  • it don't matter if it's a hmong song or not...they're HMONG singers!!! anyone CAN sing a hmong song, haven't you notice that they don't hit all the notes? honey, just embrace the fact that YOU are Hmong AMERICAN too since you live in AMERICA.

  • It is called Hmong Idol, not Hmong-American Idol. Mind as well, go for American Idol then if you sing in English, but we all know there is little chance. Fyi everyone cannot sing a Hmong song haha check it out on youtube hiedevang

  • @hiedevang It's Hmong Idol. :)

  • hmong pp turn to retard by singing american song..

like usher-make love in the club wtf is tat..

sound like shitz in a donkey

  • This is so DUMB! Why call it HMONG IDOL when it's actually HMONG AMERICAN IDOL? How stupid can OGs be? PERIOD!! Hmongs supposed to sing HMONG! I'm sorry to offend anyone but really..isn't Hmong Idol searching for true HMONG SINGERS? Not HMONG AMERICAN singers? So she shouldn't have won because of her song choices. Just like American Idol, the choice of song matters too, so I don't know why these Hmong ppl can't see that.

  • where's this at??

  • St Paul I think?

  • fresno, ca

  • i think 209SUZIE is true..i think imma agree with her...

  • where are the guys??? NO GUY FINALISTS??? WTF!!!

  • hahaa u crack me up too!

  • aren't they a little bit FAT? or is it just me. We need to stop eating so much food, not just for our body fat but our health!!>..

GRow YOur Own Organic Vegies and EXCERCISE people

  • i couldn't get her name what was it?

  • Koungla Vang.

  • OMG, can't we freakin' hmong ppl just be happy for one another instead of putting eachother down all the time. She won because she had talent! So just be happy!

  • haha we're not putting anybody down here.

And we never said the winner wasn't talented. lol

of course she was, that's why she won!

The point is out of them three, who looks more decent? koungla.

second of all, does looks matter? yes it does. Not in the real entertainment but the Hmong entertainment. so once again, this is not about the winner. This is about looks playing a big role today.

  • @mcyang07 it's not putting each other down, it's about expressing your own opinion. :)

  • girl with the frizzy hair needs a new hairdo.

  • it's my natural hair.

    i love it

    thank you for your opinion.

    BE BLESSED!

    -nancy

  • i still dont agree with you cause look is not everything..

  • look is not everything but its got a lot to do with the entertainment industry. :D

  • hm.. i should apply to be a judge for this. i'll be like Simon and everyone will hate me, but i'll be the only one that's honest about the contestants' performance. based on what i'd seen, i say about 3 have a chance to pass on to the second round.

  • Yes, you should apply to be a judge if that's ever possible. lol

    btw i love Simon & wth. 3 only? i wonder who. :D

  • hmm ... GG ... :S

  • i disagree with mslo9313.beauty is not everything.even if she was dead gorgeous and doesnt have the voice for it.who will listen.like when you're listen to a song you dont think of the person that singing..you think about the song..how great the singer sang the song..in other case beauty does play the role but not singing!

  • True, if you don't have the voice. who would listen to you even if you are drop dead GORGEOUS! lols

But i gotta tell you, there are some people out there who will.

btw for example: Taylor Swift, she can't sing but can write good lyrics & because of her beauty. Here, her voice to her fans (customers) doesn't play a big role but her beauty does. :D

  • Comment removed

  • LOLS there you go, because she is beautiful & can write good lyrics about immature boys. other then that, she can't sing.. nopee.

  • believe me.. beauty and body figure has to do a lot with the entertainment industry. for example, if you saw a cd with a fat boy/girl on it... would you bother to pick it up and even look at it? or was the cover already out of your taste? be honest about it. you know that you wouldn't.

if you heard a song and didn't know who the artist was, but found out later... you'd probably say to yourself.. "i wish i didn't know what the artist looked like"

  • in regards to your last remark -- you'd STILL listen to the song.... so let's just leave it at that.

PLUS... "Hmong Idol" has nothing to do with the real entertainment industry. We just like to think that it is....

  • apparently.. you're not getting my point there... and neither is anyone else.. so let's leave it there. there is no more reason for me trying to explain to people who do not understand small things like this.. how else can it be explained? how many more examples do people need? lol. have a nice day. hopefully you all take a marketing class some day. so just in case you people are wondering.. i've taken my class already..

  • Of course i get your point... but you obviously don't get mine...

