Without a doubt, the finest piece of pop songwriting in the last century. This song will go down in history as one of the Western world's greatest classics.
Shame that the woman in the hospital scrubs to Mick's left at around the 1.00 mark hadn't stumbled and plunged the knife she's holding into his back. I reckon he put this out because he felt service was slipping when he went out to spend his hard-earned fortune and he wanted the world's servants to buck their ideas up and work harder. This is after basing the Jagger persona on being a bad hard-drugging anti-establishment devilish phucker, and influencing a generation to get wasted and drop out.
"knife in the back", "influencing generation to get wasted" as if generations didn't get wasted by themselves before he was born and won't do the same when he'll die. as for "phucking" if he works half that hard in bed as on his singing/performance then the audience has nothing to complain about. unless they are just lazy. and deaf. no, i'm not attracted to Sir Jagger - it would be the same as to be attracted to mother figure thank you very much.
I actually went to this video shoot when I was like 12 years old...I think it was in like 89 or something. Me, my sister and my mom were all in the video - Mick was AWESOME and took a kick as picture with my sister and was really nice to all of us...I'm at 2:58 - The paper-boy!
I think John Lennor or Paul McCartney at their absolute worst were still light years better than this. I remember when this came out. Sound much worse with age. Mick, stick to Gimme Shelter, et als.
@JockoJohnson666 ..... Lennon and McCartney could never get over themselves enough to have a bit of Fun.. The Beetles were the biggest Hoax ever perpetrated. They produced crap during a time when Experimental was celebrated. I wish they WERE alive.. just so they could have proven they had no Legs, no lasting talent.
I stand corrected, even the worst Ringo effort is better than this poor excuse for a tune. Heck, I think it's fair to say that even the worst Ringo CD is still better than the entire solo Stones collective output, sans maybe that one Ron Wood record. Keith wanted to throw a beating on Mick for this. Nuff said right there.
Corny video but I have to agree with Mick. Lets work, lets work, lets work! We were designed for it. Not for sitting down on ur but or makin enemies. Too many people think that they will get rich with get rich quick schemes and won't have to work and miss the fact that work is good for you. Even God worked for 6 days and then rested on the 7th. Change ur attitude and be a blessing to others and not just ur self. Can you agree?
Jesus keiths right. This guy really did lose touch with reality. He didnt wanna be "pigeonhold" as just being in the Rolling Stones and this is what he comes out with? He had to be doing massive amounts of drugs to think this is good.
Mick, with this solo project, you made a fool out of yourself; Keith Richards was justified in being upset with you for this. The video was cheesy, and not to the standards we would expect from the leader of The Rolling Stones. Don't ever do something like THIS ever again. OK?
R U kidding me? this shit sucks so bad Kieth must have wanted 2 kill him over it. This just go's 2 show mick can't be a solo artist. Asuch as I love him with the Stones (where he belongs) I loath him 4 making shit like this. Kieth is a much better solo artist than Mick. Mick tries to do pop bullshit and catch up with the young bucks. I dont know why. Stick 2 what u do best, The Stones! Solo artist is just not in the cards 4 Mick. and thank god 4 that!
This is a great song and video with a great message. A lot of people don't realise it, but music is a hard business that takes 100% of your dedication in order to succeed. Of course, there are always flash-in-the-pan artists but for those with any real longevity in the business, they work their asses off to achieve the success they have.
Another good song/video like this is "It's a Long Way to the Top If You Wanna Rock 'n Roll" by AC/DC. Same message and theme, basically.
He deserved to lose royalties for pissing on the Rolling Stones' legacy with this. A song and video combination to make you wish you were Helen Keller.
I remember when this song came out. It was 1987-88, and I was in elementary school.
No, I didn't know who this guy was back then. Also in '87-'88, there was another interesting song called "I Got My Mind Set On You." And no, I didn't know who that singer was. :-)
