Association Football was first organized into leagues in the 1800s in England, so if Americans, Canadians, Austrailians, and some South Africans call the game "soccer", it's because we were taught so by the British. The two names were interchangeable in England until the 1970s when it began being universally called "Football." By that time these other countries already had sports named Football and we weren't going to change those names because some want to be linguistically schizophrenic.
its fuuny how americans say football is boring yet they play a much more boring version of rugby in american football where they decide to stop for 5 minutes after every tackle and they also play baseball where they dont even hit the ball for 10 minutes at a time lol
It would be a lot easier if Americans could just call it handegg and football... Like it's supposed to be. There is no foot nor a ball in American Football..
@sh0werp0wer Well American Football is derivative from Rugby (Football) which are both derivative from an earlier build of football/soccer. I hear it was originally called Grid Iron Football but for whatever reason they dropped the first part. To make things more confusing there's also Canadian (American) Football.
I personally wouldn't really like it if it was called handegg, but mainly just because from what Ive seen it seems to be a derogatory joke by Brits to call it "handegg".
@jajerome2011 Did i say i gave a shit? You come from a different country to me and also a different culture. You already have a sport called 'Football' so obviously you're going to call it something else. I have my own opinion of American football, as in I havn't a clue what the hell happens and personally i prefer our 'Football'. Anyhow, i was just saying that your statement was incorrect as we dont call it a water closet. You stick to your sports I'll stick to mine :D
@partiescherry not necessarily you, but i wish British people didnt always "look" for a reason to hate Americans (dont get me wrong you dont have to look far)
But make fun of our obese kids and McDonalds food chains. stuff that matters. Make fun of our idiot socialist president or our racist south, but something like calling a sport a different name..thats not important really. We have disgusting, greedy, wealthy fat cats who spit on the poor, make fun of Americans for that! (yes im american)
ehm.. u know "real football" is so much smaller than soccer .. No country in the world accepts it cuz its just fuckin dumb. rugby i like cuz they r men and they dont fuckin pause every 2 seconds.
@gagebrwn, you are such a dumbass! NFL has players who wear protective gearing! In rugby, the players act like real men and beats the crap out of each other.
calling it soccer and making fun of it just because he's working in the us. you never hear that in scotland. I think you get your ass kick even from rugby players
Well, the program is broadcast primarily in America... which means he's going to have to call it soccer lest the football fans get in a tizzy, right? =P
@foreversapphire woah, i expected your response to be childish, but not so pathetic. considering i just watched this video while stumbling around youtube today for the first time its not really relevant when i responded to your comment unless i saw this video 3 years ago, remembered that comment and decided to post a response to it because i just felt like it.

@foreversapphire yeah it is, but i cant stand all the hateing america comments soemtimes, especially ones that seem like they are just nit picking like talking about how americans call 'football' 'soccer' when in reality we have different words for lots of other things and its not really worth pointing out.
