I actually had someone try to convince me that a Gibson is better than a Blackmachine because its more versatile. Of course, that person had never played a BM before LOL. The BM is definitely one of the most versatile guitars I own (and I have a Gibson too hehe). Its got such a beautiful, well rounded, sweet tone - even dry - that it'd be a shame NOT to play all types of music with it ;)
@CliveJevons Plus all Gibsons, save fr the SG, have all that unnecessary bulk on them. Most of them don't even resonate that well with all that bulk. Plus LPs all have this strange detatched feeling between the body and the strings which I can't really explain, but feel every time I play one. And I have played both a Gibson and a Blackmachine. Fanboys; what are we going to do with them, eh?
@musicman9901 in this video it was loaded with Häussel custom pickups as specced by Doug from Blackmachine. At the moment, though, I've got some Kent Armstrong custom pickups in there which were specced by Patrick Hufschmid.
@CliveJevons okay cool thanks, why the switch? I contacted Hufschmid yesterday about pickups but he said he no longer makes custom pickups as of the start of this year.. I'm building an 8 string and already plan to put in a Lundgren m8 but am looking for something a bit more versatile in the neck that has some bite but can handle more and so far the only pickup Ive found other than the m8 is the Bareknuckle Aftermath .
@musicman9901 Patrick never made them himself - they're made by Kent Armstrong, who continues to build and sell pickups ;) Patrick, however, specified the tone for the ones he sold in his guitars. Its possible Kent could do you something similar / the same.
The Lundgren's were very well made, but not to my taste.
The Häussels are amazing pickups, but not quite hot enough for Metal, which is why I switched to the Kent Armstrong pickups.
Haven't tried Bareknuckles yet. Heard good things though.
@MrGuitarcovers10 :D I do some of that too ;) But my aim is to work on walking bass lines underneath reduced chords as far as my Jazz playing on 8 string guitars is concerned - I'm still WORLDS away from achieving that, though, hehe
@CliveJevons Same heare, really cool to hear something different from the chugga chugga. Have you though considered having them repainted to reflect a bit more of your music than that goth black? A car repairshop will respray your guitar really cheap if you sand it down first. Anyways, I like your playing and I think Ill be watching. Try to play "bring back that leroy brown" by Queen off of Sheer heart attack, that'd be really cool.
@merqury5 the guitar in the video is made by a chap called Doug in London, UK under the name BlackMachine - very cool dude, and makes beautiful guitars! :)
I've also got a custom Hufschmid 8 string guitar by a chap called Patrick from Switzerland. Also a very cool dude - there are some vids up with that guitar on my channel also :)
@yitboy11 I really lucked out on that one - got it second hand in our local music store :D There's a few around here, though, as I live near where Diezel started out ;) \m/ \m/ Love it to bits!!
@CliveJevons Yeah i am currently studying abroad here in Germany, i had the chance to play one of those blue VH4s. I would love to get one but goodness gracious are they expensive, well keep rocking man
@yitboy11 Over here they're no more expensive than a Mesa Boogie ... not that they're cheap like LOL But yeah, its a fair amount of dough :( Keep your eyes peeled on Ebay though - you can pick 'em up 2nd hand at a reasonable rate sometimes :D
Have fun over here and hope you're enjoying the beer hehe \m/
wow your purdy good........ but my question is how did you get the mic to go with your garageband? cause i've been trying and nothing is working.kinda new to both... P.S. i have a imac?
@youngtribett It was plug 'n play for me. I started up GB, plugged in the mic, then got a pop up asking me if I wanted to use it, to which I replied yes ... done.
When its plugged in, you should also see it in the list of input devices in the System Preferences. Maybe it isn't being selected as the default input device in your case? Have a look in there. You can also set the input gain correctly in there.
hey there man, its me, azombiestool again, the guy talking you about the tool covers lol. well anyways, you should also make a video of you showing how you record your you amp, like mic it lol.
as afar as like any preamps, interfaces, or software you use.
I'm more than glad to share what little experience I have with recording :) Next vid, I'll do a quick run-down of how I'm currently doing it after the content :D Be warned, though, that I've still got a ton to learn about the intricacies of recording LOL
Getting quite happy with the latest results, though ;)
well man, you probably know more than me, ibe been looking into recording my stuff because i get some bad ratings really just because of the audio in my videos, as far as my guitars and what not. it would sound alot better if it were just a sound clip ya know? thanks though man! :D
Quite easy - you can compare any two things lol :))) Obviously the BM is WAAAAYYYY better - but if you compare them relatively (i.e. take the price difference into consideration), then the Ibby isn't actually that bad a guitar - I'll go out on a limb here and say its actually really good :D
hey!! great to see you posting again! lately no one seems to be posting anything! Question: I love how your videos sound, how do you do that? Im using a shitty webcam and I have to adjust everything in order to get a half way decent audio out of it, but yours are crystal clear. Anyways, great vid. Keep em commin. You rock.
In this vid I'm recording the audio via a Samson USB mic straight into my old PowerBook using GarageBand ... then videoing myself at the same time. Afterwards I import the video and mixed audio to iMove and replace the original vid audio with the recorded stuff. To make synching easier I clap loud ones before the playing starts - then match up the audio spikes in iMovie. Not perfect, but seems to work well enough lol ;)
Currently I've got Lundgren M8's in there - but I've put in an order for some Häussel pups - the Lundgren's cut out out too many mids for my liking ... apparently the Häussel's are similar to the DiMarzio Evo7s - which I have in my K7 and LOVE \m/ ;)
Thanks :D First time trying out that mic - got it on loan so I can decide if I want to buy it or not ... haven't been 100% convinced yet, though - I might end up going with a conventional dynamic mic ... like the Sennheiser e606 ... we'll see ;)
I'll be playing around more with this whole synching audio to video thing - next up will be some heavy riffage ;) \m/ Just have to figure out how to switch between various video takes and keep the whole thing synched now ... hrm.
... its by three ppl by the names Rose, Harburg and Arlen (if I've interpreted the scrawl at the top of the lead sheet from the Real Book correctly ;))).
So cool that you show that a Blackmachine can do things other than chugga chugga stuff.

what guitar is that besides that its an 8 string
dimadoodle 3 years ago
Its a Blackmachine '8'. I'll be doing a vid segment comparing that and the Ibanez RG 2228 soon, which'll have all the details ;) \m/
Briefly, though: swamp ash body, rosewood neck with ebony fillet inlays, ebony top, fingerboard and matching headstock. 24 frets. Fixed bridge. Lundgren M8 pups. Iveroid binding on body and neck.
There's more at the web site blackmachine with a dot and a net added.
