In 1970, The Purple People Bridge belonged to the L & N railroad. Trains form the Penn Central also crossed the bridge. It also had a road crossing on one side as well and the center for the bridge for foot traffic. Rail Traffic over the bridge ceased in 1987 with the road traffic soon to follow due to the age of the bridge. I believe it was built in the early 1880's, but don't take my word on that.
The People Purple Bridge was the L&N railroad bridge, it held a single line across the Ohio River. The tracks were removed in the 1985's. The web site Railroads of Cincinnati has some good pictures of the bridge, look under CSX and L&N Wilder Main.
#1 is downtown Dayton showing the Kettering Tower being built. #2 is Riverfront Stadium from Columbisa Parkway. #9 is the Public Landing just below where Riverfront Coliseum would be built in 1975.
#4 are Columbia Parkway headed east out of downtown. #4 shows the off ramp towards Mt. Adams and Eden Park. #5 is looking over the river from that same offramp. #3 is also Columbia Parkway / Ft. Washington Way headed towards #4 the last building in that shot still stands just before the entrance to I471 south into KY.
#1 is Dayton. Appears to be travelling eastbound on US 35, looking out the driver's side to the north as you pass over I75 and passing downtown Dayton. #2 I believe would be west bound on Fort Washington way, the stadium was then called Riverfront (always Riverfront to me, I refused to call it Cinergy Field) #5 I believe would be Columbia Parkway eastbound, just east of downtown Cincinnati
#1 is definitely Dayton, probably around the I-75 Rt 35 interchange....#5 is going up Martin drive off Columbia Parkway (eastbound) to Mt. Adams; the railroad cars at the end are in the former PRR/L&N RR Oasis interchange yard - now a city park with one seldom-used track.
Yeah, #6 sure does look like Hatch, given the houses, the street sign that briefly pops into the frame on the right (Belvedere? Fuller?) and Kentucky in the distance. (I worked nearby and lived on Hatch over 30 years ago!)
@blgjaa Yes, I've recently looked on Google 'views' and, although the 'look' and 'perspective' are very different (probably due to focal length and colour), the same houses can be seen
Yes, thanks. And it would seem (from Google maps) that the junction of I-75 and I-71 at that point is probably much more complicated now than it was in 1970 (?). It's hard for me (here in the UK) to assess - particularly as, in Google views, the link from I-75(S) to 2nd St is the only part of the junction that doesn't have any 'view'.
@joeywitt I wonder what ever happened to the Chaperon? I have a little more footage of the Majestic, but it doesn't show anything different (closer view of boat and grainy view of 'Pal Joey' on stage)
@eddieboyes strange?! In 1906, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers built the Green River Lock and Dam 6, just downstream from Kentucky’s Mammoth Cave. Chaperon was the first boat of its kind to pass through the new locks. In addition to hauling cargo, she ran sightseeing excursions between Bowling Green and Mammoth Cave during the summer months. Sold just before WWI, Chaperon sailed the Tallahatchie River until fire destroyed her in 1922.
#1 is Dayton. It may look different because in 1970 they were just building the kettering tower so it looks wierd. But I know for a fact that's Dayton.

Many thanks harley1450cc. I think I'm only missing scene #1 now. This seems to be Dayton, but it's not clear to me where the picture was taken from.
