  • My Almost Gothic video was killed in less than 2 hours by WMG. I think Don and Walt wouldve loved my tribute

  • I know right? I tried to make a video, with pixeleen as the background music and my video is audio disabled, I don't understand the logic behind it all, come on its like a tribute to a song i like, its a conspiracy I tell yall. Response to olivej1942's comment. look at my simple channel and see what i mean, not even sure if there is database of allowed songs out there in youtube or even by these people that seem to block people's creativity in videos and music tributes. thats my 2 cents...

  • ass

  • I tried posting the Snowbound video just to see what would happen, and it only lasted about one day before they (WMG) blocked it. I didn't put any tags or even the name on it, but they still found it right away. So I looked them up on Wikipedia and saw how they blocked some group's own video on their own website! They wouldn't even let the artist post their own video. Very strange. I'm just wondering how it could benefit them to do this sort of thing?

  • Playlist. dot com works! Of course you can't see the cool video :(

  • Fagen sure sounds different these days

  • to TheFunkologist ~ yea...;-) thanks for your comment.

Did you try the 'grooveshark' link?

I'm curious to know if works where you are? ;-j

  • @ELGROOVER Naw it's not workin'. No biggie tho, my pops got the cd at home. Also I've seen the video a lot of time back in '93 or whenever it was released. And if I'm right either Dailymotion, or another videosite is still streaming it.

  • to TheFunkologist ~ thanks for the feedback.

Grooveshark™ is working fine here in the UKplc. (btw - it can take a little while to load up at the initial page). As is common with these things, it's dependent on where you're listening from.

Maybe anyone else who can't use the above mentioned link could try your suggestions, and then let us know where else this "Snowbound" track can be accessed ☺ ;-j

  • @ELGROOVER I looked it up and you should try: clevver. com

  • to TheFunkologist ~ Yep, ^th@^ works (back here in the UKplc))-;-)) It's the slightly shorter version with the viddy that has added sound fx. Thanks for the info. Proost! ☺ ;-j

  • ~ btw - The 'Grooveshark' link (for those who can access it) has the full 7min+ of the 'pure' album track (no viddy) ☼ ;-j

  • if you want to see the real video of snowbound go to...

    metacafe.com

    and do a search

it's a great song and a great video!

  • to JoeisLoco ~ Thanks for the info. I tried to have a look at it on 'metacafe' ; unfortunately that track/vid is not available in the UK.

  • I know how you're feeling about the song being disabled and replaced, bro. It's these copyright claim actions by these music megacompanies like WMG that are killing potential sales for their albums at record stores and on iTunes by keeping people from hearing what they're missing.

Incidentally, "Snowbound" is one of my favorite tracks off of Kamakiriad and I've got the complete album, downloaded off iTunes. Donald Fagen's music (with Steely Dan or solo) is the ace high.

  • to VancouverTVGuy ~ Thanks for your comment ☺ Yea... I have the album too, on CD. I put up a link (which still works) where peeps can hear the whole "Snowbound" track and other music of Donald Fagen ☼ ;-j

  • Donald sounds funny this times

  • (◎▲◎;) 今度は、引導のようです。もし、どこまで行くんです?

  • This vid is good -- FOR ME TO POOP ON !

Gotta go now, run an errand -- gotta drop off The Cosby Kidz...

  • What's all this '@@@' shit?

  • Well wh@ do you think all "this '@@@' shit" is? Wh@ does it m@ter anyway! @ is where it's @, so take th@ LOL.. ;-j

  • CONGRATULATIONS!!!!. FINALLY!!! It only took a direct link/quote from a dictionary to make you do so. How sad.

In case anyone else doesn't know what is happening here, ELGROOVER misspelled "fromerly" as "formally" in the title of this "video".

ELGROOVER: I admire your passion. You are posting crap music under the veil of protest, which I do believe is genuine, but you are making no real difference. You have a lot to learn; I hope you actually make a difference someday. FIND THAT VENUE.

  • A blatant excuse for posting garbage music under stolen images and insinuated copyright violations. What a horrible loophole. Your music sucks, elgroover.

  • Wh@ are you talking about? If you think the music is "garbage" fair enough, it wasn't my original choice 2 post wh@'s here now, but " insinuated copyright violations"? "Insinuated", no! FACT! Are you such a numpty th@ you can't see wh@'s gone on here!? Wh@'s horrible is how record comps. stifle music sharing. Those th@ won't buy music, won't!! Those th@ do, will buy more if they get to hear it in the first place. You can't have looked @ my channel music very well, good sounds there like yours.

