My take on Penn is this: I always found him to be a gentle giant (in person), who is capable of speaking his mind without hesitation. His convictions are real. He trys to be more than fair and reaches that goal more times than not. When he's wrong, he'd rather be the one to notice it first and apologize. He isn't one to fuel a fire but doesn't mind reminding you that flames burn everything around them so think twice before playing with matches. He truley believes in your right to be an asshole!

Having trouble with education early in life does not make you an idiot. I highly doubt that Penn is the same person he was at 18. Nor does it make his opinion less valid as an opinion. True intelligence comes from someone who is able to admit when they don't know something and ask someone who DOES. Penn seems like the person who is willing to go to others he trusts (often with credentials) for the answers...because he doesn't know. Better than sitting on high passing judgement on others.

Many places in America (Such as here in Arizona) are being forced to put SPANISH on their signs/information/etc. So... That's even WORSE. Also, Canadians have post-911 bills that allow the government to declare martial law and such. It is at least nearly as fucked up here as it is down there.

While, on paper, the civil liberties are the same between the countries (ignoring quebec, which really isn't part of canada anyway, *cough*), I think we have more of a civil liberty social norm.
