  • I own the Dot, perfect for vintage and Beatles' sound.

  • I have that guitar. I play mutch foo fighters. Can anyone Tell Me if the pickups is the right thing for me?

  • its available lefty?

  • Michael J. Fox? :)

  • Marty McFly :D

  • I LOL'd at "McFly".

  • I almost went with that same firebird but in the end traded in a Gibson Explorer look-a-like for a Epiphone Wilshire. My first real good electric guitar is a Ibanez AS-73 artcore semi-hollow and it's beast. It looks real similar to that Dot.

  • Asdfero I find it great that todays epiphones shit all over gibson.

  • For the past 3 to 4 years epiphone has been making top professional quality guitars. There only down fall there Way underpriced.

  • Man, that Epiphone Dot Studio sounds so dirty it could get a part-time gig manning a "Premium Rate Sex Talk Hotline"

  • I found the video description hilarious hahahaha

  • what a nice sound from Epiphone Dot Studio Guitar

  • I am getting the Firebird Studio for Xmas :D i have played the one i have now got for a bit and i think that this guitar is great. It is a top heavy guitar but that only happens if you let go of the guitar. two ways to stop this -hold your guitar properly when standing - buy a strong leather/ supported strap and not a really cheap one!

  • epihone worn dot studio. my baby :')

  • I love the firebird! I've heard that the neck is really heavy, is that true? And if so, is it a big problem or not much of one?

  • Sweet reveiw, and amazing guitars really considering buying the firebird. Perfect for my bluesy hard rock sound. ( woo AC/DC) and love a good bit of foo fighters too

  • McFly. That's funny. McFly of the future. 2007 future. Past for us of course.

  • does this guitar have any dots on the neck sides of orientation of frets?

  • @SammyBeniuga It does have dots on the side.

  • @JWEssinkMusic thank you for your reply i hope you are meaning at the dot studio :) not the firebird

  • yes it has inlays on the side

  • I've had the Dot Studio ES-335 for several years now. It's still my number one guitar even though I own a Strat, Telecaster and Les Paul. I put a Bigsby on this baby and that was just the right final touch. Awesome guitar, awesome price, you will love it.

  • torn between getting this finish or the limited ebony, personally i think the ebony just looks better, but I already have two other black guitars xD (strat and lp)

  • That's fine and dandy...but can you play Johnny B. Goode?

  • @DNKOTOR agreed

  • 4:56 The Epiphone Dot Studio

  • I just fell in love with this arch top

  • is the dot studio a good guitar to play rock and like kind of metal live?

  • @bersk8board Most people would tell you no. However, I've seen the kind of shit you can put these things through and it could probably handle some pretty hairy metal!

  • i'm really curious .... how would this guitar sound playing some surf rock ? anyone know cause it deff has some gain to it. (firebird)

  • @stephenflorenti I did the same cuz I was Gunna buy a casino then the dot but I got the am73b

  • I was gonna buy the dot studio but I pulled out at the last minute and bought an Ibanez as73

  • ME WANT FIREBIRD!! NOW!!

  • Hey man, great video. I love the tunes you were playing, is there tabs for any of them???

  • Great review on both guitars. I have a Dot Studio and is planning on purchasing a second one. They are inexpensive and great playing instruments.

  • how do you guys like the gearless tuners on the firebird? ive heard a lot of people don't like them cause they go out of tune quickly?

  • @SerialJoe1 they are talking about the banjo tuners on the gibson firebirds ... those steinbergers actualy have good stability and have the best tuning ratio on the market; 40 to 1 which means the part that the string is in only move one fortieth as much as the knob and hold tuning pretty well for a few hours of hard playing as compared to grovers (often called the best tuners on the market) which have only 18 to 1 but hold tuning for days ... get a self-lubricating nut for it though

  • @caulinrocker1 Sweet, thanks for the info :]

  • @SerialJoe1 no problem ... if you have any other questions just ask

  • clean tone = a little bit of gain

a little bit of gain = METAL DISTORTION!