  • Learn how to spell.

Posting videos with alternate music/music other than listed, is fraudulent, although not, yet, criminally. I hope YouTube can address this issue. Again, I direct you towards your dialog with "davidfugel", datemarked as one week ago.

You are wasting time of those like "davidfugel" and myself who would like to hear the music. Both "davidfugel" and I are aware of what is happening, and neither of us need your petulance or illiteracy to figure anything out.

  • 'mriseborough'

    1/6

I know how to spell ; how I write is my choice.

Read wh@ you see and try and understand it, instead of just your preconceived notions, e.g. the title, "[FORMALLY]....etc....[COPYRIGHT BLOCKED]" - nothing "fraudulent" about it and the side-bar info isn't too hard to understand, is it?

"After 2,100+ views, Snowbound - Donald Fagen is yet another tune hit by the recent avalanche of copyright enforcements killing the sounds on YT....etc.."

  • 2/6

I'm doubtful there's any point in discussing this with you, but I'm willing 2 try. You have odd ideas of my r@ionale 4 posting, is anything going 2 change them? Still, FYI & the benefit of anyone else reading this, if you read the title of this posting you can hardly expect 2 hear the actual song mentioned, (though as it happens, thanks 2 your input, there is now a link included making th@ possible ☺

As 4 "wasting time", AGAIN (aah..the irony :-)) I say, READ the TITLE & go figure....

  • 3/6

I didn't want the effort of uploading 'Snowbound' to become a complete waste of MY time because of WMG blocking it. You and others like "davidfugel", whose time is so precious, complain of losing a few seconds of it, then waste even more time complaining about me instead of WMG!? When the tune got blocked after playing for 2 months, this post became an opportunity to comment on over zealous & counter-productive copyright enforcement by record companies. If you don't want to comment on th@..

  • 4/6

..then go elsewhere and take your witch-hunt with you.

The issue of misrepresent@ion th@ you have raised is a good one, but I don't take kindly to your false accus@ions and of being called a liar. If you wish to contribute here, fine, but don't get personal or you're gone. Flag it up with YT. They'll know the history of this posting and they'll know wh@ I've said in th@ regard is true. I imagine deliber@ely fraudulent postings as you describe do occur, but not here on my channel, ok.

  • 5/6

However, I do see wh@ you mean, I found this, (see uulyrics (dot) com link in side-bar). I didn't put this vid there ; there's no promotion of the replacement artist there btw.

Instead of seeing this kind of unintentional misrepresent@ion as a loophole with YTs' Audio Swap, as you do, I see this as sheer foolhardiness on the part of the record companies in not allowing their music to be promoted on mediums like YT in the first place. The more ears it reachs, ulim@ely, more sales are made.

  • 6/6

Finally, wh@'s with the unnecessary insults?

I refer you to my reply to 'zzaj69 ', kindly take note, thanks ☺ Refigure your figurings, you got 'em wrong this time. ;-j

  • "I see this as sheer foolhardiness on the part of the record companies in not allowing their music to be promoted on mediums like YT in the first place. The more ears it reachs, ulim@ely, more sales are made." Directly quoted from you, as above.

I agree with this. I do not agree with your method, nor the loophole that allows it.

  • 1/7

On a brighter ♪♫, UMG are being far more relaxed & sensible about this copyright business. Evidently, they see the good sense in permitting much of their music 2b heard on YT. I've uploaded UMG owned material & they usually don't make a fuss. I receive a notific@ion th@ they claim the copyright, an ad goes up on the 'vid', & th@'s th@. I've been uploading music here on YT for over 8 months & very recently something unprecedented occurred in my uploading experiences & it concerns UMG.

  • 2/7

I just happened to notice th@ an upload I'd made of Black Uhuru th@ had been instantly blocked/muted by a copyright claim had been rolled back and was 'live' and audible. I checked through 'My Videos' and found other UMG artists uploads I'd made th@ never had a hearing, had become 'live'. These were all tracks th@ I'd never got around to using Audio Swap on and a good job too, 'cos once applied I don't think the 'swaps' can be removed. This recent rollback event is very encouraging.

  • 3/7

I have a passion for music, always have had, always will do. It irks me in the extreme to see music curtailed like it is on sharing sites. I mean.....ffs, if they're so intent on driving the industry into the ground, why don't the record companies go the whole hog and black out their store windows, seal wrap all their albums/discs so we can't even see wh@ it is or who it's by, and demand confidentiality contracts from the production staff to forbid disclosure of any product inform@ion!!

  • 4/7

In summary, there is something here th@ we agree on, th@'s good.

