I love mixing reggae its also good for mixin out of dubstep or a dnb set after everyones had a mad skank out its something to get to ladies involved, check my music @ soundcloud(dot)com/dominicbenmore
Producers are real artists, I think you should have worded it differently. Bands are made of humans, whereas producers compose for and manipulate electronics. They may even use guitars and other instruments in their recordings.
house music is one of the easiest music to mix......where im from our soca, dancehall, reggae and chutney music are way harder.......great vid by the way
"My personal opinion about Reggae, its the sort of stuff that you can just really chill out to. It's not sort of chucked out there in your face, it's not look at me i've got big testicles and i'm the baddest bloke going"-Golden
i need help. buying some used decks. is it a good idea to buy them on e bay?big fan please write back? i hurd what ur going threw. stay strong! god bless
its true when i started out a large part of the music i played was with lots of vocal and beats all over the place you really had to know your music inside out
could you mix us some reggae an tecno together , come on an know you can , show your tallent ,..........THINK heavey bass pops , maybe some were in the center you can even work a bit of grung into it
Good stuff, I play reggae (from roots to dancehall) pretty much all the time now, much nicer to chill to than dnb/jungle. Question though, how do you handle tunes where the bpm varies by quite a bit? Even if you're using CDJs with master tempo, a big jump in bpm doesn't sound right. I haven't come up with a good way of doing this consistently. Also with reggae I think being imaginative with transitions is important, like scratching, backspins, or even letting the tune play out.
Damn good video. All the new school djs need to see this being a old school DJ from Chicago that plays disco I love what you said about mixing real music. Keep up the good work.
Your videos are histerical, informative, and just plain interesting.
I remember the old days of music mixing. Nothing stayed the same for more than half a bar. Music beat matching was continuously changed even as you mixed it in. I respect the guys who do this now, but hope we don't forget the old school. There is so much to learn.
Great video man. But Jonathon, you should make a video on how to DJ dancehall/ragga. Dancehall is like the younger, faster brother of raggae and is what is being played mostly in clubs with large populations of carribean people. Cheers
reggaes a tricky decision when it comes to the king yeah bob Marley indisputably the king of reggae but also Winston foster aka king yellowman is another force to be reckoned with when it comes to reggae/dancehall. if you dont know of him or havent heard of him look him up next to bob marley hes probaly the best since well my own opinion anyway but if ur into reggae ad you aint really heard of yellowman uve been missing out or you aint into the music as much as you think you are
Cool Video man :) I want to mix reggae but need a decent set up first! Been using a keyboard and mouse so far, thinking about getting a MIDI Controller to get me going a little more "properly" !
@JPMixes1 if i can give you a bit of advice, i would go straight for a cdj & mixer setup rather than a midi one, because a midi one gives you too much of an excuse not to learn the difficult stuff you will need for real djing.. i know this from personal experience!
Hey, so, I'm going to pm you about this as well but, in case the viewers have a comment...what tips do you have for a bit harder music? I'm a fanatic for industrial tunes, darkwave, ebm and the like. The DJs I've heard spin it, however, more often than not just play tunes back to back. ... Thanks!! Absolutely love your videos!!
@WIKTOR75 Umm Ilike the fact u use the term "KING" which he is.. actually i think he's the real king of dancehall.. not beenie man.. why.. because he open up the gate for dancehall to hit on the international market and to let dancehall music know world wide... he was also the person to itroduce slackness in dancehall music.. not shabba ranks.
ok now ur in my genre, been waiting 2 c u talk about this 4 soo longg , u r soo right its all about the sound n the feel when it comes 2 reggae , i would like u 2 give the world some more on mixin and blending reggae ,its not something u can just jump in2(like ne other genre )it take practice.
good advice about the bpm..i always wondered why some tunes drift or change bpm during the course of a song.also .we call the riddim being played for reggae songs "one drop"..good job pointing that out with the drum & stick..practice & enjoy!.
Nice one j, ive done the same myself for many Years now a well timed 'chop' mix always goes down well, I got my inspiration for listening to jive bunny and the mastermixers and the DMC, no matter how long any Dj has been playing for, you still learn sometime new every day, and still nice to watch others like yourself, to get new ideas to be more creative, keep it up my friend spot on!
I wanna high five you for making this very entertaining and a very fun learning experience but I fear my unworthy palm might taint your almighty hands of divinity.