  • this dude is a solid player

  • i used to have an epiphone dot studio, it wasnt a very good guitar, at least mine wasnt. That being said, after switching out the pickups and tuners, it became a pretty good guitar. Still, i sold it and got a DeArmond Starfire IV

But I got an epi firebird studio and its AMAZING. I want to refinish it with nitro in an original gibson colour, but that being said, the firebird is impeccably crafted with surprisingly high end components, especially the tuners. Not to mention i only payed 350...

  • I've been thinking about getting the Studio Dot, but then I saw the Dot Royale (which is like $150.00 more) I wondering what the reviews are like on that?

  • @MitcheruUSA62 It's basically the same pickups, but the body is maple, so it's brighter than this one.

  • the firebird solo should be on betch ya cant play this^^ awsome guitar dude

  • he looks like billy-jo armstrong lol

  • I'm buying a dot studio (worn cherry) and I wanna know what are some good strings for a lot of delays (like Angels and Airwaves) and also good for like punk and rock.

I have Elixer nanoweb lights (.10 to .46) on my other Epiphone and they're great, had em on for years but I don't want Elixers on the Dot. I want a different feel that will compliment the hollow body and give me good tone **AND stay in tune

  • @SpitfireZero

Tom uses the Ernie Ball Skinny Top Heavy Bottoms. I use them on my Epiphone. Change strings more often, too. like every 4-5 months defending on how much you play.

  • @SpitfireZero try exps

  • I just can't bring myself to part with my worn brown Dot Studio. Pretty cool guitar.

  • are you using the factory strings?

  • What song is that at 1:58 ?

  • He sounds Canadian.

  • Epiphone Dot at 4:55

  • firebird or dot ?

  • @odiel777 dot !

  • @OverSlyZed why?

  • @odiel777 Well, I have a Dot (not studio) and it's just awesome....the cleans are very bassy and haunting, and with distorsion you can play every style perfectly, no matter it's blues or doom metal...sounds great ;)

  • The neck pickup of the firebird sounds awsome.

  • this is a really great review of both guitars, thanks.

  • The firebird is a great guitar

  • Great Scott Marty!

I never understood the shape of the Firebird.

Big ass fin thing hanging down with nothing but a toggle switch on it... another fin thing on the top that does nothing but get in the way (like the Explorer) ... the controls are bunched together in a tight little square.

The headstock is nice but the rest is a visual nightmare.

They sound great but they are just butt ugly and the satin finish makes it even worse.

It just looks like fucking Gumby to me.

  • Could an "E" pickgaurd be added to this model? As well as a tailpiece...? just wondering, I like to modify...thanks :)

  • All he need is a pictures of the brother fading away on the headstock.

  • whats the riff he does on the fire bird

  • when i first saw him... i thought omG... es marty mc.Fly hahaha!!! I didn't realise that everybody thinks the same... hey doc ... doc!!!

  • I guess you guys aren't ready for that, yet. But your kids are gonna love it.

  • paul from guitar world my arse, its MJ Fox!

  • How tall is this guy

  • II NEED HELP

The selector switch on my Dot is kinda busted. Only the bridge pickup selection works, but the neck and middle selections sometimes don't work. The story is the guitar fell of the strap "face-first" on the floor. But thankfully that's only the damage, but then again I really really want to get back to using the two other selections. If you were a luthier-guitar-repairman-whatever, what would be the best approach for this kind of problem?

  • @ledzeprulz1234 cover it in sperm. that fixes anything. i did to my girlfriend's brake calipers. now it's all good

  • @leddeath80 Really? Thanks! I owe you one bro

  • @ledzeprulz1234 take it to a guitar tecnician

  • @ledzeprulz1234 replace it its and easy fix its i think 2 or 3 solder points and a bout 8 bucks for a new switch

  • It's a question about who is plaing not what is playing

  • @gtnick314 i actually have the same oppinion as that garimpas, today emo-bands use that guitar, along with other faggots. Not that the guitar isn't good, it just went to the wrong hands around

  • This guy reminds me of the lead singer of TEB

  • what amp is he using?, sounds every cheap guitar sounds good thru his amp

  • @theLanguageLab its probably the quality of the video, bit crunchy. i'm pretty sure this guys using top of the range. cause they sound devine on clean

  • @theLanguageLab "cheap" doesnt mean bad...both of these guitars are amazing with amazing sound...the amp wouldn't matter because i've played both of these through multiple amps and they were always a solid guitar

  • @theLanguageLab these guitars actually sound good tho, epiphone is good if it doesnt have a bolt on neck, the bolt on epi's have crappy pickups and hardware

  • @theLanguageLab yeah,sounds almost like fuzzy,doesn´t it?

