Unreasonable criticism in this video. i'm not angry at whoever made it or going to slag them off. Just some questionable reading of a game and defensive structures. I am a pro rugby player, I highly doubt whoever made this is. Michalak is one of the most gifted players of his generation.

The video was clearly made with an agenda against the player in mind. Half the points in defense you pull him up ' doing nothing' he's doing what he should be doing tracking back, or holding his poosition in the line. It's a sourthern hemisphere trait for people to pile into a tackle once it's taken place but if it's allrady going to ground taken your position as the 1st defender to either side is the right thing to do, a situation you penalise him for 'leaning on and spliting off.

Michalak started to be famous in france during the WC 2003, but during the semi-final vs england, Wilkinson teached him rugby, and after this day, he has lost a little bit of his rugby. Don't call the poster a loser because he cares about his team - might even be Barritt himself. A great expose of a shitebag fly half crapping out of tackles when it's a tight game. It's also a good rugby video from an educational perspective. O'Gara only steps aside when his team is either winning comfortably or is getting humped - which is fair enuff. But when it's all square and all to play for no player 1-15 should be looking to avoid contact, and that goes for any level of rugby.

I understand running from depth and using pace on the ball + a well chosen angle to create space for others or a line break.

I also understand that modern rugby at the highest level (not club rugby), has sacrificed depth for playing on gain line at the highest tempo possible, recycling the ball quickly often through offloads. This is because of highly effective modern defencive structures.

All that is ignoring the fact, that Fred infact never 'run something in the next play' during this match.

It's not about 'being a pussy', or being small. It's just about getting over the gain line and making defenders commit to you. He did neither in these situations and put immense pressure on those he passed to. Shane Willaims manages it, Breyton Paulse did when he was playing also.

The Sharks flyhalf has had an armchair ride every match up the Tahs match, 10 rounds. They've never been out of the top 4, it's been controlled disciplined rugby most of the season, not headless chickens. Don't want 'wonders' just the basics done well. He was starting to play better but is injured and finished at the Sharks now, never really got full value from him tbh.

He improved against the Highlanders the week after, was hard not to! Has a low work rate at times, when he puts his body on the line he's much better. This was probably his worst match so far, he seemed scared. The hype about him is just way over the top.
