making too much noise which was last week. I expected it to last a *lot* longer :(
My Miele W4842 should be here later today.
Definitely some serious shortcomings in mechanical design!
I also want to add, take in to consideration water quality in your regional area, if you have hard water, that could have also contributed to the premature corrosion. Yes, that spider is made of a cast aluminum composite metal, most likely mixed with tin. When mounted to the Stainless steel drum, you get a battery type reaction! However, your water quality may have sped up the deterioration.
I also found a video posted about a similar incident concerning a Kenmore front loader. Same situation, composite metal attached to stainless steel. I recall back in the mid 90's, a few manufacturers were making washing machine baskets out of PVC. My Tapan washer is made by the Frigidaire company. Frigidaire still makes top loaders with the PVC. Maybe they should use PVC in the front loaders! Years ago Westinghouse, Philco and G-E made front loaders, and they lasted!
I have the exact same setup as in the video. Ours were purchased in 2001. I am getting some loud noises on the spin cycle, which I think is the bearing. Otherwise it has been great all of these years. I will look at replacing the bearing and other stuff in it.
I have a Tapan top loader that is now 13 years old. Tapan is now a sub company made by White consolidated which is ultimately Electrolux . In any case, my washer is trouble free, never fails, does it's job. I would never buy any make of front loader, ever!
i hate to break it too you. but all front loaders wear out in about 7 to ten years. when you rotate heavy objects horizontally, you tend to wear out something..... you will wear out the bearing.
and if your dryer overheats, theres a thermal fuse. they tend to overheat because people vent their dryers like retards. and cause fires due to PLASTIC venting.
im a tech, i speak from experience. all fl washers will blow bearings in about 7 yrs.
Yes, Frigidaire products suck...My front loading washer, door lock mechanism went out in less than 1.5 years; $130. I will now begin counting the costs of repairs and what is certain to be the raping of my pocketbook.
And....my Frigidaire upright side by side, fridge/freezer leaks water all over the floor every self-defrost cycle. Frigidaire blows!.. Never buy from this company unless you are prepared to shell out for the repairs.
No sleepheader--when I purchased my Sears Kenmore (rebadged Frigidaire) I asked about special detergent and he said (just 1/3 cup of your regular detergent). It's not the detergent, it's metallurgy like he explained.
@dotcom777 Next time buy a Bosch. I went through the same thing with a Whirlpool dishwasher- It was only 4 yrs old The top sprayer arm stopped turning, it left my dishes all filmy, cloudy, ill rinsed. Top rack starting falling apart and one of the wheels to the upper rack fell off. Silverware would never get clean, cause rack was attached to the door. Americans make junk. I don't why people try and deny it. The dishwasher was replaced with a European Bosch brand; we love doing the dishes now
@kingkongspa I have told people about the poor quality of Frididaire for nine years. I sell appliances and I would rather you you walk then you buy Frididaire they really does suck go mid range Kenmore that is made by LG and you should be good.
Zanussi and Electrolux front load washers, sold in UK, are the same product. In the UK you can buy the replacement spider and rear basket bearings. U-tube shows repairs. On e-bay you can seach and find the part (use worldwide search for zanussi washer spider). Also you can purchase the two rear tub bearings on e-bay: 6306-2RS and 6307-2RS
You asked what caused this failure? Well Sir, its built buy Frigidaire, thats the failure. And just so everyone knows, Electrolux is the same crap as this, so get away from there as well. You want a good unit, then get a LG or a Samsung. The new Kenmore Elite front loaders are now built buy LG, so even Sears has a clue that the American made front loaders are trash.
That is terrible! I just bought a frigidaire affinity 2 years ago and from what I gather they are physically designed amost exactly the same as the galleries. Now Im concerned this will happen to mine in a few years and I only have a service agreement for another 2 years. Whirlpool and Kenmore front loaders have the same thing going on. Why are these companies getting away with this?
I had a front loader and just replaced it with a top loader. The top loader works perfect no more musky smell and I dont have to worry about the little ones safety with leaving the door opened to air out.
You are right! If Frigidaire wanted to make good and resistant washers they wouldn't put such weak materials just in the parts that have to be strong (suporting the basket)! and answering to rubin808 , Good washers aren't suposed to last only ten years (at least the european frontloaders aren't: Siemens and AEG still talk about 15 years, and Miele are the best ones because they promise 20 years but their machines last More than that! Old AEG used to last a lifetime too)
