  • I go to this church :)

  • @luffu561 watch the language. Got bless you

  • hmmmmmmmmmmmm

  • It is very nice that the children were allowed into the sanctuary to watch the ceremony up close. No doubt they will always remember the experience.

Greetings to my Coptic Brothers from the Armenian Church!

  • That was beautiful!

I'm a former Catholic who converted to Eastern Orthodoxy last year (I was Chrismated into the Antiochian Orthodox Church Nov. 8, 2009), and saw my first Orthodox Holy Week this year, so I can see a lot of similarities between the way our two Churches honor the Epitaphios (I'm not sure what the appropriate name for the icon is in the Coptic Tradition). It was neat to see the image honored with flowers and spices. God bless!

  • :'( literally every single time I hear this

  • Actually the tune of this hymn was infact an ancient tune used by ancient egyptians for the burial service of a pharaoh, they would sing in this tune when ever a pharaoh or high royalty died. We Copts adapted it from our ancestors for the burial service of Christ our present King.

  • i love this song golghata david ensamble =)

yes nativeegyptian, we copts are egyptians with greek influents in our etnicity and our language, but we are the truly egyptians

  • This song gets me very depressed and sometimes I cry, but I'm not sure why.

  • is this arabic that they are speaking in?

  • technically it is greek but this is how we pray liturgies and other related things, and we pray also in english and arabic

  • Can someone explain this Ritual to me, I am Jewish and unfamiler with this!

  • This is what's called the burial prayer. It's done at the end of Good Friday once a year. This is where we reinact the burial of our Lord Jesus Christ represented with an icon that depicts him after crucifixion, flowers, and different scents. The burial is done on the altar and is left there till midnight on Sat-Sun. as to convey 3 days.

  • @MenechemShaul Once a year on Good Friday the Church reenacts the burial of Jesus. The priests mix a bunch of spices and fragrant perfume and anoint an icon of the burial along with a cross, just like how Mary came to Jesus' to anoint his body (Luke 23:56-24:1) While the priests do this, the deacons sing a hymn called Golgotha which is an ancient hymn people used to sing during the burial of a pharaoh or royalty. This is one of the most important rituals in Christian history. Hope I influenced u

  • @mfy993 Jesus' tomb** (after: Mary came to...)

  • @mfy993 Good Friday goes against Scripture (Daniel 9:24-27 and Matthew 12:38-42)! There were two Sabbaths that week as it was the Feast of unleavened bread! The First Sabbath (Tuesday night through Wednesday night) and Friday Night through Saturday Night (the Biblical Sabbath)! This is not an Important Ritual as we are instructed in 1 Cor. 5:6-8 to Celebrate the Passover and Feast of Unleavened Bread for Messiah our Passover Lamb was Sacrificed for us! Get Biblical!

  • @MenechemShaul in 1 Cor. 5:6-8 unleavened bread is a symbol. unleavened means containing no yeast. yeast is symbolic of sin. therefore, to keep the feast with unleavened bread means keeping it without sin. the old Passover was when God saved the Israelites from pharaoh. the new Passover was when Jesus, God, saved the human race from Satan. so this new Passover is actually called, as we now know it, the Eucharist, where the bread and wine offering become the true Body and Blood Christ

  • @MenechemShaul if you visit a Coptic Orthodox Church just to get a glimpse of this event, i think you'll understand it better. it seems extremely odd at first, i must admit, but believe me, everything makes sense once you believe that "With God, all things are possible" - Mark 10:27

  • @mfy993 Do not twist Scripture! I will say it again do not twist Scripture! You catholics do not know a damn thing! Leaven is related to sin, Yeshua used Matzah, it is that simple!

  • You are right that Roman Catholicism is miles from Orthodoxy. I'm trying to say that this is what is similar to the Eastern Orthodox Church, not Catholicism which is what everyone assumes. Coptics and Eastern Orthodox are really not far from being in Communion again.

