and yes with the aikido demonstrations they run into their opponent, but they cant do that shit for real, you see if they did there'd be broken bones, people landing on their heads when thrown so they have to flip n all that to land safely, to avoid breaking their necks, MMA guys, aikido does work, just not in MMA, but that wasnt what it was developed for anyway so please respect it as a martial art and dont give it a bad rep
@Brady2k10 It's not that I don't think it can be utiized effectively, just there are about five martial arts I'd rather learn for street defence - namely Muay Thai or Krav Maga. Knowing something like BJJ or dirtier forms of it for if and when the fight goes to the ground (more often does than not). I don't have that much respect for Steven Seagal though. I think he's a self publicising joke that will try his best just to further his failing career by hanging around Silva and Machida actual
@ZeroMalarki err last time i checked seagal was an actor not an MMA fighter so how is he trying to further his career, also it was silva that asked seagal if he could come train with him fora while. I agree with learning muay thai or krav maga for real self defence in street fights, but i still think aikido is effective as well, although i think aikido should be trained better, like they should spar or wear padding and see if they can actually block fast punches and then apply their techniques
the MMA fighters study martial arts, are considered martial artists themselves, aikido is about self defence, and using the element of surprise, you see if you attack someone who knows aikido, you dont expect it, where as if some aikido guy went into MMA the other fighter would know what he'll try to do, since aikido relies on the opponent moving towards them and striking first, it would be no good in MMA, but thats ok, it still works on the streets, MMA fan boys need to realise this

Seagal has too many skills and he is a mixed martial artist in that he is an advanced practitioner of several martial arts: Aikido, Karate, Kung Fu and Filipino Martial Arts (including Kali & Escrima). At the end of the day what I'm saying is that, yes there may be fighters who are better than UFC fighters but they either don't have the balls to adapt their art for the rule system of UFC or can't and prefer to keep either a mystique or a pure form of their art to allow throat strikes, minor joint manipulation, eye gouging etc. The arts you see in UFC though have all of those in their repitoire when they aren't adapted for sport

At the end of the day what I'm saying is that, yes there may be fighters who are better than UFC fighters but they either don't have the balls to adapt their art for the rule system of UFC or can't and prefer to keep either a mystique or a pure form of their art to allow throat strikes, minor joint manipulation, eye gouging etc. The arts you see in UFC though have all of those in their repitoire when they aren't adapted for sport

@ivystonejo He talks like that for the same reason he plays blues music with an all-Black band, and the same reason he makes films with Black sidekicks all the time: because he wants everyone to give him, by some ridiculous extension, street cred.
Back in the 80s, he'd try to pass himself off as Italian-American. Later it was Native. Now it's Black. He's a nut.