And..... a marketing class is NOT needed to realized that society judges EVERYTHING based on looks/physicality -- common sense is all you need. If you paid to learn that?! Then, my dear, you've been jipped. lol. YOU have a nice day.

  • True common sense is all you need.

So, once again. Look is not everything but it does play a big role in the entertainment industry.

-You walk into a Hmong store, you see a CD. A chubby girl is in front, will you even pick it up? Lol you wouldn't, maybe your mind wouldn't even come across it. Unless you know how the singer sound like.. the end.

  • if it's common sense.. then why are you still challenging me? you obviously need it since common sense isn't helping you too much. btw... you're contradicting yourself right now.. be sure to read your comment over. marketing class sure did pay off. i have some credibility here.. unlike you.

  • I'm not contradicting myself because I was just looking at the big picture. Looks can get you far... as well as TALENT. Of course you wouldn't know that because you're too busy looking at the CD covers.

& Fool... don't try to get allllll crazy about your marketing "credibility"..... you crack me up -- you DON'T know me... I'm not the type to go around flaunting my "credibility" - unlike some people. LMAO foreverrrrr.......

  • So your saying, you don't bother looking at the CD cover before picking it up or buying it? LOL

    LIES!

  • You're kind of putting words in my mouth.... but you can believe me or not, I'm not the type to judge based on looks just because society wants me to.

  • Lol

    get real.

  • "Lol"

    YOU get real.

  • not the type to judge based on looks? wat a liar. ha!

    now get real ahleeX. pleaseee

  • what you like may not be what i like, obviously.... what are you trying to get out of this? For me to admit that i'm a SHALLOW person? NO, i'm not.

  • Lols

    get real.

  • thank god i don't know you... and thank god you don't know me... because i don't care. lol. you go ahead and think what you want.. it's not going to change my opinion on anything.

  • haha YES Hmong idol does have to do with the REAL entertainment. It's the "Hmong Entertainment,"

    lol

  • go kuangla go!! yay!!!

  • okay.. i've been reading some comments down there debating about whether beauty and looks play a role in the entertainment industry... YES. it does. they've already mentioned this.. but i'll say it again anyways.. beauty and body figure has everything to do with making it big in the industry.. why? because if there isn't something appealing about a singer or an actress.. customers will not bother to look, buy, or listen to something. that's just how customers are.... take a marketing class!

  • wow...annxiong...jerryhers...and nkaujmissy...how did you guys start with this whole beauty and vocal issues ?? haha ur postings r CRAZY! haha and hard to follow...hmmm... :)

  • lol

    read and follow through shafeevang.

i see one point that Ann is making here & im just trying to convince jerryhers that she is right. but he seems to be in his own world. Once again, beauty does play a role in today's society. Like mslo9313 said," if there isnt something appealing about the singer or actress. customers will not look, buy or listen."

Out of them 3, who looks more decent?

That will be Koungla. but again, them 3 was off the hook but there can only be 1 winner.

  • Lols i do agree with ann x. Looks do matter, not just the music industry but all, im not saying koungla wasnt amazing nor am i calling anybody ugly But look around us, looks buys it all. Its true.lol

  • CONGRATS koungla. and yes, anie's right. this is Koungla's time to shine. it was an overwhelming experience. one that will be truly cherished. everything happens for a reason, and God has perfect timing : ]

  • lmfao. john are you friends with that dude who sang mariahs song?? Cause if i can recall, you wrote something similar to it on that vid comment sec. saying he was good material for hitting that note. Just because somebody hit a high note Once doesnt mean their idol material sweety. Yes yes thats your opinion and i highly respect that. Dont come challenging me. ;] BBIGG fan of nancy

  • looks like somebody is pissed here. Haha This is why i love youtube. Lol

  • anybody know what the winner get?

or do they just get the name "hmong idol"

    like "miss hmong california"?

but it's great to see that hmong are doing this too!

  • they won 500 and a contract with wise guys entertainment and bragging rights haha

  • oooo wise guys entertainment huh?

btw do you know who hosted it?

    just curious

  • CSU Hmong Club? i think.

  • CSU Fresno HmSA

  • FRESNO's STATE HMSA,

  • k thanks

  • I think next year's Hmong Idol is gonna be huge, there was about 800+ people there that night. I can see Annie and Nancy winning future Hmong Idol contests. Best of wishes to all the singers, they were great.

  • My girls, you guys were great! i'm glad to have had an opportunity to sing alongside you 3...Being in the top 8 with you girls was truly a blessing and a blast, although the stress of everyone's wonderful voice got the best of us all...it was fun and i wish you all the best of luck! Take care and god bless...

