That is used when landing without a gear or a partly failed one. Also on offside landing(field landing) or ditching, but not when landing completely normal. It would scare the passengers unnecessarily.
Hmmm...if I ever get diverted because of an accident again, I want Jamika too.
It was a tail-strike on takeoff, the pilot continued but cut the route short...he was supposed to go to EDDT(Berlin Tegel), but landed at the second stop LOWW first, because of engine troubles. It was a MD11 and the middle one failed 3 hours in to the flight.
Cool thing you got it on tape...is there a fire somewhere in the wing, or were is the smoke coming from?

..But I don't blame you! lol. I hate the clapping part too hahaha
@MKhsv I meant that americans typically do it, but yeah its also in europe. Luckily the last I flew it didnt happen, thank god. Hope it doesnt in a few weeks
Ha, I remember arriving at Sangster Airport to go back to the UK and litre bottle of smirnoff was $10!!!! thats £5! At my local supermarket it was £13- $27 me and my partner were so happy we could have shit rainbows! Yeah Mon :)
Once my friends had a whip round for the pilot during our flight to Alicante in Spain, after we give the £24.60 to the captain he went on the intercom to thank everyone for their kindness and that it was only fitting to donate it to charity...I was on a stag party...boys do silly things on stag parties ;)
You clap to thank the pilot for its job. If you cant bring it up to simply clap with your hands, why dont you do it yourself.
And if you ask: why dont people clap when I do my job. This is beacause with a average job you dont have 150 lives laying in your hands. But these guys do, and you can just thank them for keeping you alive.
I really hate pepple that clap after every landing. Flying is safer than driving a car these days, since pilots are highly trained and have often been in the Air Force.
So why don't they clap everytime they have driven their car?
it is because any one over the age of 16 can drive a car... and you need long and very intense training to become a pilot. As for the clapping is in part a tradition (why do students wear gowns on graduation?) and in part just a way to say thank you to the pilots for getting everyone to the destination safely...
Why did you basicly repeat the first sentance i just said?
People that clap are really gay and just scared of flying. I bet most of them lack intelligence, not knowing how a comercial plane works. Those are also the first that paic if something goes wrong. I am trying to make a point and you are just explaining as if i didn't know....
And in Europe we don't have that graduation tradition
Would you clap everytime Michael Scchumacher would give you a lift home?
@FIGHTTHECABLE I agree - people who clap after a flight are retarded. Jesus Christ - this isn't Westside Story - we're on a fucking airplane. Planes land thousands of time a day and people act like it's the Wright brothers flying in to Kitty Hawk.
That is a Boeing 757-200 w/o winglets. I'd be willing to bet that it was some sort of hydraulic problem. You can hear the hydraulic pumps making an abnormally loud whining sound for that type of aircraft on the taxi in. Also, that wasn't smoke coming from the wing, it was a smudge on the inside of the window from somebody's greasy head.
I hate all these assholes who clap while a multi-ton vehicle traveling at at least 160 MPH is still moving............still alot of time for a fuck up

Looks like a Boeing 757-200 without winglets. Seating is 3x3, so it can't be a wide-body jet like a 767, 747, or 777, all of which host a middle section of seating. As for the failure, it appears to have been mechanical as announced over the PA.
@814667 It's an emergency because the flight was from Delta to Atlanta (in description) but obviously something happened which forced it to land in Jamaica - maybe the pilot needed to pick up some more ganji wanji or something
@yoyoyoyoshua not all the time. Ive only seen people clap when theres been bad weather or heavy turbulence on landing. The pilot has just successfully completed a difficult task in which your life is in his hands. He deserves a round of applause
Yeah pointless to clap. People do it before they know that there actually safe. Look at the Air France flight that crashed in Toronto they all thought it was all good and clapped then flew off the end of the runway.
@bryansouza Im a young pilot aspiring for airlines... Im from Puerto Rico and people clap here as well. As a PIC, i would feel honored to be clapped at after all the sacrifices I have done to realize my dream and having the privilege of uniting people through my dream.
@bryansouza the title says it was an emergency landing. While it might not have been an extremely dangerous landing the fact that something went wrong and the pilot had to land somewhere else is still kinda terrifying.

I have travelled a lot in my life & it is the Americans who clap, who knows why? Maybe there have been so many crashes in U.S. aviation history, that people feel thankful because it was not them this time or whatever! Whenever I travel in the U.S. by air & hear the clapping, I feel embarrassed for the pilot, it must be very patronizing for him or her. It's like "well done mate, you didn't kill us"
@civicdriving what air do u fly for in the US I fly all the time in the US and I've never heard anyone clap. and it's just the white people who clap knowone else does.
I feel sad for pilot on worldwide tracks, when ppl don't clap for his work.
Just US and Russia passengers are happy and greatful and wants to share it woth pilot, and be sure, our (russian) pilots, enjoy it very much. Think America's pilots the same.
@belkaUletyaga you Russians are everywhere, just got back from Egypt and there are sooo many of them there, and so rude and ignorant, maybe that's why I will never go back there again mainly because of the Russians.
@civicdriving maybe they're just trying to be nice, and it's their way of saying "thank you" for such a good job? Obviously all 200 passengers can't go up and personally thank the guy. Is being friendly a strange concept to you?
@civicdriving Well I'm an American and it started almost immediately after 3,000 people died on September 11th. Sorry for embarrassing you and the pilot, we're just thankful every time something like that doesn't happen. I guess we just take less things for granted, jackass.
@bryansouza i love when people try claping, because this pilot, copilot, and all the crew, did some hard work over there in that plane, and thats why they clap. you go work like 13 hours in straight time, i bet you will go freaking die
@dutchbhproduction My brother works as a Virgin Train Driver, I would like to see the customers of Virgin Trains give him some recognition once in a while, think of other occupations before you try and make a point like that. He works similar hours to that of a pilot as well.
@xagredo66 It would Help if you said in the video Description Flight to Atlanta FROM.....???? I mean How did you end up in Jamaica? You were coming from europe? or where?
I got so caught-up in the anger management issues of "meccaturbo" that I'd almost forgotten about the video. Nice clip and all seemed to have dealt with adversity well. Sure, a flat isn't in the top-5 of 'Worst Things That Can Happen On Approach' but most passengers don't know that so they were just fine with the applause. Anytime you go from 0mph to 500mph and back to 0mph isn't the worst things you could clap for. As for "meccaturbo"; the screw is wrenched pretty tightly, it seems.
I would clap too if I landed in Jamaica

@civicdriving in Russia it's the same
I feel sad for pilot on worldwide tracks, when ppl don't clap for his work.
