there really is no other than Porsche......my dad has a Carrera 4 and man that thing is amazing....(lets me drive it every now and then).......yes you will not always get the admiring looks when you are next to a Ferrari or a Lamborghini but guess what ...thats why i love it sooo much...its different..its not the typical mid engined European.......its a rear engined monster and now an icon
@cardude1992 It costs more than 200.000 here in my country ......and it's the price without any other options on the car !! Still, many people here think it's worth the price and it definitely is.
brake and downshift early for the corner, then early throttle as soon as hit the apex and use the superior rear engine rear drive grip to get you out the corner. That's how you're spose to drive a 911
@Corvette90100 Wrong. The Beetle looks like the 911. They took the look originally from Porsche. We're just so used to seeing those common Beetles go by with their 4 cylinder engines and girlish styling. The original 911 looked similar to the one in this video and that was over 40 years ago. It can't possibly change nor should it.
@Atzold1 the proper name for the vehicle is the Porsche Carerra 911 Turbo. carerra- spanish for race, 911- the model number ( orig. suppose to be the 901 but some shitty french company had the rights to the x0x model designation0 and Turbo- it has two big hair dryers. Before you insult someone make sure you are not insulting you own intelligence or lack there of
@PorschephileMotronic NO FALSE!!! "911 Turbo" is the name of the 911, which has two Turbo...A "911 Carrera" NEVER!!! has a Turbo... Ein "911 Carrera" hat NIEMALS einen Turbo!! Auch ein "GT3" hat NIEMALS einen Turbo. Nur der "911 Turbo" und der "GT2" haben Turbolader!!! Models from Porsche "911" WITHOUT Turbo: -911 Carrera (S) -911 GT3 with (2) Turbo: - 911 Turbo - 911 GT2 PS: I am Mechanic by Porsche in Zuffenhausen, so i know what i am talking about.
Porsche is genius. Irrestible status symbol. Sexy Body. And even if you buy the son of a bitch right off the showroom floor, 6 months later they release a porsche that pisses on your old one. Hahah brilliant
I've taken a drive in this PDK Carrera S, my colleague owned it, the quality is soooo solid. and anyone who thinks 385 horsepower is not enough, should really consider a test drive. Superb car.
can anyone tell me why porsches are so underpowered?? you would think with their superior engineering as well as their healthy price tag that you would get more horses.
@SeEsAw121221 Their performance is great; however, to me they seem to be a bit underpowered when compared to other super cars. They remind me of the old school ducatis (pre 1098); beautiful, well made, perfectly balanced machines...just underpowered thats all
PDK is just another trendy manu-matic that you'll have to learn how to use and keep maintained at quite a cost if you buy this generation Porsche. Stick with a classic manual. It'll keep granny out from behind the wheel and they're easier to maintain.
@Tweaks2500 Do it. I have a guardsmen red 08 Cabrio S and it is absolutely fantastic. Try to find one with the adaptive sport seats they are worth the money.
Drove one today, a 4s PDK man that car is "just sick" me and the salesman were just laughing over the power this car has took it to 83mph in like 5sec. alot of power but i still like my manuel its just fun to drive where as the pdk is about big power. ....it's still sick!
911 is not a comfortable car for tall people 6 foot 1 or taller.Lamborghini gallardo and ferrari 430f are the best in that department and every other!
911s are beautiful and sexy, you could have a C2S under 80k GBP with a bunch of options, it definitely isn't cheap, but comparing with V8 vantage and M6,even R8, it is a bargain.
911 are very expensive when they have exactly 0 miles on them. Put a couple of thousand miles, their values drop. I reckon to buy a used 911 with like 10k or less miles. That will save about $10-20k.

