I don't understand:

Congress ignores the Constitution as it is. Basically, the document is dead to them. If the states call a convention, what do we lose? There are currently no punishments in the Constitution for a Congress which will not uphold its oaths to support/defend it. A convention could propose amendments which would leave Congress without a leg to stand on.

Oppose the war? Propose to amend article one, section 8 and take away Congress's power to raise armies or form a navy.

Don't like overseas bases which eat-away at our budget? Amend away Congress's power to construct "Forts, Magazines, Arsenals, dock-Yards, and other needful Buildings." (Or at least amend it to only apply to U.S. soil).

We could take away Congress's power "To borrow money on the credit of the United States," which should be imperative given the current state of our nation.

That's the key point - The answer isn't to amend the Constitution. The answer is to start respecting the Constitution.

It's been treated like a dirty rag for the last 100 years. Why don't they try a novel experiment and start doing what it says?

The Founding Fathers knew their economics. They knew the dangers of fiat currency and oversized government. That's why they wrote the use of gold and silver as money into the Constitution and clearly prescribed the powers of the federal government.