@sleepheader That is a well know fallacy from the manufacturers of ALL front loaders....do your home work. Aluminum spider arms attached to stainless steel tub, mixed with detergent (anykind) causes the corrosion. Ask the thousands of consumers who did use the HE....same problem.
Washers last about ten years. Your washer is seven years old which is close to ten. You need to get a new washer or repair the one you have so SYOP complaining.
@rubin808 I had a POS $300 top loader that lasted 12...good God, you have no idea what you’re talking about and have no business offering an opinion about something you obviously no nothing about...7 years my rear! It should last 10-15....oh wait...My mistake you are right, 7 years or less is about right for a Frigidaire that should last 10.
From what I've seen, most front-loaders APPEAR to be built this way. It's a recipe for failure: aluminum and stainless steel will undergo galvanic reaction in the presence of an ionic solution like tap water. Even distilled water has a slightly acidic pH at the temps typically encountered in the washer, and will cause dissimilar metals corrosion. Detergents will create a strong alkaline solution, and also cause dissimilar metals corrosion. Then there's chlorine and fluorine in tap water....
@5610winston , Cruel planned obsolescence that most customers are not sophisticated enough to know about because most people aren't curious enough to take apart one of these washers when it dies to actually see what went wrong. Whirlpools and Kenmores have a screw or bolt that sticks out and abrades the tub as it spins and agitates, which eventually (about 5 years) kills the washer and tub
The whole problem is that aluminum and stainless steel have different chemical properties that cause corrosion when the two metals are in contact in the presence of an ionic solution (even distilled water is not completely inert). It's the same property that causes galvanized iron water pipe to corrode when connected to copper. Add the chemicals in your detergent, bleach, and the traces of calcium, chlorine, and fluorine in your tap water and this failure is inevitable.
I am a servicer in Canada. The tub and spider are covered under the 25 year warranty. The damaged outer tubs are not and the damage to these would have been minimal if you had taken notice of the banging and smashing this machine was doing for the months prior to its final days. The #1 reason for the failure in the spider is incorrect and or too much soap. Better luck with the next one.
OMG...I have a crappy Kenmore that is doing the same thing. It is 5.5 yrs old and was about $800! I am afraid to see inside it after looking at yours. I am not happy about any of these washers. It seems a lot of people have trouble with front load ones. They need to charge about 1/3 of the price they do since these are "disposable" washers.
WOW! I was just looking at new FL washer and dryers today for us. I was looking at the Affinity 6700 and the 8000 series. Not now. God bless the interwebs and good user reviews!
I got a 50% rebate from Electrolux so I bought the same unit. I'll run it into the ground and buy something else when this breaks. Hopefully I'll get 7 years out of it. Total 14 years $1,000.
I just spent $511 on a Whirlpool WTw5300VW conventional top-loader, and it works great. Previous experience with Whirlpool machines suggest ten to twelve year longevity. STAY AWAY FROM FRONT_LOADERS!
@AlanMolstad And you should be concerned. It's not just Frigidaire front loaders that are like this. Kenmores, Whirlpools, Maytags, Electrolux, are designed the same way on purpose-- to WEAR out. The new Kenmore Elites are supposedly made my LG which have much better technology. But why give Sears your money when they didn't care about ripping you off in the first place???? A washer should last 10-14 years before anything goes wrong with it
Did you get a washer like this one, or another model? I have a model similar to this from the USA, and mine is from 1999. Mine has held up for 10 years. Maybe I just got lucky and got a good model. Better than the US Hotpoint top loader I had that broke, and no repair man could get it fixed, and it was junk after just 3 years. Not sure if my next washer will be a Frigidaire. I paid $650 USD for mine.
Wait untill your dryer gose. Just fixed mine. Yet another peace of sh it. They don't tell you when you duy it that you have to grease it every 18 to 24 mounths
The drum spider only really brakes if the washer is misused. This machine is built to European specifications, where chlorine bleach is never used in a washer and we have only low sudsing detergents. You must only use "HE" powders in a front loading washer, never use detergent meant for top loaders and never use chlorine bleach, use oxygen based bleach and hot water on whites. This way, the chances of the drum spider becoming corroded is very low. This is how we Europeans wash. :)
@Hoover1100 I stopped using chlorine bleach cause it got tired of its toxic effects. My whites get just as white with with borax and vinegar or baking soda and vinegar. However, vinegar is an acid, so it might not be good for front loading washers eitehr.
