I use iptables to protect my SSH servers from bruteforce attacks. Use proxy server to monitor incoming outgoing information. The proxy server tells me whats happening then I do a DNS to IP lookup and block the connection from Iptables from comming in and going out. Awesome solution right there .. I love it!
iptables for Linux can protect an entire network seamlessly.. Highly customizable and I use it for my linux machines and windows machines.. Its wonderful :)
@lockergnome try avs4you firewall it works great for me but it even deleted my viruses :D its free and used on all windows OS'es it has a optional regristry cleaner also the viruses where hiding in my internet explorer or example so it took me about 4 clickss of my touchpad it really helped me. :D
ZoneAlarm and Comodo are the top.Comodo is more annoying when you are doing basic stuff on your PC.ZoneAlarm alerts you when there really a suspicious behavior but hogs more memory. You choose what meets your needs.
Just a quick note. The firewall that comes free with Windows does not count, it is so easy to manipulate that it doesn't deserve to be called a firewall. I've seen programs that can add themselves to the Windows firewall "Allow" list.
Cisco support has gone down the tubes. I remember calling sales and getting someone who actually could help. Now They are refusing to support Vista with my non-asa Pix firewall VPN client, I need remote logon for my domain. (SBL) They did everything (including blaming Micrsoft) not to fix my problem. I would expect more out of Cisco then to make a client that only Half works for vista. No plans to make it right, very lame....
What are you talking about? Zone alarm is a firewall which isn't particularly effective. AVG is an antivirus and its firewall (bundled in with the comercial products) is hopeless in independent tests. Also Windows Defender is an antispyware not a firewall.
Comodo.. The best firewall?! It got apalling memory management thats noticable on many home user machines. High end PC's with loads of memory would notice the performance drop less.
Nooooooooooooo Comodo sucks ass, i tried it, it was IMPOSSIBLE for me to register the software, even with support over there forums. They just shrugged and said "i dunno". Terrible support on the software! I spent 1 week trying to get it to work......
hey i love the info i get from you in every single video chirs! many thanks! Would you be able to give me your opinion on the firewall for windows called Kerio Firewall . thanks.
XP PRO SP2 Firewall works great together with a good Router Firewall you have all the security you'll ever need ... Anti Virus ?? why use one if you know where the real threat lies, YOU.
there is no safe digital surfing unless you are reffering to either enrypting data by various methods of authentication (WEP, WPA-PSK, WPA/WPA2) using a hardware router Firewaall or go one step further and install a Firewall Linux PC server ...

Comodo Internet Security free (now called Premium - they really like to promote the free products) is actually free for enterprise.
