  • In reply to glenrea and LX319, yes this is a Gardner 6LW engined Guy Arab V with a Guy 4 speed Constant mesh gear box and Northern Counties bodywork, She should have been built by Massey Brothers but NCME took Masseys over before the buses were built.

  • is it a Gardner-engined Guy Arab V with sem-automatic gearbox?

  • it sounds like a crash or half crash box

  • reminds me of when i sat my psv or pcv as it's called now in 1988 it was a leyland routemaster that was originaly used in london in the 60's/70's and had a crash gearbox

  • @24nov67 unusual for route masters to be manual cos as early as 1949 they was put out on pre select

  • I was a clippy on this bus when it broke down in Saltney with a broken half shaft, in 1980. It was collecting dust and in pieces in the Chester City Transport depot for years! Brab58

  • All the wonderful Arab IV/V sound effects.

What a pity these reliable and characterful vehicles aren't still built.

  • Im suprised its got a manual box

  • What a great sounding engine! Is it a Gardner lump?

  • Not sure what engine sorry.

  • Yes, definitely a Gardner. Most likely a 6LW.

  • Gardner 6LX 10.45 Litres was available from around 1962 to the 1970s
