please some kind folk assist me; I am looking for a recorded song with lyrics Come where the birds are singing a song of the mountains. Come where the heart is calling you from the mountains. If I could hear an echo from you my belovered I'l be be close to heaven-the mountains and my love....
One of my family's all-time favorites. To listen to this and turn up the volume and close your eyes, is the best of the best. Certainly Beethoven and Tchaikovsky are incredible, but this one piece, this one chorus in Tannhauser, is sublime.
The new CD from the Men of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir (2011) has a "better" and more clear version of this great chorus. The are few ways better than listening to this chorus sung by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir to get closer to the Lord and what he has done for all mankind.

Of course another fucked up group a people are gonna give a bad name to Wagner; First it was the Nazis now the Mormons, can there be a God, if so stop this madness plz!!!!!!!!!

@10thFulcrum I looked at your profile to see what would qualify you to pass judgment on Mormons. All I saw was a 20 year old man, whose taste in music was poor. I, therefore, doubt your ability to pass judgment on a people who try to do nothing but good in this gloomy world.
This is not a political statement but this was Adolph Hitlers favourite work. I can understand why , it is quite stirring and a great favourite of mine too.
@RodsAndAxes oh please do some more research about polygamy and Mormons before you criticize otherwise you loose all credibility, as is true in this case.
Oh, men chorus, I just love them! And the Mormon Tabernacle chorus is awesome, regardless that you are Mormon or not. (I am not:) They just sing soooo well!
I must have heard Tannhauser when I was very young. I heard it again recently... and it was like meeting a good old friend again. Try the other versions here, and you will see what I mean.
I've listened to this piece sung in English, German, & Welsh. It's great to hear in those languages and I'm assuming it's great to hear in other languages too. It's not the language that's important but the music. Get a Grip!!!
@Mxsmanic They sing a whole library of different music that includes many languages! I've heard German, Latin, French, Spanish, Russian just to name a few. This version might be in English but doesn't take away from the beauty of the song. Maybe one day they will sing this in the language you so desire! :)
As stunningly beautiful as this is, and in spite of the fact that I do not speak or understand German, this English rendition of the traditional piece feels to me like it lacks some element of deep soul and spiritual brilliance which only the original can invoke.
Does anyone know where I could find the English lyrics to this song? I like how the German lyrics sound too, but they're harder for me to sing. The English ones are just really hard to find. Can anybody help me?
Once more with joy O my home I may meet Once more ye fair, flowr'y meadows I greet My Pilgrim's staff henceforth may rest Since Heaven's sweet peace is within my breast. The sinner's 'plaint on high was heard On high was heard and answered by the Lord The tears I laid before His shrine Are turned to hope and joy divine. O Lord eternal praise be Thine! The blessed source of Thy mercy overflowing On souls repentant seek Ye, all-knowing Of hell and death, I have no fear For thou my Lord are ever
@bulshoy That's not what they sing here. last part - "My gracious Lord is ever near" Alleluia Alleluia Eternity is evermore here" I've heard others lyrics song too. The best: Elmer Fudd 'Oh brunhilda you're so wuvwee Bugs 'Yes i know it I can't help it EF 'Oh brunhilda be my wuv EF Weturn my wuv a wonging burns deep inside me BB return my love I want you always beside me EF wuv wike ours must be BB made for you and for me (both) return, won't you return my love, oh my love is yours!
OK I heard this again this morning on the May 2 2010 Spoken Word broadcast at 9 :30. I am taken up to another rhelm when I hear this Choir sing this music and the strings are heavenly. I can now die in peace! I feel this music was inspired just as much as Handel's Messiah.
In Wagners mind his music was written for the german nation and only the germans could understand it. Its a shame to hear this piece in this "strange" language. Wagner turns in his grave
@Malegnius Wagenr's music is associated with Nazis:
From Wikipedia: Much heat is generated by Wagner's comments on Jews, which continue to influence the way that his works are regarded, and by the essays he wrote on the nature of race from 1850 onwards, and their putative influence on the antisemitism of Adolf Hitler
@exeter18 - excuse me, but wouldn't it be generally true that the text (regardless of form) would be best in it's native tongue? 'La Marseilles' comes to mind - not tough to translate but try singing it in English or German and see where you get :)
I've liked this tune for a very long time; it's nice to finally 'understand' the lyrics.
I love this song, and it has helped me get through some tough times in the past. I am so greatful that the the choir recorded this wonderful version of this song. Thank you!
What a beautiful sound.

@Malegnius The Lyrics of Tannhauser are clearly pagan... Read the English translation of libretto (lyrics)
Note the first line of the first act:
Overture
ACT ONE
The Venusberg
SCENE ONE
The stage represents the interior of the Venusberg.
Sirens, Venus, Tannh?user, Nymphs, Bacchantes, Amorous couples
