  • what is the name of this piece?

  • It's funny to see quite a big arm coming from behind the last kid playing the Red Violin at the monastery. The left hand is a lot bigger compared with his right hand, and you can see him wearing some sort of skin color glove. Perhaps, it is Joshua Bell's arm coming from behind, as we know he made several cameos appearances (as the concertmaster assistant, F. Pope solo with the orchestra, etc.) and recorded the complete violin solos for the movie.

  • I love this sound; it takes me back tot that Baroque era in seconds!

  • this piece just sends shivers down my spine. like, the last 8 measures just make me tingle.

  • damn... nawadays instruments dont last more than 5 years in any type of music institution, the instruments where i study (universidad de guadalajara) are the most pathetic excuse of sound emiting objects ive ever seen :C

  • Great piece

  • Is the movie about the violin?

  • Brilliant Baroque sounding piece of music. I love this movie!!!!!! Why doesn't hollywood do more movies like this.

  • They don't because films like this do not draw hordes of teenagers into the theatre on the opening weekend

  • @bachkirche I think part of the problem is they don't know how to market a movie like this unless it starts to garner serious oscar attention.

  • Can someone with knowledge in classical music please tell me what is the name of the song the boys are playing???

  • @DavidDukeSupporter1 It is apart of the original scoring for the film, as classic as it sounds it was written in modern times by Corigliano

  • Sounds more like Vivaldi because there are very few incidentals

  • In this clip you can see how years pass, how time goes on. The Red Violin is played by choir boys for a hundred years.

The concerto is played by choir boys in 1690s

The concerto is played by choir boys in 1720s

The concerto is played by choir boys in 1740s

The concerto is played by choir boys in 1760s

The concerto is played by choir boys in 1780s

The concerto is played by choir boys in 1795, Kaspar Weiss plays the solo on the Red Violin

  • Hello! this truly is a lovely movie (despite the fact that there are some scenes that aren't for children) might I ask, what is the title of the piece or concerto they are playing?

  • Castalia!

  • Muzyka z duszą , przepiękna :)

  • this more vivaldi than bach

  • finally find this vid!

What a violin! And how amazing are the people who had ever played it!

  • where i can get the free sheet music?

  • Sounds like Bach... anyone knows the piece, song?

  • John Corigliano wrote this as an original piece for the movie.

  • Beautiful music and Beautiful hands of this little child!!! awesome!!!

  • anyone know the name of the song?

  • Not a song, because nobody is singing... its name is "The Monastery"

  • Yeah, sorry about the "song" thing. Any information about the composer? I really apreciate it. Sorry my english.

  • The composer is: John Corigliano.

  • thats Joshua Bell until you se the little boy.

  • Thank you so much for uploading this scene...

It's one of those many perfect ones in that movie, I like the ensemble as much as the solo
