  • "I could snap you like a chicken!"

  • "Yes, you are."

    Awwww.

  • ian are you hungry

    no thanks i already ate

    okay i make you something

    typical wog woman

    long live aurthodox

  • We never think this would happen for you. Never.

  • '-Ian, are you hungry?

    -No I already ate.

    -Ok, I'll make you something.'

THAT'S SOOOO GREEK!!! If you go to a greek house and you say that you don't want anything they will get offended lol

  • @alyctus So true. I was stranded at an airport with an elderly couple - the wife being Greek - and we all went to get something to eat. She asked if I want something, I told her I was full, and she said that she'll get me something to eat...

  • @TheSheiban of course she did :P when you say 'no' automatically we believe you say it just because to sound nice but you mean 'yes'... it's so normal here

  • @alyctus Same for Italians :)

  • @StandUpForCanada1867 una faccia una razza ;))

  • @alyctus hahaha!!! :-)

  • @alyctus thats SO true, last time i was in a greek house they asked me: are you hungry?and i said no i dont wanna eat,and they answered ok then eat this.LOL.

  • @bulimiahell haha yea it's because we believe that when someone says 'no' when you offer him something it's because he tries to look polite and we will be rude if we don't offer something :P

  • @alyctus Italian, and Mexican households as well.

  • @alyctus

HAHA i'm Persian and we have se SAME culture. they will PUT food on your plate to eat LOL

  • 2:40 : Irthe i magiritsa! Magiritsa is a greek (awfull to me ) food!

7:42 -Kosta ksero... -E afou to ksereis giati mou milas? :means: Kostas i know... If you know then why do you talk to me?

  • Well, there's a reason behind the "NO MEAT?" thing. During the German Occupation, our grandparents (who were children back then) were starving, so they learnt how to appreciate food. A little piece of meat for example, was heaven to them. This way of thinking never left them, so they keep transmitting it to the new generations. My grandma for example, gives me something to eat every 20 minutes. You see, they still have this subconscious fear that time of starvation might come again.

  • "IAN!!!!! :D :D :D"

  • haha awesome! "Hey Ian, were gonna killa ya OOPPAA!" :DDD

  • Not trying to be a wise guy and please forgive my ignorance but the phrase 'Opah!', what is that?

  • @mooseasaurusrex We use 'opa' as an exclamation when we dance... I've also seen people who stumble and some others say to them 'opa'... or when you want somebody to stop doing something like 'opa that's enough, don't put so much food to my plate'... but it's mainly used in dancing!

  • hahaha 2:31 "christ is risen for sure if Tula found a husband"

  • @pianoclassicalluver HA! I didn't catch that until you pointed it out. Thanks.

  • thats ok i make lamb lolz!!

  • Hey Ian, we're gonna kill ya, OOMMPAA~ :D

  • Aww, I like the brother. He's an Aussie, right? Why does he talk like a new yorker?

  • ian;did she spit on him?

Tula: it keeps the devil away...

  • aunt voula "what do u mean he dnt eat no meat" lol "ok ill make lamb" she is 2 funny

  • This movie makes me wish I was greek <3

  • I love this scene! Especially the fact that Ian made an effort to get familiar with her customs instead of forcing her to compromise. I love her brother too, he's like my little brother, I swear I would think less of myself if it wasn't for him being so sweet and supportive. Heck, I love all the men in this movie! Yes, this is the gabillionth time I've seen this movie and probably commented, but nothing it makes me so darn happy!

  • what's a turkish delight?

A dead greek---seriously though I love this movie

  • i'm filipino and this kind of reminds me of my family. blunt, loud, all up in your business, and will force food down your throat. lots and lots of it. it's great :D lol

but instead of dancing, they sing karaoke

  • @Nickname997 lmao im guessing your tourkish or anothersorounding country that has tried on numerous occasions to steal our amazing land, and besides our food is tasty enough we dont cover it in condements, the word filotimo does not exist in any other language(look it up), with one flame we united the entire world, we never visit empty handed, and we are strong enough to instead of complain we dance to our own origional style of dance zembekiko, i want to see the turks dance to that!

  • @Nickname997 1)Scum like that exists everywhere.In Greece,too.That doesn't mean everyone is like that.

2)Greeks didn't steal anything,Ottoman Empire was one entity, meaning that different cultures influenced one another. That ''stolen'' food you are talking about belongs to both Greek and Turkish. As for the music, the ancestor of bouzouki dates back to B.C when Turks didn't exist.

  • thats ok! i make lamb!

  • When my people were writting philosophy your people were still swinging from trees ! TRUE !

  • @Vasilikii14 how could that be true that doesnt even make sense.

nobodys ancestors were swinging from trees because everybodys ancestors were human.

  • love my countryyyy :D go go greece :P

  • cheese straws are nasty

  • "I am sorry, everyone this is Ian" "IAAAAAAN" HAHA xD

  • what is the religion of the greeks in this movie? is it the same as the catholics?

  • @thirst49 no it's the Greek orthodox church, different from catholic

  • 9:20 - 9:53 :D

  • ... lastly, this is set in Chicago but the film was actually taped in Toronto! if ever anyone goes to Toronto, visit the Danforth... the Pappas Grill restaurant is shown in every scene filmed at the Travel Agency. Nia Vardalos did us Greek Canadians proud. must say, this movie was as successful as it was because its so authentic and genuine...

  • ... this movie has so many "inside jokes" that makes it so hilarious... from the Tupperware the little Toula character eats from to the plastic couch covers to the way the dad pauses in his speech to the little comments... I must say that a lot of characters are played by Greek actors (ie Nick the brother, Niki the cousin, Toula) but the characters who are not played by Greeks did a pretty impressive job as well... most notably, Andrea Martin reminds me of family!! but shes Jewish in real life.

  • the significance about eating meat and the lamb being considered an alternative to meat is because its universally understood among Greeks that Greeks will never be vegetarians or vegans... we like our salads, fruits, & veggies of course, after all the Greek diet is known to be one of the healthiest, but meat is a staple and lamb is considered to be the most popular of all... most Greeks eat it at Easter, Christmas, weddings, special occassions

You see, they still have this subconscious fear that times of starvation might come again.

  • In Greek : "When my people were writing philosophy, your people were still swinging from trees." LOL

"Hey Ian! We're gonna' kill ya'! Opa!" XD

"He don't eat no meat?.. What you mean he don't eat no meat!? Oh that's okay.. that's okay.. I make lamb!" ROFL

In Greek "Orea Visia" - Nice boobs

Some of the best quotes in this vid' IMO XD

  • i keep repeating the "WHAT YOU MEAN HE DON'T EAT NO *MEAT*?"

  • "WHAT DO YOU MEAN HE DON'T EAT MEAT?!"

    "That's okay. I make lamb."

lmao. Greeks are just like nigerians.

  • @TorynMarch well no...not at all!

  • "You're engaged! You're engaged1 We never think that can happen for you! Never!" lol

  • "hey, how do you say thank you in greek?" "ole hejave" " ole hejave?" "yes good!" mom comes, "ole hejave!" "what??" hahah that made me laugh:)

  • how come a lamb is not a meat? LOL

  • Gosh. I never knew lamb didn't count as meat. All my years of eating have new meaning.

  • "What do you mean, he don't eat no MEAT?!"

  • Ah, Toula, you're engaged! We never thought this moment would come for you: Never, never, never!

    Muahahaha

  • @TaigaUSA that was my family reaction with my and ex. they're all like "ohmygod, you finally have a boyfriend" and i'm like "what are you talking about? i've had several!" and they're like "yeah, but they didn't count".