Do they advise against using chlorine bleach in the instructions?
nice video, in 4 years, my frigidaire started leaking at the seam of the plastic drum. To replace the gasket I would of had to take it apart as you did. Instead I cranked the bolts holding the drum. It's holding so far. I'm not looking forward to dealing with more crappy engineering in the future.
Globalists make trashy products. All products made by globalists and subcontracted to mostly China are made like sheat. Globalist pigs do not want Chinese to made products well.'''Trash is their motto.,and they charge well for all that imported trash.
ahhh yet another frigidaire failure... I used to work for te company in the 90's and got one of these neat new machines in 1998 when they were fairly new.. I ran it for about 4 years and lost the tub bearing.... 5 years later bearing noise again and matching dryer motor locked.. tstat didnt kill heater... smoke filled the house.. had i not been home my house wouldve burnt down.. electrolux didnt care when I called.. so I bought a new LG set in 2007... no more frigidaire for me
@eldoradoboy maytag is always the best way to go....our set is over 20 yrs old still works like new...only replacement was the gas dryer cuz of the pilot light...were lookin to upgrade now though
New Maytag suck 2. Reason yours is so good is because it is OLD. I bought new Whirlpool in 1980 that lasted 15 years before it gave out. I then bought Maytag set that only lasted about 7 yrs. Workmanship sucks these days. I kno someone related to a loser that worked at one of the major car companies.Felt he wasn't being paid enough and on purpose did things that would cause new car owners problems & thought it was funny. Glad he is now unemployed. Wonder how hard he is laughing about that.
20 years ago Maytag was built in Newton, Iowa. They have since been bought out and what now passes for Maytag is a rebadged Hurlpoop---uh--- Whirlpool. New Whirlpool conventional top-loaders with two-piece agitators are noisy as heavy construction equipment (service man says it's normal).
We gave a 1987 Maytag to a large family about seven years ago, and it still works well washing 15 loads a week, average.
@eldoradoboy another thing is that frigidare does suck...we own a glass top electric stove by them...within the first 2 years the oven heater went out and we had to replace it...the digital clock doesnt show anymore...and the burners dont get as hot as they used to....frigidare sucks ass
I've been in the commercial industry for 7 yrs now and have handled quite a few of these washers and I have personally never seen the rear spider just fall apart like that. Of course I've seen bearings wear out but the one that I own is 9 years old and still runs like new.
I wonder if all Frigidaire front loaders have this spider problem. I saw another YouTube video of a different model but supposedly also Frigidaire drum where the spider has corroded too. The house I live in uses a Frigidaire front loader. I hope it doesn't have this kind of failure!
I had this exact same washer and dryer pair in my house I sold a year ago in Charleston, SC. They were bought in 1999. Glad now that I sold them with the house! I have LG Tromms now. Odd thing is the only thing that broke on my Frigidaire washer was the $2.00 door catch. Other than that, they were great working machines for me.
The only brand I can really recommend is Miele. Anything but cheap but worth it anyway. My Miele washer is 14 years old now and still as good as at the very first day!
Maybe frigidaire fixed this issue with the newer and latest models... I just bought a frig front load washer and dryer.. I just love mine.. electrolux bought frigidaire.. which gives me peace of mind!
I have exactly the same unit that was purchased brand new in 2002. I have the same bearing issue so I called the service dept at the store (TA Appliance warehouse) I bought it and they told me not to bother fixing it as it would cost $500-$600 and would not be worth it. They told me that I was LUCKY to have mine last as long as it did and that they ALL have the same problem. Imagine that everyone who bought these has or will have the same problem within 5-8 yrs. Frigidaire does indeed SUCK!
Well, At first I thought you were being over the top by bashing Frigidare but you do have a great point. What's worse is trying to pick a good front loader, when most of them have this very same problem. I would probably point fingers at Whirlpool because they tend to have somewhat of a monopoly on the appliance biz. Yes Frigidare was once owned by Maytag, but Whirlpool bought Maytag (MAYCOR) and all the companies they owned. I guess you really have to do your math before you spend the money.
Frigidaire was never owned by maytag.originally, fridgidaire was a division of G.M. They were bought out by white consolidated industries in 1979. White Consolidated was bought out by electrolux. Electrolux was bought out by Eureka..........Get the picture?