Is there a hard-top version of the latest Boxter models? If not, then I have to go for the Cayman, which is about 30K USD more expensive in my overtaxed country
For some reason, I can only be satisfied with a Porsche. When below 13 I loved Porsche then liked other cars, and back to Porsche again no matter how many cars I looked at and strived hard to lable it 'cool'.
For me, they seem to live up to their "Porsche, there is no substitute" phrase.
well i guess you are right... after 6 years the bmw will be just an old z4, and the porsche will always be the same you know what i mean??? it has never changed in 50 years (well of course actualizations etc) or maybe you can try a SL mercedes
i have an 06 and i want an 09,,, yes, I want it instead of an R8 or M3. You can't match the Porsche road feel, styling, daily driver and cache, It really has it all...until you can afford a Ferrari... then maybe... but 911 is the understated super car. M3 is so Camry.
How could you call the M3 a camry compared to the Porsche. I mean I am a die hard Porsche fan but for the value a BMW M3 is way better than the Porsche Carrera S. More horsepower better weight distribution. The porsche's engine is in the back which means the center of gravity is placed in the back. Try to make a high speed U-Turn.
good points... you're right. i would say the intangible for porsche is the road feel and how it feels to stay low to the ground with all that power... i tested BMW's and they do everything great, but lack the race car feel. but i agree with your points.
Well, the BMW M3 most definitely has a disadvantage to the Porsche because Porsche had 50 years to improve on their 911 series and that is why they are known for there brakes, engine, reliability, and a car with the best driving feel.
@23GrandMasterK No, I raced one a few months ago and we were dead even off the line... but taking the porsche through windy roads and turns... it has great road feel that i doubt you can get in a Bimmer. But it costs much more so it is different.
OK, to the "Porsche and BMW Club" Guy that own´s a 25 year old 4 Zylinder....
The next Carrera will definetly have a flat six, whoever at "Porsche" secretly told you something else is simply wrong. And those engine problems of the 996/986 have nothing to do with watercooling, just with the new engine block and crankshaft that was introduced with those modells. Would have happend also if they have been aircooled.
That's part of the reliability of the 911. The water cooling equation is out so the engine is simpler and more reliable. Most engine problems come from the gasket due to watercooling.
I would love to see a mid engined 911 but it would have to be watercooled.
I see many 996 engines swapped, many by factory recall. Seems 996 with miles worth about $20k max. to those they know about the problems. Don't drive a 993 on highway and oil cokes hot and gunks engine, unspent fuel coats valves etc, like a RX7TT turbo w/o timer added to cool off becomes trashed turbos and seals kill engine. Low mile 993 driven in city is recipe for engine rebuild. 993 made for highway folks, not a city car.
I checked out the local pricing on the 2009 Porsche 911 Carrera S in my area (Long Beach)... Circle Porsche has them going for $95,200.. I thought that was pretty good considering that it's fairly rare that you see a brand new Porsche for under 100K!
great gearbox and technology but still needs improvement.. its not the best thing to use! a regular 6 speed H gate shifter would always feel top notch!
Suhaas307...I agree with you about prefering a manual gearbox. It is definitely more engaging. The only problem I see is that these new dual clutch transmissions move through the gears faster than even a professional driver. That's why these automatics are faster to 60 and faster in the 1/4 mile compared to their manual couterparts. Basically, it's a trade-off either way.
its great! its fastand quite accurate but somehow doesn't feel intuitive and involving enough.. great technology though.. and somehow i love that porsche racing green.. i was never a fan of green on cars except on Jags but this colour looks great.. reminds me of the older 993 air cooled 911..

That revised '99 996 dash is weak sauce.
R8 got 997TT on interior for sure.
The 370z at autoshow, has alcantara and sweet gauges, it blew away Box and Cayman non S. I was shocked. Porsche is slipping on int since 1998, maybe 993's were the last "Real" 911 ?
Rumor mill is that 911 is done, AG has exhausted their talent from 6cy. Hint, look for baby Carrera GT mid eng in few years. And front eng v10 & V8 Panamera coupe.
Last of 911 we are looking at, sad the Int. is 2nd to Nissan

@MrYougotjohn Holy shite. This is what I exactly think. Some people might say R8 looks better but considered everything, 911 hands down.

@MrYougotjohn Have you driven an M3?
23GrandMasterK 1 year ago
@23GrandMasterK No, I raced one a few months ago and we were dead even off the line... but taking the porsche through windy roads and turns... it has great road feel that i doubt you can get in a Bimmer. But it costs much more so it is different.

911 is faster, but i like audi r8 better!
kenpec 2 years ago
i think i'd pick the 911 because it's a bit more practical i guess but the audi is WAY preetier

Porsche Club...yeah!

Damn 100k though? A used 997 Turbo will run less!

Find me one. Doubt you will...

You knew 911 would go water cooled in 1999 ? How many years before did you foretell that one ?
911 S changed complete engine 4X since 2000. 3.4L, 3.6L, 3.8L, then Direct Injection. The rear eng is not for long sadly.

what do u say about the new 998 they are testing. that' rear engined

I checked out the local pricing on the 2009 Porsche 911 Carrera S in my area (Long Beach)... Circle Porsche has them going for $95,200.. I thought that was pretty good considering that it's fairly rare that you see a brand new Porsche for under 100K!
autofusion333 2 years ago
1998 C2S was $75k. Today used is $40k.

great gearbox and technology but still needs improvement.. its not the best thing to use! a regular 6 speed H gate shifter would always feel top notch!
suhaas307 2 years ago

This comment has received too many negative votes show
That revised '99 996 dash is weak sauce.

Porsche Tech of America told me 2yrs ago 911 line is done, Leman's commentators hinted that 3.8L is biggest Porsche will go in 911, next will be V8.
This is the last of flat 6 911, enjoy it .
You drive Porsche ?
You pretending to be smart or just smart ass ?
euro944t 2 years ago
mayb the flat 6 but not the carrera. it's their main car