    -kristine-

  • I think the judges did a great job, they picked the exact same final 3 I did. Annie and Nancy did a great job, but it was Koungla Vang's night. She was just amazing, she didn't need to hit high notes. You don't need to, you just have to be able to sing in your range, and be great. Best wishes to all the contestants.

  • Johncantyblue you are so hard to please! Lol

Stop mentioning about shafee vang, we all know he sang very well. But again there can only be one winner. So sorry no one sounded like mariah carey & leona lewis. Lol

  • haha i commend you on this comment you didn't take it too hard like everyone else i think i've officially made " youtube haters " haha but they dont see that the contestants commented me back thanking me that i was honest...and if anything...i've set a wall for them to climb...so some of them DO wanna try the things i wrote on my comments...and who knows they'll be able to hit notes...and be even better...it's called collective criticism...in which many dont see what i'm doing...it's a shame...

  • i wonder does ne one has the part when the 3 girls dance

  • and gawd the rest of you, suck it up. anne could use a bit more practice, maybe if she got some voice lessons she would have won, but she still sounds like she needs more time to mature in her voice.

  • guys, this was definitely not a competition all about winning. i got a lot of satisfaction from just performing. congrats to koungla :) i'm very happy for you :) this was a great experience too. maybe it's just not my time to win yet :)

  • oh annie u did good tho..

    GREAT JOB.

  • yayyy koungla! i personally think she deserves it cause i've checked out the others and it didn't cut it for me.

  • dude...there was nothing special about her...i didn't hear any HIGH NOTES...or WHISTLES from this chick...she just sounded like ANY OTHER CHICK SINGING...actually...ALL OF THE GIRLS WERE JUST SAFE...TOTALLY NOT HMONG IDOL MATERIAL...JUS SOUNDS LIKE SOME CHICK SINGING...

You know who did good...and should've moved on?...ShaFee Vang did good with his "love takes time" rendition on the second round...he hit that Mariah Carey High Note and that TO ME...was Idol Material...VERY GOOD LIVE PERFORMANCE

  • dude DONT HATE!

  • the winner also did HMONG ICON a few years ago.... great job!

  • woot woot koungla...keep up the good job girl...

  • Great singer, didn't have a doubt that she would win. This win was because she was truly talented & did manage to stand out amongst the others. :) Congratulations!!!!

  • dude...she didn't even stand out ??...you wouldn't even know who she was backstage..she just sounds like any other chick...she sounded like the chick who did dawb lis song...and she sounded like the emotional singer (as they called her on youtube) ...nothing special...just sounds like any other chick singing...ShaFee Vang was good being able to hit that Mariah Carey High Note...the winner should've been able to do that!

  • ShaFee Vang? That one guy? Don't get me wrong, he sang well & he did hit that high note, but the whole performance shouldn't be decided one little thing, you don't know, but perhaps Koungla could hit those notes, I maybe others that were there, but they chose other songs.

There were a lot of good singers & she one fair & square, not because of looks or anything else other than what was necessary

She didn't sound like any other chick, she was awesome & has a gift. I hope to hear her recordings.

  • i agree hugely with you on some major parts, but dude/girl...big factors 1) sex appeal 2) beauty and overall appeal 3) age. i'm not putting myself and nancy down, but compared to koungla, we didn't exactly hit those appeal marks. i wasn't old enough and some ppl even told me i wasn't as pretty as koungla. i don't know about nancy, but this was based a lot on those factors. but to be fair, koungla was fabulous.

  • agreed and nicely said.

  • Wished you didn't write this, makes you look like a vvveeeerrrrryy bad sport. Trust me, it was not rigged. You did a great job, and so did everyone else. Honestly think you are a future Hmong Idol, but you need to stop making excuses. It was Koungla's night, no one likes sour grapes.

  • okay i really don't think you understand fully. do you realize that it's called the music industry? do you see many ppl in the music industry who are ugly, fat or both? please don't give me crap about being a bad sport. koungla was fabulous and i'm not denying that, but the point is that it wasn't only because of her singing that got her 1st place. everyone knows well that she was pretty and overall more appealing to the general audience. i never said i was going to be future hmong idol.

  • I do realize its called the music industry, and thats what this contest was... a music contest. It wasn't a beauty pageant, that had nothing to do with it, It wasn't a part of the judging criteria, nor did the judges put that into consideration. I, meaning me, I think that you will be a future Hmong Idol winner. That is what I meant, wrote that on another video also. To degrade the judges there on nothing but your speculations makes the competition lose its merit. Keep it about the music.