  • agreed

  • What about the Council of Chalcedony?

  • People say Roman Catholicism is most similar to Eastern Orthodox....

No way. Roman Catholicism is miles away fron Orthodox christianity.

As a Greek Orthodox I hope that in our days we'll see the Holy Communion back from the same Holy Grail.

    Copts keep your faith.

  • Coptic Orthodox is very similar to Eastern Orthodox, hopefully they will be in Communion again. People say Roman Catholicism is most similar to Eastern Orthodox, but it's actually Coptic.

  • I am a coptic orthodox too and i also know and love this song

  • Coptics are true Egyptians, Muslims are arabs, the word Egypt in English came from Le Qipt (THE COPT)

  • @nativeegyptian acually the coptic word for egypt is nimi so we are nimis :D

  • @xxxpetexx2

No man the coptic word for egypt is Kimi and the egyptian word for it is Kemet :)

we are RemEnKimi = people of egypt :)

  • @nativeegyptian . true & i agree with you but when we enter the church our mother & listen to this and talk to God our Father, heaven-His place- is our country and our nationality. God bless Egypt, the Egyptians and everyone so that they can know God like we do.

  • wow, very nice. i am coptic orthodox so i know the song... i was singing along :)

  • i am moslem, many "weird" ceremony done by Christians make me scary....I am sorry to say that

  • many wierd ceremonies from muslim scare me like Adha sacrifices

  • cutting animals like cows, goats or something to get their meat is normal, every people all the world especially farmers do it..so what weird???

  • Whats wierd is how true Christians all around the world are being persecuted especially our Coptic Brothers and Sisters in Egypt but the muslim persecuters. Maybe if you study our religion and understand our customs just like our ancestors were forced to learn about islam then it wont be scary anymore. As we see on Pascha

    Pi Ichristos Antonf !!

  • i am not from Egypt. I am from southern asian. Copt is what absolutely?

  • no that is incorrect. not all egyptians are copts. muslims originated in arabiaa and then came and migrated in egyypt hence the spread of islam in the country. however those desecndants of the early christians from the see of st mark, those are the copts

  • If you choose to be an Egyptian, you're an Egyptian. No one's more Egyptian than the other.

And believe me, Coptic means Egyptian; If you want me to explain more about the word copt, msg me.

  • Coptic literally does mean Egyptian or From Egypt, but in todays modern society Coptic refers to the Christians who follow the traditions of St. Mark the holy Apostle and Evangelist. So When one says Coptic he refers to the Rich traditions of the St. Marks Christians.

  • chocolato15, who ask you to go to mosque, stupid??

  • are you stupid this is not a mosque it'a church, church of the lord jesus chirst got it:)

  • I AM COPTIC TOO i was replying to someone who said that this scared them and they were muslim so i said their mosque scares me....u people!!!...read the other comments first!!!!!

  • Here is a link to another example of the Great Friday Burial ceremony from another Coptic Orthodox Church. In it, the priests use much more oils/spices/roses to anoint the icon of the burial, but the idea is the same. The video is less choppy.

    youtube dot com/watch?v=G6_5Pkfvumk

  • which burial is it?

  • what are the two priests doing? i dont understand

  • syeevy,

The priests start by mixing spices and oils in a bowl. They then wrap the icon of the burial of Christ with a small wooden cross. These are together anointed with the spices and oils, and then ornamented/anointed with rose petals from the Great Friday service. These are then wrapped in white linen, and then in red velvet.

  • Please be aware of Coptic Zionist imposters who only exist online.

Their main websites "Free Copts forums":

    thecopticflag*com

    freecopts*net

    copticfreedom*com

    coptflag*com

    bigpharaoh*com

They will pose as Coptic christians, Coptic muslims, Arabs, Non Egyptian sympathizers...etc to instigate hate between us & prepare Egypt to be the next Iraq.

  • coptic church is the most great 1

  • beautiful