Have the same problem also. I spent all day on the phone with Fridgidaire after having their authorized repair man come and tell me $600+ to repair( Paid $700 for it a little over 4 years ago) . Was not willing to pay for parts, do have someone who will do labor for a good price. By being persistent ( also watching this and several other videos) had Fridgidaire send me replacement parts both inner and outer tub for free.Call and complain, complain, complain!!!
I agree, they suck. Mine is 4 yrs old and doing that. Never again frigidaire. Just sold a 20 yr old maytag toploader that worked fine! Thanks for your video, I hoope many will learn.
I know how you feel. My dad's been always working on my 1998 washer/dryer set. The dryer's always beem a pain, but now that my moter's been replaced on the washer, everything's fine, for now, at least.
Interesting, you're also a very good graphic artist!
You mentioned Stainless steel against Aluminium? Is there concern here?
Do they react this badly to each other.
WIth a Youtube like this, they should be not only looking at their manufacturing but giving you product(s) for free at your doorstep. I for one will avoid Frigidaire. As I would think many others would.
received the check to cover 50% of the purchase of a new Frigidaire (Electrolux) product of similar style. I have now spend $1200.00 for a (2) washing machines that will hopeful last a total of 12 years. Still not impressed with the construction and expect the problems will occur with this unit too. By that time I may move to a different (cheapest) style and dispose of after it dies. Still not the greenest solution but economical the right one for me.
Thanks for publishing this video. I too have a Frigidaire--have had it for only three years and it looks like the door lock assembly or control board is bad; clothes come out soaking wet because the spin cycle never kicks in like it should (the control board doesn't think the door is locked). Three years of 2 person use and it's already seeing issues. I think I might find out if the spider is aluminum, look at the plastic basin, fix the lock problem, sell it & move on over to a Samsung WF337!
Thanks for the video. I was shopping for a washer dryer sets for my condominiums and was considering Frigidaire because I thought that it was a good brand. Any engineer worth his salt knows about electrolysis and dissimilar metals. This machine is obviously designed to fail. I'll pass on Frigidaire.
I bought a Frigidaire last June and am having the same problem Proconsumer said: not spinning properly... it seems to have trouble balancing the load prior to spinning... no matter what type of load of laundry I have in there... it's pissing me the f*^k off! it's balance sensor it too sensitive! could there possibly be a way to adjust this on the control board?... or is it a fixed piece... anyone ever looked at the innards of one??
Mines is making the noise of one broken "leg" of the "spider". If i hadn't watch this clip; i would've gotten to drum with a lot of work. Therefore, you have made a very good job with this video mate. I thank you a lot. G_d D_mned washer machine. Mines was like 3 yrs old. I'll try one phone call. Thanks again. Never mind the fools.
I feel your pain dotcom777! I just completely disassembled mine to find the exact same ridiculous corrosion on the spider with two of the three arms completely fractured. It's astounding what has to come apart to gain access to the faulty part and even more unbelievable that the spider is made of aluminum. There would have been cheaper alternatives...wonder if it is engineered to fail after the warranty expires. Possible planned obsolescence?
7 years old? You are complaining it needs a repair??? What a waste of time this video is. There is 6 minutes of my life I'll never get back again. What do you do when a 7 year old car breaks? Complain about that not lasting too? :O
You can only access the inner basket by removing the back plate, whole tub. It's not worth repairing it since the cost if repair is more than buying a new one. Complain to Frigidaire or Sears or Electrolux. They may helpbwith the cost of replacement.
great vid dotcom777. I believe I have the same problem as you with my Frigidair washer/different model. I hear a loud clunk/squeaking noise when I turn the drum & that stops the motor from spinning. Do you know if I have to remove the front of my washer to get out the drum?
I just purchsed a Frigidaire 'Affinity' on Oct 30, 2008 and by Dec. 15 I was calling the repaqir technician due to the machine not properly spinning. I was told a slipped belt had been fixed but it only lasted a week & now it needs a new belt, pulley, inner and outer tub plus a control board - some parts not available until Feb 09 - all this for normal use of about 4 weeks. Never again will I even consider Frigidaire.
I have a similar one from 1999, and I paid US $650 on sale. I've been lucky mine has held up. Only work done to it has been replacing 2 drain pumps, due to my sister refusing to empty her pockets, and it burnt out, twice. Other than that, mine has worked fine. I don't have the matching dryer though. But I do want to upgrade to a bigger one at a later date, but not sure what I'll get. I however don't want the small Frigidaire again.
HE SOAP and 1 once max.

