Michael Corcoran is a fabulous commentator , incredible passion , emotion , humour and his love for the game is clear for all to hear.he will be in time , considered one of the great commentators in Irish sports broadcasting..
Radio commentary is obviously difficult. The first job of the commentator is to describe what is happening on the pitch and Michael Corcoran fails miserably at this. He falls back on cliches all the time - 'X has lost control of the ball' - and his particular favourite 'X has the ball in a central midfield position' - this is poor commentary as I never know what is happening or where play is taking place. A commentator should remain calm and accurately describe what is happening.
Never Give a fan a microphone, what a lame comment, So commentators can only say muted comments with ear plugs and pre approved comments. WAKE UP MAN The great MOM said the Corcoran was excellent in his commentaries and listening to him was like he was playing the game himself. That's appreciation. If the last comment likes muted stuff listen to the bbc or skysports real mind numbing stuff. Corcoran does equally well for both sides in all his games.
@meindlz A commentator has a duty to be impartial and unbiased. It has to be neither muted nor pre-approved. M Ó M's commentaries always seemed like they were from the heart and off the cuff at the same time. Ó Muircheartaigh is a decent man and is very unlikely to say anything bad about a colleague at RTÉ. To me, Corcoran's commentaries are annoying rather than breathtaking and I cannot understand why RTÉ push the guy so much as to me he is a poor broadcaster.
Never give a fan a microphone. No cheering in the press box. I could go on. Corcoran's commentaries are nauseating. The guy has been put up on a pedestal for no good reason. As for the 'painting pictures with words' line on RTE.ie, please. Micheál Ó M painted pictures with words. When Leitrim won Connacht in '94 he said there were men 'looking down the banisters of heaven' at Declan Darcy lifting the cup. That's a true gift. Corcoran just shouts. There is nothing enduring about this.
How many more cave dwellers are here, again the commentator's job is to make the game present in your room. He is not biased, there is an irish side in the final he is irish and wants to celebrate a score or vistory, he also comments well on the opposition. As for Stuart Barnes & Co its the most dull introverted commentary ever. Come people enjoy the rugby if not dont listen to games vere again
Why is he biased?? Commentators are supposed to bring in the listener to the game and make them feel part of it. That is what Michael Corcoran does. The last 2 comment are obviously are from narrowed mined un-sportmanlike people who hate others wining. Bit of advice lads open the curtains and get outside for yourself there is a bigger world than yer dungeon out there
@meindlz Bit of advice for you: don't make assumptions about posters here. I am from Dublin and thrilled to sight of Leinster's amazing comeback as anyone. The match was all the more satisfying for me to watch in that I didn't have to listen this commentary with it..
"the greatest invention since the invention of the sliced pan" Very corny
Corcoran's commentary is too emotional, biased and cliche ridden. RTE's sports commentators are generally very poor and its not supprising that they regard this example of broadcasting as "breathtaking."
@green1773 well although I am no fan of Sky Sports I did watch the final live on Sky and the commentary was impartial and restrained, even in the first half when Northampton were running away with it. Corcoran here is losing it - very unprofessional broadcasting.
@OutOnBailNow worse than that he actually said "the greatest comeback since the invention of the sliced pan" so it's cliche and doesn't make any sense, nothing too special about this commentary, great game tho, well done to the D4 lot,
PS:who ever posted this vid should be ashamed of the song,it's fucking awful/////
@tonofpoo I obviously meant to say "comeback." Anyway it was a naff sentence made by a commentator getting carried away with himself. The poster of this video is RTE. It says something about the broadcaster that they would entitle a sample of their own work as "breathtaking" - self praise is no praise.
now a sniping run...big fella now, now , now here we are now...ah now, now...now, now ....here now sniping run...now, now , now, now...
