Metal Gear Solid by a long shot. Metal Gear Solid 4 is the greatest game ever or ever will be made. But Resident Evil still has that horror feel to it, but I must say the horror and servival elements were gone by RE4 and after that they were just reduced to pure shooter games (RE4 and 5) But RE1,2, and 3 were what the games were originally about, pure servival and horror. It was amazing. But still in my opinion, the Metal Gear Solid series will always be the best game series ever to be created.

@TheAnihilator1 I actually agree there (Though I think Final Fantasy 9 and Chrono Trigger have the best storylines of any game ever), but I feel that for any game genre gameplay is more important (Well, except for RPGs), which is why I'm going with RE.

Also, RE4 is pretty scary, not as OFTEN as the previous games, but it's as much scary. I mean remember the regenerators? Or the verdugo? Or the dogs in the garden? Or the bugs in the sewers? All of those at least made me jump...

MGS has everything ! but RE is all about beloved characters like Chris, Jill and Wesker, Imagine RE with new characters it's an absolute failure, MGS has the latest, the strongest and the cutting edge technology out there, it also has the enemies act like they're real soldiers, they think, they get scared they... they... and they... etc, but for RE enemies are easy to make, like the Majinis/zombies who just rush into you, and more I just don't see this a fair competition cause MGS is WAAY better

You know that's a good question! Haha no but I think you really need to look deeper into these games. There both very different in their own way from story telling as one is about history while the other isn't. Another thing is art one has life form drawing while the other has more of a life forn cartooning one. If were counting the entire series I would say Metal Gear Solid only because Resident Evil 4 and 5 really screwed up the series.

Hard to say, I like the two games: one side MGS offers a deep history and rich in emotions with a lot of charismatic characters like Snake, and Resident Evil which certainly offers a more traditional story but with a unique maccabre ambiance and staging, as a fan since the very beginning, i logically vote for Resident Evil and Albert Wesker, I prefer viruses and genetic experiments that modern warfare and its super soldiers