  • what's so special about this guitar anyway? i think it is for emos

  • imma get that firebird :D

  • whatever amp he's using has a terrible clean setting, because i've played both of these guitars and they don't sound anywhere near as bad clean as they do in this video.

  • @WaxWingsMelt Sounds like a little tooo much gain on the clean channel, especially for a demo....not really doing the guitars justice!

  • @WaxWingsMelt hey I hear the firebird's tner are awful for changing strings? is this true?

  • @Jackalofhighwater well take a look at the reverse headstock.so your hand would be caught up in a twist while turning those knobs so yeah kinda.

  • @Jackalofhighwater On the contrary its easier to. Its a bitch to remove the strings but the restringing is much easier than the standard tuners

  • DO JOHNNY B. GOOD!!! Oh wait your not Michael J. Fox LOL :D

  • they are both absolutely beautiful guitars with their sound and looks. wish i had both of them. i will hopefully be picking up my Worn Cherry Firebird Studio soon and i might keep my eye on the dot studio.

  • that riff with the dot studio was sick.

  • i just ordered the dot!

  • ive just got the firebird today and it is amazing trust me =)

  • i really want the dot studio :)

  • That firebird sounds baaad. Ewww muddier than a rednecks 4x4. Although it did have a nice modern overdrive sound, albeit not my style. Also, how come marty didn't play power of love? haha or johnny b goode? Although the sound on the sound on the Dot neck pup didn't sound bad.

  • REVERSE HEADSTOCK FTW!

  • ibanez AS93 or Epiphone Dot Studio???mmmm....

  • i love that guitar is so cool and excellent job on the song!

  • the amp is too much for the camera's mic. it's distorting

  • sounds great,

but it sounds like my SG.. so no Epi. Firebird for me

  • firebird sweet theycould do a better job on the headstock only thing i dont like

  • what is the song you played on the firebird clean

  • Damn, the pickups on that Dot sound muddy as hell, even considering the slightly dirty clean tone.

  • I've got a Dot Studio, and the Alnico pickups screams as hell!! ;-)

  • to my ears, the clean channel still has some overdrive to it... and the high gain sounds REALLY gained up... sounds like he is using some sort of a pedal

  • is it good to do slash's solos?

  • it seems as though it would be good to play slash's solo because of the overdrive tone he uses. then again he good be using an amazing amp

  • is that epiphone dot studio has 24 frets??

  • @otnika25 no it has 22

  • @acdcgnrledzepp thanks!!! =)

  • @otnika25 wlecome ^^

  • want the firebird!!!!!!

  • i have one

  • want the dot studio!!! always loved that shape and the tone of earlier guitars..

  • awesome guitar...

  • Is this the most horrific looking guitar ever or is it just me?

however, the sound is extremely good. And I guess tone is king.

  • @psygodnp wtf? this is a beauty

  • One thing I don't like about the Epiphone Firebird is the color. Can't it come in more colors, glossier maybe? I'd still buy the worn version though. Sounds great.

  • Also, he's never been one for good clean tones has he? He always has a little grit on there. People still like real clean ya know?! Haha I dunno why I'm complaining so much!

  • Too bad epiphone doesn't make a firebird that's neck through with 3 mini humbuckers. I'm kind of apathetic about the bridge (though I think it'd be more firebird-y if it had the string through bridge) But with full size humbuckers and set neck it's just an SG or Explorer (although better looking clearly!)!

