Yeah you are right about the coffee. In our defense, we have really cut down on coffee, and always make sure that when we do buy it, that it is as sustainable as possible. It was roasted locally though, which cuts down on fuel.
It is better for the environment to buy non-organic produce locally than to buy organic from places like Whole Foods Mkt. But of course you already know that! :D
I am 99% certain that basil was discovered growing along the side of a church - a basilica, thus the name. My point is, I think it prefers shade. I know the leaves burn easily with too much sun. I predict that your basil will grow a lot. : )
