I was privileged to see Miss Horne's show Lady and Her Music in London (three times!) and always had the strange feeling that she was singing this song directly to me. I am sure everyone in the audience felt the same thing. She was magical and so incredibly inspiring. It has brought tears to my eyes reading these comments and seeing that so many people feel the same way about her.
by the way, she sings it even better live: search 'Lena Horne Stormy Weather/If You Believe'
I watch this movie mainly for this part of the movie. Diana Ross's "Home" is the icing on the cake but Ms. Lena Horne sang with such conviction and passion. She truly is an elegant classic legend.
R.I.P. Queen Horne,The Most Graceful,Elegant, and Amazing woman, this world had the great fortune to be blessed with, and one who is the blueprint of what and how a real woman, especially my sisters, should carry themselves, with class, and deep inner and exterior beauty,You don't need excessive cleavage, tattoos, tight fitting clothing,or promisicuous behavior to achieve this,Only to do what she said,"Believe in Yourself"There will be no more like you,Mrs Lena,You will be Missed..
whenever I'm feeling down or blue, I put on my headphones and play this song over and over again until I start to believe. If you really want to hear Lena, get a hold of her 2 album set "LENA THE LADY AND HER MUSIC".The power in which she sings these songs is absolutely amazing. My queen is gone, LONG LIVE THE QUEEN.
Lena certainly sang the @#$% out of that song. She has me holding back tears every time I see this clip from "The Wiz." Diana Ross's "Home" is a close second.
My dad took me and me three siblings to see The Wiz. I had already seen it before with my class but didn't mind seeing it again. I recall my dad saying he only wanted to see the movie because of Lena Horne. She stole the show with that song. My heart is broken over passing. Rest in peace Miss Horne. You are a gem and a class act.
That was when I first saw and heard of the legendary Lena Horne back in the late 70s. She was a great singer and had a voice of an angel. She tore that song up real good in that film, almost put me to tears aside from Home (which really put me to tears). I will always remember her as the beautiful Glinda, the good witch. RIP, Lena Horne, the entertainment icon.
A true diamond from the rough of Brooklyn. God, the world lost such a true, elegant, and talented treasure this year. 92 years of pure majestic class.
I can remember seeing this in the theater the week it opened in 1978. She, Lena Horn was the best thing about the entire movie! RIP Ms. Lena. We love you! God loves you!
What a powerful voice she had, even though she was 62 years old here! A true diva, giant, and talent. You will be missed, Ms. Lena Horne. Redd Foxx is happy to see you now...
RIP Ms. Lena Horne. A true Legend. She went thru the back door so we could go thru the front door. Beautiful and talented. Stage, Screen, TV, Recordings, Civil Rights, Human Rights she did it all. She always said that when she died she was coming back as Tina Turner. She was funny. Another bright shining star has went out on Earth. Lena we love you, thank you, and will miss you.
If I never believed N anything when I saw the Wiz! Mrs. Lena was believe able! I also enjoyed her version of the song believe! with the beautiful babies! Yes Lena I believe between U an Richard Pryor an all the other believe able cast! I now kno Y they called it the Wiz!
I was an ignorant puertorican student going to college in San Diego when I saw this movie, I could not belive my eyes and ears what a beauty what a voice it was the first time in my live I heard or saw Ms Horne I remember I turned in to my college roomates (all americans that knew who Ms Horne was) and I told them she is teaching Diana Ross how to sing. RIP Ms Horne
When Lena sang "If You Believe" in the movie The Wiz, Diana Ross went back and did a few more takes of the song Home. As you could see Lena was a seasoned veteran and Miss Ross knew that she had to bring it! Lena R.I.P. we will miss you.
RIP gorgeous and incredible Lena. 92 is quite a life and look what you blessed us all with! Thank you! Rest peacefully and in joy in God's loving arms <3 We will miss you.

Lena Horne is one of my all-time favorite singers, but I gotta say that she kinda went over the top here just a bit. Bordering on kitsch. Whoever staged and designed this number must have been on a heck of an acid trip too, with that bizarre costume and the little babies floating around--- and that didn't help.
