I was privileged to see Miss Horne's show Lady and Her Music in London (three times!) and always had the strange feeling that she was singing this song directly to me. I am sure everyone in the audience felt the same thing. She was magical and so incredibly inspiring. It has brought tears to my eyes reading these comments and seeing that so many people feel the same way about her.

My dad took me and me three siblings to see The Wiz. I had already seen it before with my class but didn't mind seeing it again. I recall my dad saying he only wanted to see the movie because of Lena Horne. She stole the show with that song. My heart is broken over passing. Rest in peace Miss Horne. That was when I first saw and heard of the legendary Lena Horne back in the late 70s. She was a great singer and had a voice of an angel. She tore that song up real good in that film, almost put me to tears aside from Home (which really put me to tears). I will always remember her as the beautiful Glinda, the good witch. Lena Horne is one of my all-time favorite singers, but I gotta say that she kinda went over the top here just a bit. Bordering on kitsch. Whoever staged and designed this number must have been on a heck of an acid trip too, with that bizarre costume and the little babies floating around--- and that didn't help.
