I have bought this video for building my first Ar and have found it very informative. It may look primitive, but the information still reigns very true.

List punch sizes please.

Those punches suck, even the steel ones break pretty much right away. ADCO sells a really good punch, nice and short so it won't break.

Tape it up! Cover everything up with nice thick duct tape so you don't marr the finish.

Ack! Don't use duct tape. That will leave some nasty goo on your receiver. I find that masking tape (or better yet, painters tape) works much better.

I wish I would have found this video before I built my AR15 from a kit. I ended up scratching the finish when driving the pin for the bolt catch.

Seems like that's a common problem. Any words of wisdom for a first timer?

Treat it rough, bang it up and splatter some red paint on it. It will look badass and look like it's been in war.

use a vice grip for bolt catch. just squeeze pin in place. No need for a hammer there.