You say you don't agree with my method or the loophole th@ allows it.

  • 5/7

Your objections to the loophole are understandable in the fraudulent situ@tion as you've described.

  • 5b/7

It's not clear to me whether you still don't differenti@e between out and out exploiters, (whose existence I've yet to see any convincing evidence of), th@ have no other agenda apart from bigging up small artists, (I agree with you th@ th@ is wrong), and then those who replace a blocked audio with the music offered them simply because it's there and fills a hole. To my mind, my position or method isn't clearly in either of these.

  • 6/7

I hope you've reconsidered your original accus@ion and agree with me th@ I'm not in the former ;-) c@agory. Yet my method doesn't entirely fit the complete innocence of the l@ter either, as I do have an agenda of discouraging the copyright enforcements and so I like the happenstance of the awkwardness and dilemma th@ Audio Swap causes to the record companies when I use it. Have there been any vids put up about this inconguity with the use of Audio Swap th@ you know of?

  • 7/7

Here's hoping UMG will continue to show the nous they have and th@ the other players will begin to follow their lead.

There's a wider context to this whole rotten ownership business, and I can't see the end of it. The world ain't ready for a Chomsky life, even though it's well overdjue! ;-j

  • Well, there it is. How selfish of you. You did not want it to be a complete waste of your time. Oh, the tears you avoided to shed...

  • 1/12

You let yourself down badly with this particular comment.

Despite the rude & belligerent tone of your comments, presumptive and mistaken interpret@ion of my r@ionale and repe@edly disregarding my honest explan@ions of the posting ; I have, until now, declined from downgrading any of your comments, as the issues you've raised regarding removal of audio tracks by copyright claims and the subsequent use of Audio Swap are pertinent and have merit, though I may not agree on your conclusions.

  • 2/12

I'm trying find a positive from these lazy and vacuous remarks? Yea....well, I can clarify my position further!

You described me earlier (re the dictionary) as if I were unwilling to make an effort. It requires far less effort to do as you, "davidfugel", and others may suggest and to simply pull the video, than it does to pick the audio replacement and explain wh@ has happened and to highlight the problem.

Quietly taking the video down avoids dealing with the issue.

  • 3/12

It sends an implicit message 2 the rec. comps. th@ their excessive pursuit of copyright enforcement in these mediums is acceptable 2 music lovers who buy their product. Their actions are not acceptable 2 me or many other music buyers & are not in the best interests of the music.

So I choose 2 make every 'block by copyright' visible, as others also do, and I wish th@ more people would demonstr@e their displeasure 2 the short-sighted, grasping record companies who obstruct music being heard.

  • 4/12

Sure, there are specialised posts and places to take up this topic, but I think th@ the 'scene of the crime', as it were, is as appropri@e a place as any to flag up discussion.

Your illumin@ion of the loophole allowing abuse of the Audio Swap system by causing deliber@e, fraudulent misrepresent@ion of artists has been most enlightening. I hadn't much considered th@ aspect before. I'm very interested to know wh@ YT think of it?

    After giving it some thought....

  • 5/12

..I imagine YTs' intent 4 Audio Swap was 4 it 2 be used so th@ 'proper' videos made with the main focus on the images where audio has been added as a supplement, which then happened 2 infringe copyright, could be easily replaced without uploading from scr@ch.

Consider also th@ not all music focused uploads are just inert 'single stills', some considerable effort & cre@ivity can be put into even the simple montages & info in the side-bars can be extensive & time consumingly researched.

  • 6/12

I, and others of similar mind, have been using Audio Swap to replace copyright infringing audio @ the suggestion of YT!!

I think it unlikely th@ many have been engaging in the type of deliber@e misrepresent@ion th@ you've brought up, or have they? I don't know? Have you found many explicit examples of 'piggybacking' by lesser known artists from the Audio Swamp [sic]....

  • 7/12

..examples exhibiting an unconscionable, sole motiv@ion of being unequivocal or strongly suspect as to being deviously promoted through a better known artists' reput@ion for a wider audience exposure? If so, then direct me to them because I've not noticed any.

I don't think highly of th@ sort of nonsense, it wouldn't be a clever way to carry on. In my case, and I would guess in many others, the inclusion of an Audio Swap artist is primarily an opportunity to fill the silence....

  • 8/12

..(wh@ with silent movies & stills not having been all the rage 4 quiet some time) ..while reading any available info. If the unexpected music isn't 2 ones liking, mute it.

