@AlmightyKush666 not really. every dental practice is so different. Learn the basics, get your x-ray certification and intern. If you like it you can excel at it as much as you like.
@terriemj63 uhm actually community colleges are the way to go if you cannot get into a university. Your credits transfer easily and remain good for years and can help you get into a university.
@ilikechickenmorethan dental assisting is really fast you have to be able to expect what comes next. You have to pass instruments and suction and really know the instruments and know what the dentist is doing. It is a lot of science.
When you are in your first DA job the first few months can be very hard but eventually becomes easy once you learn to anticipate what the dentist you work for will do next. You are kept on your toes abit as a DA. I am a DA in New Zealand though and I think we have alot less responsibilities than the dental assistants in America. We do not need a certificate to start out or even high school graduation. I did a course myself and found that it really didn't help at all compared to on sight training
@steveyk yes but it is better to have the knowledge it requires a lot of science and stuff. People like to hire people that want to be in the dental field and have dental assisting experience not someone that just has a high school deploma. It looks better on a resume.
Ok - question. Are you an educator, a dental professional, or the general public??
I COMPLETELY agree with your statement that high cost doesn't make it a better program. My problem is with the quality of the program itself. Thats my beef with the junior college programs. They are not or lets say - the majority of them are not quality focused. Ask any dentist on any corner in anywhere USA and they will say the same thing. (unless - YOU are the DDS teaching it) LOL!
@terriemj63 - I'm not a dental professional or in the field, however, there are a lot of complaints about those private overly priced For-profit tech schools at consumer sites such as rip off report or complaints board. A junior college is even more expensive than a community college, but as long as the program for dental assistant is acredited by the "american dental association" the community college or county vocational school should be all right.
@terriemj63 - Talk about overreacting :) Just because a school is pricey doesn't make the education better. There is NOTHING wrong with community colleges. Each school may have their own problems or faults, however, the more affordable schools do not have a stigma.
@omgbek do dental assistant make good money n wat kind of specialties can u do also is it hard to find a job like right after ur done with school plss let me no thanx
@gymboy19 - DAs can make okay money. Specialties include orthodontics (orthodontic assistant) though I'm not sure that there are too many jobs. The Occupational Outlook Handbook has more information. With schooling, please forgo those private overpriced for-profit tech schools and instead consider the more affordable **county vo-tech school or community college** as long as the program is accredited within the industry. The 'american dental association' should have more info, too.
I feel persons interested in the field should definitely attend courses to become a real asset to any dental team & the dental field. & YES! BOYS CAN ALSO BE DA's!
To become a Registered/Certified DA, go through your state's Dental Board and find out whether you qualify to take the written & practical exam. All certs. must be sent to the Dental Board to perform the duties of the RDA/CDA and the EF's. i.e. your Coronal Polishing lic., P&F Sealant cert, etc. Hope that helps! SMILE! =D
I'm a DA Instructor in California. In the USA, each state has different regs for the entry-level DA. Research your state's Dental Board. In the USA YOU DON'T NEED to take a DA course! Although it's extremely hard to find a dentist that is willing to train someone with ZERO dental knowledge, if you get passed that you're also limited in the duties normally delegated to a DA. i.e. to take x-rays you must have an x-ray cert. So SOME courses ARE needed to perform all DA functions.
Yes! I am a Dental Assistant.. in the United States Navy.. it's awesome.. planning to become either an EFDA/Hygienist.. or probably continue to become a dentist.. :)
you really shouldn't be telling people false information. you do have to take a course. dentists wont hire just anyone off the street in Canada and America. you actually have to spend the money and go to school to get an education.
It varies state to state what dentist can delegate to their assistants. So, they may hire someone with no experience and then send them for their RDH and E.F certificate after they have worked under the dentist supervision for a certain amount of time.
You should check it out for yourself. I agree she did make it sound like it was a piece of cake to become a DA, and it probably got you upset, especially if you and paid a lot to become a CDA.
ACTUALLY in Canada you have to be licensed. we dont have states here and you have to go to school to actually work as a cda. if you work without a license here its malpractice and you can be sued because you have to go to school to get a license here. so the course in Canada is approx. 10 months-1 year depending on the province.
okay.. well im assuming you don't live in Canada or America.. to be a Certified/Licensed/Registered Dental Assistant you must take a course and write a national board exam. so you really arn't a dental assistant at all. like you must not know alot about all the different oral conditions, diseases, materials, etc..

Fa2luvzDrake49528 9 months ago
@Fa2luvzDrake49528 dental assistants usually start at 10$ an hour and you have to have a high school deploma and be a certified dental assistant.

I'll be graduating soon as a Dental Assistant.
I'm glad I went into the dentistry field. The pay is great.
The skills you learn throughout the course are quite awesome.
And, Medical Assistant don't make as much as a Dental Assistant.
I guess DA's get pay more simply because you're more at risk for
exposure of any soft of illness, and we're dealing with semi-surgical procedures.