@gordongmilleriii The $300.00 off was as good as I could expect.

I bought a ffront load washer, top- freezer/refrig, stove and microwave in 2007..., my washer AND refrigerator are both in LANDFILLS!
cccolb 5 months ago

Oh and as a side note: My mother (the lady who kills most appliances in 7 years), has had a frigidaire affinity and has loved it.. Knock on wood, 6 years and going strong.. NO bleach, NO tide! Its all in how you use it and how you care for it
travlincub321 11 months ago

Years ago Westinghouse, Philco and G-E made front loaders, and they lasted!
italobambino43 1 year ago
I have the exact same setup as in the video. Ours were purchased in 2001. I am getting some loud noises on the spin cycle, which I think is the bearing. Otherwise it has been great all of these years. I will look at replacing the bearing and other stuff in it.

I have a Tapan top loader that is now 13 years old. Tapan is now a sub company made by White consolidated which is ultimately Electrolux . In any case, my washer is trouble free, never fails, does it's job. I would never buy any make of front loader, ever!

had a maytag witht he same issue. broke down and purchased a bosch.
azthundercloud 1 year ago
i hate to break it too you. but all front loaders wear out in about 7 to ten years. when you rotate heavy objects horizontally, you tend to wear out something..... you will wear out the bearing.
and if your dryer overheats, theres a thermal fuse. they tend to overheat because people vent their dryers like retards. and cause fires due to PLASTIC venting.
im a tech, i speak from experience. all fl washers will blow bearings in about 7 yrs.

That is terrible! I just bought a frigidaire affinity 2 years ago and from what I gather they are physically designed amost exactly the same as the galleries. Old AEG used to last a lifetime too)
Best wishes!
soundslikeblue 1 year ago
@sleepheader That is a well know fallacy from the manufacturers of ALL front loaders....do your home work. Aluminum spider arms attached to stainless steel tub, mixed with detergent (anykind) causes the corrosion. Ask the thousands of consumers who did use the HE....same problem.

DorkProd 1 year ago
From what I've seen, most front-loaders APPEAR to be built this way. It's a recipe for failure: aluminum and stainless steel will undergo galvanic reaction in the presence of an ionic solution like tap water. Even distilled water has a slightly acidic pH at the temps typically encountered in the washer, and will cause dissimilar metals corrosion. Detergents will create a strong alkaline solution, and also cause dissimilar metals corrosion. Then there's chlorine and fluorine in tap water....
5610winston 1 year ago 3
@5610winston , Cruel planned obsolescence that most customers are not sophisticated enough to know about because most people aren't curious enough to take apart one of these washers when it dies to actually see what went wrong. Whirlpools and Kenmores have a screw or bolt that sticks out and abrades the tub as it spins and agitates, which eventually (about 5 years) kills the washer and tub
BlogShag 1 year ago
The whole problem is that aluminum and stainless steel have different chemical properties that cause corrosion when the two metals are in contact in the presence of an ionic solution (even distilled water is not completely inert). It's the same property that causes galvanized iron water pipe to corrode when connected to copper. Add the chemicals in your detergent, bleach, and the traces of calcium, chlorine, and fluorine in your tap water and this failure is inevitable.
5610winston 1 year ago
I am a servicer in Canada. The tub and spider are covered under the 25 year warranty. The damaged outer tubs are not and the damage to these would have been minimal if you had taken notice of the banging and smashing this machine was doing for the months prior to its final days. The #1 reason for the failure in the spider is incorrect and or too much soap. Better luck with the next one.

OMG...I have a crappy Kenmore that is doing the same thing. It is 5.5 yrs old and was about $800! I am afraid to see inside it after looking at yours. I am not happy about any of these washers. AlanMolstad 2 years ago

Hoover1100 2 years ago
@Hoover1100 Europeans should be the only manufactures of washing machines(front load type) in my book.
Chris242tt 1 year ago
@Hoover1100 I stopped using chlorine bleach cause it got tired of its toxic effects. My whites get just as white with with borax and vinegar or baking soda and vinegar. However, vinegar is an acid, so it might not be good for front loading washers eitehr.
Do they advise against using chlorine bleach in the instructions?

I guess you really have to do your math before you spend the money.

received the check to cover 50% of the purchase of a new Frigidaire (Electrolux) product of similar style.

I didn't see any sensors. I do have a more video but I have no way to determine which part is a balance sensor.

I have the same problem - and the steel/aluminum issue is design 101. I belive it is planned obsolescence.
Thanks for the video.

7 years old? You are complaining it needs a repair??? What a waste of time this video is. There is 6 minutes of my life I'll never get back again. What do you do when a 7 year old car breaks? Complain about that not lasting too? :O
CharsGirl1974 3 years ago
If you paid $30,000 for a car and 7 years later the repair bill was $25,000 I think you would complain. Thanks for your helpful analogy.
I am sure with these outstanding comments you will be an excellent member of the Youtube community.

Do you know if I have to remove the front of my washer to get out the drum?
aNdystaR08 3 years ago
You need to remove the whole tub assembly from the back. It takes over 3 hours if you know what you are doing. 4 hours for a novice.