Maybe your worst suspicions were aroused by my use of the Audio Swap on "Gun Street Girl - Tom Waits" & comments I added after tiring of (I guess) 4 months or more of muted silence since putting it up late last year. From some snippits of info, I got the impression Waits would begrudge giving away steam off his piss....

  • 9/12

..In my chagrin I wrote, ".....A missed opportunity for people to hear (and then buy) your music, given instead to "Halfway to Gone". A reference to the replacement artist. If you construe th@ as part of your reasoning th@ I'm chiefly interested in promoting the lesser known, in the guise of the well known, you need to ignore the huge majority of inform@ion and circumstances th@ fly in the face of th@ notion to make it hang.

  • 10/12

Even though I paid special @tention to mentioning the record label of the replacement track, (I think I made some searches outside of Audio Swap to find wh@ the label was, so much was I pissed off @ this fine song not being audible) ; it wasn't done because I dearly wanted to promote the replacement, it was done as an @tempt to wake them up to the fact of wh@ they themselves were allowing to happen by pulling the song.

  • 11/12

I'd never heard of 'Halfway To Gone' before and I wouldn't have had but for the pulling of the Waits track. As it happened I liked their track "Black Coffy" very much. On the strength of it I would buy an album/disc of theirs new, whereas I'll only buy Waits music 2nd hand now on principle.

Because of the policy WMG and those like them follow, I'm perfectly happy @ any embarrassment caused to them by the Audio Swap fe@ure and it's consequences.

  • 12/12

It's nothing less than they deserve in return for their poor decisions in not having their own artists keep the 'promotional slots' YouTubers have opened for them. I know it can sometimes be the artists' choice to exercise copyright claims wherever and whenever, but I believe th@ most often it's the record companies, regardless of wh@ the artist may want.

  • You must be, or once have been, a Poly Sci student. One of the first tricks politicians learn is when backed to a wall, retaliate with venomous accusations. Your first paragraph, above, is a textbook example. Two disparaging adjectives applied to me, followed by another paragraph of self-fulfilling crap. In addition, I don't think you know what word it was you were unable to spell originally, or since correct.

  • Wrong. Your initial comment is self-serving. See my next response.

  • Again, you can't spell. I was hoping for a live version, as your title "Formally" indicated, to me a regal, hopefully live, performance. How silly of me. How horrible to hope and click... The real horror was to discover garbage music and a jerk behind it all.

  • No, you don't. Find a dictionary, online or the old-fashioned ones that took more effort than you are willing to assert, and look up:

"Formal" and then "Former". Congratulations on successfully modifying and adjective to an adverb, though.

Your entire posting is deceitful. Congratulations on poting a link to the real deal, too bad you do not have the balls to post it here.

  • 1/2

Lol, you're right about th@! Good grief! Th@ IS awful spelling. Still, it's easily put right.

I've explained how the posting got like this. It's not deceitful, it just is wh@ it is ; a big disappointment, thanks to WMG. It wasn't originally designed to be like this, it's just how it turned out, due to WMG taking the audio away. So I've made use of the 'Audio Swap' ; I declared th@ @ the time, (which I needn't have, but did so in an effort 4 clarity)! Th@'s not deceitful! Quite the opposite.

  • 2/2

"poting" :-D you need to press those keys a little harder.

You say, "..too bad you do not have the balls to post it here." Huh? Just click the link!? If posted here, the vid would simply be disabled just as mine was, wouldn't it? Struth! You're quite desper@e to have a dig @ me however you can.

I think it's odd how you perceive th@ I'm been deliber@ely weaving some gre@ deceit, when all I've been trying to do is add my bit to highlighting the absurdity of WMGs' actions.

  • 1/2

Yes, yes, alright!! I misspelled "Formerly", get over it. (btw I do know how 'reaches' is spelt as well as you know how 'posting' is).

As for "...a jerk behind it all." lol, funnily enough you're right in wh@ you say there, but not in the thinking behind it. Look beyond me @ those responsible @ WMG, th@'s where the jerks are. I'm sorry th@ WMG have pulled the track, but I have no apologies to make for anything th@ I've done with this post in reaction to WMGs' potty copyright enforcement.

  • 2/2

Blimey! You heard a piece of music you didn't expect & didn't like....Shock!! Horror!! lol, have the therapy bill sent on to WMG :-D.

We could carry on exchanging facetious* (I ALWAYS have to look th@ one up btw, 'cos I can't spell very well* :-)) remarks tit for tat but how useful is th@, really?

  • Well, I understand perfectly what you have done here, and I applaud it.

The new owners of NotYourTubeAnymore are greedy, overweening, parasitic, controlling members of the international mafia of crime lords.