  • played 4 different dot studios today in a store.

all buzzed like hell. little money but a bad epiphone is a BAD guitar in my opinion

  • That's weird, because I've played two from the same store, and neither buzzed. I'm working on getting one, actually. It might be, based on what store you went to, that they've been abused. Most guitar center guitars aren't kept in the pristine condition they want to say they're in. Go to a small dealer. They'll have it in better condition.

  • i really want a firebird

  • Firebird is a great guitar but I had to change out the pickups for some pearly gates, sounds like a beast now.

  • nice guitars. I wanna have a Epiphone Firebird

  • omg

    suck guitars

  • M. .J. Fox rocks that guitar!

    nice playing !

  • Man I traded my korean dot standard for a strat.I miss it.Idk why I fucking did that, the dot was a much better guitar.

  • @getargod24 why so they can sell them for $100 with shitty little pickups that if they sound bad,are hard to find replacements for?

  • What kind of distortion are you using?

  • "how Big and Woody" :)

  • @id5596 so youre dicks made of wood?

  • @CHICKMAGNET66666 Does it sound like I'm insinuating something sexually orientated ? I think not.

  • ...please dont give me that shit

  • well you started "that shit", buddy.

  • safruik : Well, I have a dot studio and I play thru an Vox Ad50. It is a great guitar with a good price, I'm not a fan of line 6, but the spider is a similar of the AD amps from vox. I think you can get a great sound but is a small amp you can get more from this guitar. It sounds very close to an gibson with valve amps. take a look at this video this guy have a Spider II and talent, should sound closer to your amp. Srry for my english...

  • im thinking of getting the epiphone dot studio. i need some advice i have a line 6 spider iv 15w at the moment how would it sound?

  • I wanna know how he got this job!

me want some of this :D

  • must be a fun job

  • @MrWhositMagig hell yeah dude. dream job right there. think you need a college degree for that? haha

  • is that just the worn brown finish? or the satin black. I can't tell....

  • worn brown....

  • All GW's guitars sound great cause they're playing them through 2k's worth of rig!

  • All of GW's guitars sound great because they're being played by talented guitarists.

  • That also helps

  • is this firebird better or as good as a maxican fender strat? because ive only play a strat but i dont know which one to get?

  • It's hard to say, it depends on it, if you like more sound of single coil or humbucker pickups

  • does anybody know the difference between the dot studio and the normal epiphone dot besides the looks? What are the differences in sound?

  • I dont know the difference but I own a es-335 dot archtop and I tried the studio in the store as well and the es-335 archtop sounded a lot better than the studio.

  • The Dot Studio only has a single volume and tone control as opposed to two on the standard Dot, and it uses Alnico V classic humbuckers which are also different than its standard sibling. The Alnico V's are a bit hotter and more aggressive. The Studio is more of a rock machine as opposed to the more Jazz flavor of the Dot Archtop.

  • i'm so pissed off - my favourite guitar in the world is a firebird, but they don't make it left handed for epiphone

    :( i'm soo annoyed

  • you know you can restring it to be a lefty guitar i know a few people who have done the same thing

  • save up a few hundred dollars, get it to a guitar builder and let it make a switch (don´t know if that could really work, just ask, Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain did that with some Strats)

  • buy a non reverse firebird and restring it

  • left handers rock!!!!!!!

  • David Cook plays a gibson firebird restrung to play left handed

  • fuck that guy

  • This video made me love the firebird. Good job.

  • what amp is he using

  • Holy fuck. I just must have one of those Firebirds.

  • i cant w8 to get my firbird it just looks awsome

  • that dot studio is lovely.

  • GET A TUBE AMP.

  • it is a tube amp

  • anyone know any place online to get this firebird cause where I'm looking it has lines instead of that finish.

  • would the epiphone worn fire bird studio be suitable for a beginner?

  • Why not? you only should get things that are comfortable for you and look good too.

  • ok thankz

  • its suitable for anyone who doesn't have 1200 for a gibson. If your willing to pay the 400 its fine for everyone.

  • Comment removed

  • does anyone know what amp hes using? cause im getting the dot studio and i want it to sound similar.

  • since there arnt fret inlays, are there any on the top of the neck? respond
