I was diagnosed at the age of 12. I was told I had it since I was 6. I am 44 now and have kept fairly good control of my sugars and so far no complications. It is a bummer to have to live with it but don't let it keep you from doing anything you want to do. I didn't. I have done may things including scuba diving, skydiving and was even a hot air balloon pilot for a little bit. Life is great even as a D.

Hey megan. I know you said to not feel sorry for you, but I do no matter what. I live in Manitoba Canada and my name is Allison. I also have type 1 diabetes. Yeah sure maybe life is harder with it, but im 12 now, i have had diabetes for about 4 years now. Please don't give up, for me, for you and for everyone else. I will be going to the 2009 walk this year. Me, my family and almost all my friends! Stay strong
