Almost all new LED lights have this little tiny dot syndrome. Never in rock history has than been cool. even after all these years of little dots, it still isn't cool. Removing the mirrors makes a derby x look like a moving head spot. I also flipped the LED packs inside the lamp upside down. Now they are PERFECTLY slaved for a symmetrical stage left and stage right effect.

I pulled the glass lenses out of my derby X and they totally rock...I might experiment with different lenses...but when did little tiny dots become cool? They suck. I almost don't need moving head spots based on my mods. DEATH TO TINY DOTS!
I got a chance to see one of these DerbyX lights in Guitar Center this last weekend, and I was really quite impressed! The DerbyX has the sharpest optics I've seen from Chauvet so far. The beams were very sharp, and appeared brighter than the Vue II which was in the same room. Very wide coverage, narrow on the vertical coverage, but I think that is a good thing, as it looks excellent in fog that way!
I hate to say this, but this is a pretty useless light.
I love Chauvet lighting, i dont have anything but Chauvet on my rig, simply because of there reasonable pricing and durability and this is the first time i have bought one that i dont plan on using very much :(
The name Derby is totally misleading, the double derby outshines this light on its own without any other lights turned on.
The next big buy was going to be a QSpot, i think i might hold off now till i find some reviews of them.
I would strongly disagree that it's a useless light, but I definitely agree that it is not a Derby light replacement. I think they are going to catch some flack for calling it a Derby light. Derby lights have generally always been good room filling effects, and the DerbyX wouldn't hold a room on it's own, I don't think, unless you were to stack several together. It looks like it would make a great mid air fog effect though, and the patterns are pretty cool, not the typical round patterns :)
Honestly: I wouldn't call it a Derby, I'd have called it an LED Sweeper, as it looks a lot more like a shooter/sweeper in LED form than a Derby. It's a nice looking effect, and worth getting, but I would hope it is not going to try to replace the Kinta, as the Kinta has actual movement involved (not just changing patterns), and provides a lot larger coverage horizontally.
For a real Kinta replacement, it needs a LOT more horizontal coverage, and as many colors as possible in LED, and similiar motion, and a lot of variety in motion (fast spinning, slower spinning, stutter effect, etc...) From the looks of it, this light would need to be stacked atleast 3 high, before coming close to the same horizontal projection as a Kinta.
I should have said, "provides a lot more coverage "vertically", not horizontally.... Horizontally, they are probably close, vertical projection is much more narrow on the DerbyX. Still cool, I may need to get one :)
wow i like the end it looks pritty intence hahahahah

with all lights to see beams in the air you need to have some sort of suspended particles.

I was thinking it would look pretty cool as a companion effect for a liquid sky laser effect, with the laser overhead a DerbyX.

Very cool light though, worth getting for sure, just not a Derby/Kinta replacement :)