  • how do you know they didn't take appeal and beauty into consideration? okay, think of this. carrie underwood won american idol. she's talented and absolutely gorgeous. album sales=oh my god...so many. taylor hicks won american idol and he's an okay looking guy. album sales= wait, where did he go? what happened to him? ya see the point?

  • not enough for ya? ruben won american idol. not degrading him or anything, but he's on the chunky side. album sales compared to carrie= not even close. carrie has been certified platinum like 5x.

  • Not arguing about mainstream music, I'm talking about Hmong Idol. Your making it out as though the judges had some other agenda besides music. I know, I helped set up Hmong Idol. Please do not degrade the judges by saying such things, I'm sure they won't appreciate it. You made to into the finals for one reason and one reason only, your voice. Same goes for Koungla and Nancy. You are taking a lot away from Koungla, the process & everyone else with your comments about conspiracy judging criteria.

  • mainstream music is not the point. i'm not trying to degrade the judges, the contestants, koungla, whoever. i don't think i can keep explaining anymore. i'm really not trying to come off rude. i'm just trying to understand this logically. you make it sound as if everything was purely and solely based on the voice. there are SO many things to take in to consideration. maybe the judges weren't judging in the beauty area, but that's what i concluded. maybe it's right, it's wrong.

  • I can tell you, your wrong. Maybe your not trying to take anything away from everyone, but with comments like yours you are. You are coming off as a very poor sport, who for some reason can not come to grips with the fact that you didn't win. Instead of tipping your hat and continuing to excel at your art, you're making excuses for yourself. You've turned an honest musical competition into a competition about aesthetics. And that is not logical no matter how much you tell yourself that it does.

  • i don't know. but you cannot say that the judges did judge based solely on the voice. you weren't judging with them. just wanted to get that across. of course, i'm not saying i'm right either. it's just i've competed in so many competitions like this and from what i've gathered through all these years of competing, a lot is based on looks, appeal, and age. that's all i'm trying to say. your only defense is that i'm degrading everyone and that the judges are just judging based on the voices.

  • You listed sex appeal as number 1, beauty & overall appeal as number 2, & age as number 3. Where does voice, song selection, originality, rhythm & tone come in? Its sad to hear that you may have experienced biased judging in the past, but please keep your conspiracy theories with them. There was no shady backstage dealings going on. Keep your head up, the world isn't as bad of a place as you think. You wouldn't have liked it if you had won & another competitor said you won for other reasons.

  • the world is an uglier place than you're telling me. but then again, we do live our own lives. some of us just experience the more ugly side of the world.

  • okay. here i think this'll sum it up for you. being pretty, photogenic, and appealing was a plus factor that helped her win. she won cause she had a good voice and she was overall more appealing. that's all i'm trying to say. i think you think that i thought that koungla only won cause she's pretty. well, that's not what i thought. now that we have that cleared, shall we get this "argument" over with?

  • i may be young, but i'm not naive. as a speculator and competitor, i know that music is not the only thing they take into consideration. btw, if you still think i'm degrading everyone, koungla, nancy, cha, shafee, michael, everyone did fabulous. the judges did their job. hmsa did a great job setting up the event and obviously it was a sucess.

  • I agreed with you Ann.

Ruben didn't hit big. Taylor hicks didn't hit big either but Carrie Underwood did and.. well in the "American" music industry. you have to look super hott. Carrie Underwood actually lost weight, just to look good for her fans. you got looks, you got money. lol

  • can i say something? lol

Thank god, it wasn't a beauty pageant! lol

anyways Ann's point is, looks do matter and it plays a big role in today's society especially in the music industry if your in it.

  • Beauty does play a role in society, but you guys are making it out as though it was the deciding factor in a sing competition. Here's a fact you have to accept, there are good honest people out there besides yourselves. I believe that the judges were fair, and that the right person won. My glass is half full, whats yours?

  • yes huh. lol beauty does play a big role in today's society! where have u been? lol

anyways, im not referring this to the Hmong idol but im saying in general. and i never said the wrong person won. koungla was amazing! get my point?

  • yep. koungla was amazing.

  • haha. so you are admitting it was part of the judging? and dude. just chill out. when did i ever say that everyone else is bad and shady? did i ever accuse of any shady stuff going on behind the scenes? no. like i said, god how many times do i have to say this? it's great koungla won. she's amazing, but do you realize that overall she's just more appealing and prettier and shall i put it this way, photogenic too? she also won cause she has a good voice. do you see? i'm not degrading anyone.