Any thorn we can insert in their drawers gives me great satisfaction - like your holding up their loathsomeness to ridicule here.

  • Thank you, thank you very much indeed.

  • Pull this CRAP.

  • NO.

  • this sucks

  • yep

  • you know you could just take the video down entirely, that would save us from having to waste time arguing about it.

  • yea.... I know ;-D

  • what the hell is this? -___- free time.

  • ? -___- a wide-mouthed toad?

  • You are Deceitful

    .. This is Crap!!!!!

Of witch, you are full of El Twat

  • No, @ least not deliber@ely deceitful, just busy....I forgot to adjust the title when 'Snowbound' got banjaxed. [THANKS] for the reminder, just kindly lay off with the personal insults if you want to post here again, ok ☺

  • crap song with crap lyrics -

  • R.I.P. Music Industry. Where were the Bosses when mp3 came up ? Playing Golf i think....

  • I remember my 1st joint

  • Snowbound is one of the best songs on the CD, talk about bait and switch, what's the point of this?

  • fuck this

  • ya mon

  • WTF IS THIS SHIT

  • kinda shitty!

  • It stinks, yep!

  • I hate when they do crap like this. Hey record companies; if you don't want us putting up copyrighted videos, then you should have your own damn channel and post it yourself!! What good is it sitting in a vault somewhere? If more people see it, it might boost your sales. No wonder your going out of business!

  • Exactly!! They don't understand the record buying public.

  • I was looking for the original video of this, you know the one with the human heads with tiny cars for bodies and robotic arms? I only a small B&B snippit of but not the original vid.

  • Never seen it Derek, it's not one I know. Good luck with your search. (Too bad we can't even hear the tune here anymore init )-:

  • It used to be on YouTube, but of course they removed it because of copyright B.S. Thank you, Lars Ulrich, for fucking it up for everyone!

  • Don't blame it on Lars. A lot of people want to get paid for their work. Anyway Metallica has been generous with their fans, free concerts, for instance.

  • They get paid for their work. Actions like these by the copyright owners just serve to prevent more potential buyers from hearing music they might not ordinarily hear. People who buy music aren't going to be satisfied with just a YouTube posting to listen to. The music companies do themselves and their artists no favours by alien@ing their customers with overzealous copyright enforcement. Because of their greedy, grasping efforts, as we see here, I (and hope others) BUY 2ND HAND more often now.

  • this sucks!

  • Yup.

  • Whatever floats your boat, but I can't get into this version. Sounds nothing like the original which is a damn shame.

  • Version? This isn't a "version", it's an 'Audio Swap' replacement and nothing to do with wh@ I originally put up. Th@ got copyright blasted!! Read the sidebar/comments here....

  • What the hell is this?!?!

  • I explained in the sidebar →

  • "After 2,100+ views, Snowbound - Donald Fagen is yet another tune hit by the recent avalanche of copyright enforcements killing the sounds on YT. I'll trot out yet again my little piece of wh@ I think of this stupidity - I think the record companies don't understand the record buying public and th@ they lose more potential sales than they think they gain by this action. If you're considering buying this excellent music (th@ you can't hear here now), I recommend th@ you buy it 2ND HAND OK!!"

  • Check this out it's the original song sorry no video it's from imeem

    <div style="width:300px

  • well, shitty about the song getting replaced, but Snowbound was an excellent song off from an excellent album, but I agree w/ what other people said, Nightfly was perhaps a little better. Morph the Cat sucked, for the most part.

  • Yeah what the hell happened to the song? There used to be a video for this song to, but it mysteriously disappeared. Kamakiriad is a great album. Havent heard the others though. But I do have the Steely Dan Box set. Great stuff.

  • legal battle, and the people who own'd the rights to the song must've replaced the audio. if you havent, go out and find a copy of the Nightfly, it's really good. like I said, Morph the Cat (w/ a few exceptions) was a mediocre album, but the Nightfly is some of the best stuff you can put into your ear.

  • I love this song. Thanks for posting :)

  • Too bad we can't hear it here anymore.

  • Overall I like Kamakiriad a lot but Nightfly is far superior. That said, Snowbound is one of my favourite Fagen songs. Interesting that the best track on the album was co-written by Becker, when Don was usually the one who wrote the best music!

    Good stuff.

  • god, he made some smashing tunes

    donald fagen, true legend

ran it to this vinyl few days back.

    god the smooth lyrics.

  • This entire album is great!

  • Yes it is, I think the rest of the tracks are dotted around the 'tube', just couldn't find this one up....so....voila!! ☺