  • exactly nkaujmissy! you do grasp the concept. jerryhers is trying to shove things down my throat and say that looks do not matter whatsoever period. that it has absolutely nothing to do with winning competitions or awards or getting success.

  • Not saying that they don't, just saying its not as big as your making it out to be. You said that they were "big factors," as though it were listed on the scorecard. Maybe HmSA will have to find blind judges for next year, haha. Hats off to Koungla, Nancy and you too Annie. Hope to see you again next year. Don't let what you think happened stop you from perusing your musical career.

  • you're just like every motherfucker on here... "omg omg omg...she's soo good..she's sooo good"....FUCKEN FOLLOWER! no brains of your own...cant stand out for shit!

  • Dang someone here is a diva, chill out. And STOP YELLING!!!!! My internet ears are hurting. Wow, you honestly think you're doing everyone a service by complaining and telling people who you thought sung like Mariah Carey, haha. Again, its not constructive criticism when you don't give pointers, sing like Mariah Carey is not a tip. Youtube did give us the option to comment people, they also gave us the option to comment comments. I love the Freedom of speech.

  • Comment removed

  • does anyone have a clip of what Kongla sang???? no one has anything of her her! and she's the Hmong Idol Winner!?!?!

  • nobody has anything of her bcuz she just sounded like half the chick there who weren't even able to show a difference in their singing...i wanted to hear some Leona Lewis or Mariah Carey high notes...but instead...i got some average chick singers who all sounded the same...that's not an Idol...the one IMO who DID do good...not on his first song...but second song...was ShaFee Vang...because he was able to hit that Mariah Carey High Note and those other chicks couldn't even do it!...

  • hey douchebag, since you praise shafee so much, why don't you go and suck his wee wee.

the judges got to choose the winner, not you. so stop crying about this and get a life.

  • LISTEN WHORE ! i think you're pretty stupid to get getting mad about this comment thing...hmmm...this is WHY they allow us to comment on these things...so that they can get criticism from everyones' perspectives...why they hell would we wanna just congratulate everyone...you guys must be pretty stupid to just be going around and saying " omg...omg...ur so good ur so good..."you FUCK-TARDS ! FUCK OFF MY COMMENTS BITCH ! FUCK YOU AND SUCK A DICK AND DIE IN HELL BITCH ! FUCK YOU ! DONT COMMENT BACK

  • you're such a FUCKEN RETARD BITCH! ever heard of FUCKEN COLLECTIVE CRITICISM ?? the contestants already commented me back thanking me for my honesty and that i've set a new goal for them now only bitches like you think i'm hating hoe! go suck your daddys lollipop,,,no wonder u brought up sucking wee wees dirty hoe!

  • LOL OMG. this is obviously someone who hasn't grown up. It's not "collective cristicism", it's "constructive cristicism".

you're a joke. and yes, i love my daddy's lollipop. it tastes like watermelon. :)

  • congrats to kongala from Merced whoo whoo

  • MANE!

    Zuag shouldve won.

    but..she already has an

    album:(

  • if she already has an album why did she even performed

  • She was a special guest performer, not a contestant.

  • whoooooo! congrats to Koungla!!! whoooo!...

  • i personally think Anne should of won because she was the only singer to complete the final song without messing up. paula was probably one of the best singer at the competition and did a great job but she forgot her line and had a 2sec pause. as professional competition would of go, she would of automatically lost for forgetting her lyric. nancy sound like she was mumbling the whole time so was an automatically no no. overall this competition should of go to anne for giving the best performance

  • everybody who was there can tell who was the real winner (not saying this because of favoritism). a major factor (my opinion) why Paula won would have to be her age (20-22) compare to Anne (13) and Nancy (18) and also because she was the best looking among them. beauty play a huge part in any competition that would won a sponsorship for an album (anything). in my honest opinion, i believe favoritism (personal preference) plays a huge part in choosing the winner. Good Luck to all the competitor.

  • aww my name is koungla not paula..and im only 18..not 20 =(

  • hahaha sorry on my part.. was on the back during the event and couldn't hear the name well so it sounded like paula to me.. and didn't found out till after i post that other calling you koungla.. nice and unique name. btw grats on winning.. and did you take up that sponsorship? if you do, hoping to hear some good music from you and don't forget your lyric this time :p. best of luck to you.
